Forget the dating rumors. Forgot that gross Twitter feud with Karrueche Tran. For better or for worse, it seems like the Rihanna and Chris Brown collabos released last month were a purely business decision. “I reached out to him about doing “Birthday Cake” because that’s the only person that really — it made sense to do the record,” RiRi explained on Ryan Seacrest‘s KIIS FM show this morning. “Just as a musician — despite everything else — that was going to be the person.” Okay, but why couldn’t Drake have been the person, RiRi? Or Nicki Minaj? What about J. Cole? What about Rick Ross even? You know that man loves cake more than any of us do! And we mean every single kind of cake there is!
That being said, it sounds like Rihanna wanted her track to blow up, and there was only one man who could provide the necessary heat. “I thought about rappers, and I’ve done that so many times, and the hottest R&B artist out right now is Chris Brown. So I wanted him on the track,” the singer explained. Said RiRi, “We did two records — one for my fans, one for his fans — and that way our fans can come together. There shouldn’t be a divide, you know? It’s music and it’s innocent.” Innocent…and extremely profitable! So why do we feel even grosser about the whole thing now?
Taylor Swift and Zac Efron may or may not be teaming up in real life, but they did hit all the right notes on Ellen today when they busted out a little duet action. “I taught him how to play guitar,” enthused Taylor. “He’s really good at it for one lesson.” Hmm, so maybe that’s why these two were spotted out together last month. People practice their chord progressions over a romantic candle-lit meal, right?
After Swift squees over Zac’s first note, host Ellen DeGeneres cracks, “Only a girlfriend would react that quickly like that.” Ah, but if you pay close attention to their version of Foster The People‘s “Pumped Up Kicks,” Ms. DeGeneres, you’ll find you might be mistaken. Or not? It’s hard to tell. “It gets kind of weird, calling us out like we’re boyfriend and girlfriend/But it’s not, ’cause we’re just sitting here,” Efron belts. Who knew Zac Efron was such a great vocalist? A great lyricist…not so much. Either way, we hope these two duet more often. Get it? “Do it”? Because they’re dating? At least according to Ellen?
Boys II Bieber? No, wait…Bieber II Men? Whatever you want to call it (probably not either of those options), the Justin Bieber Boys II Men collabo for the upcoming Justin Bieber Christmas album will have something for the whole family to love. No, literally the whole family: kids will love Justin, while moms will love Boys II Men, who were basically an early nineties collection of super Biebers. Oh, how cruel the passage of time.
“2day i woke up and realized that the group that made me want to sing @BoyzIIMen are now on the christmas album singing with me. #DREAMBIG,” Bieber tweeted. “I used 2 listen to their music and practice the runs. that is how i learned how to sing. now im in the studio with them making music 2gether.” And if they can get a Boys II Men Bieber Christmas wedding song on that album? Game. Over. How about “On Santa’s Bended Knee?,” or “I’ll Make Gingerbread Houses To You”? You’re right. We won’t quit our day jobs.
First he was DJing for Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale tour, now a Pauly D and 50 Cent album is on the way. Man, seeing a Jersey Shore cast member go legit is going to make Ronnie‘s Xenadrine commercials even more heart-breaking to watch. “I’m focusing on music. That’s my passion. I’m working with 50 Cent now,” DJ Pauly told Billboard after the VMAs. “I’m gonna do an album with him.” This collabo makes a lot of sense to us; we bet Fiddy’s been down the Jersey Turnpike more times than the NJTA.
Pauly discussed his upcoming album with 50 Cent earlier this month in XXL Magazine, confirming that duo will soon be helping America celebrate each day as if it was our nation’s birthday. “It’s going to be a little bit of everything,” Pauly says. “It’s almost like DJ Khaled and kind of David Guetta but my own DJ Pauly D style.” The only downside, of course, is how many arms will spontaneously snap due to too much fist-pumping.
Because sometimes the universe is kind and responds to our deepest wants and desires, a Lady Gaga Cher duet is on the horizon. “Can’t wait till GaGa puts her Voice on ” The Greatest Thing ” SHE WILL ROCK IT SO FKNG HARD !,” Cher’s Twitter read last night. The song “The Greatest Thing” is slated to appear on the Burlesque star’s upcoming album, as well as an album we’re putting together called Now That’s What We Call Appropriately-Named Music!
It makes sense that the song was destined to feature both divas, seeing as how Lady Gaga and RedOne gave it to Cher to record in the first place. It seems almost trite to assume that this song will be a gay club hit, but then again is a trite to assumed that air would make an excellent thing to breathe?
Lil Wayne’s new album Tha Charter IVis due out August 22, but that Lil Wayne Justin Bieber collabo you’ve been dreaming about won’t be on it. “That’s my little homie now,” Wayne says about Bieber. “He texts me every night asking me to do [his] damn song. That’s my n—-, but I can’t do it.” It turns out, however, that Wayne didn’t turn down the partnership because makes no musical sense; no, it’s because Wayne doesn’t want to ruin Bieber’s nice guy image. “Like I said, I don’t want to f— his s— up,” Wayne tells XXL Mag. We’re pretty sure Bieber will be okay either way; he’s already working with Usher, Ludacris, Lil Wayne once Justin goes all Eminem after he finishes puberty…
Every though Bieber is out, there are plenty of pretty boy singer’s Wayne is dying to work with. “But like I said, I want to work with Justin Timberlake,” he explains.”That boy got a voice; that boy can sing. He needs to come back right there on Tha Carter IV.” Please, please let this kick off some Timberlake-Bieber beef. The sweetest, most polite beef, but beef nonetheless.
There’s nothing like blasting the hottest jam of the summer while driving in your car, windows down, hair blowing in the wind, the crazed voice of a former Two And A Half Men star screaming over a sick dance beat. Hope that’s exactly how you envisioned your summer, because Billboard confirms the Charlie Sheen and Snoop Dogg single the actor tweeted about last Friday is happening. “Warlock meets his makers-music makers that is @SnoopDogg @robpatterson666 get ready to rock the Sheenius within!,” Charlie tweeted about the collobo. We are always ready to rock out with our Sheenius out, and it looks like we might just get our chance.
Produced by Filter’s Rob Patterson, it seems likely that the pair would want to have their masterpiece finished by the time Sheen’s comedy tour kicks off Saturday in Detroit. Meanwhile Charlie has been hyping Snoop’s new album Doggumentary, which dropped yesterday, to his fans. “Mark this: Snoop dropped tha new album #doggumentary… EPIC My head is on fire…literally Buy it! ybw http://bit.ly/doggumentaryalbum ,” the warlock king tweeted. Snoop Dogg gave Katy Perry‘s “California Girls” the boost it needed to kill it last summer; maybe a skull consumed in flames will be the new breast-mounted whip-cream bazooka. Though if we had to assumed, Charlie probably fit a few of those into his tour budget anyway.
The music you jam out to and the music you cry into your high school yearbook to might be all on the same album if Taylor Swift’s dream of collaborating with Jay-Zcomes true. Swift gushed to Ladies Home Journal,”Our genres are completely different, but there could be something cool about that.” Man, when did Ladies Home Journal get so hip? Hmm, we don’t know if that idea is going to fly. Jay-Z doesn’t seem like the type to go in for syrupy country ballads. Then again, chances are if wife Beyonce sees Taylor’s doe eyes fill with tears, she’ll rush in and fix everything.
Swift’s other goal? “Seeing my album in Starbucks …. I go there every day and stare longingly at the CDs they sell.” Hey! Our goal is to be able to afford one of those albums at Starbucks! Who knew us and Taylor were so alike? We, of course, hope girlfriend gets everything she’s ever dreamed of. Us? We’re going to see if we have enough change buried in the couch cushions to get a subscription to Ladies Home. [Photo: Getty/Stephen Mao]
Time to start squeeing, ladies (and many gents)! Get yourselves (and your libidos) ready for this one. New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys are going on tour – TOGETHER. It’s like our old teenage self is going into hormonal overdrive. Can’t. Breathe. Apparently, we have to thank Live Nation Entertainment for this boyband extravganza-bonanza, although they’re staying silent on this alleged hormone implosion for now. Yet insiders reckon that this glorious union might make it onstage by March 2011.
A source revealed, “The idea is to recreate the boy band phenomenon. It will be the ultimate ladies’ night out.” What do you mean “recreate” the boy band phenomenon? In our minds, it never went away! How AWESOME was it when the Backstreet Boys sang with the New Kids on “I Want It That Way”?
And there’s even BETTER news. The buzz is that they’re looking for a third boy band to join, and Boyz II Men might just be the ones. Can you handle it? CAN YOU HANDLE IT? Umm, clearly, we can’t.
