In the weeks we’ve spent since Heavy D‘s death trying to figure out what to do with this love we found, the L.A. County Coroner’s Office has figured out that the rapper’s exact cause of death was natural causes. TMZ reports that the larger-than-life rapper, born Dwight Myers, died in early November of a pulmonary embolism caused by deep leg vein thrombosis, a condition in which blood clots form in the leg and travel to other parts of the body, sometimes fatally.
Deep leg vein thrombosis can occur after periods of inactivity, such as long plane flights, causing some to speculate if the condition was brought on by Heavy D‘s return flight from the U.K. following his performance at the Michael Jackson tribute concert in October. However, officials also reveal that the rapper suffered from heart disease, which was likely a factor in his demise. Either way, we suggest that you gather up your boyz, slip into your matching neon rain suits and hit the alley to dance out how depressed this news makes you feel. We’ll see you there; we’ll be ones in the leather newsboy caps.

Serious bling aficionados didn’t factor in one very important element into acquiring the late Elizabeth Taylor‘s jewelry at an auction at Christie’s in New York City — Kim Kardashian. TMZ reports that the hybrid-reality star has dropped $65,000 for three jade and diamond Lorraine Schwartz bracelets that belonged to that star. That is pocket change as compared to what the record-breaking auction cashed in on the whole. They made an incredible $116 MILLION. Kim was seriously in awe of Dame Liz and even interviewed her for Harper’s Bazaar shortly before she passed away. Interestingly enough, the first question Kimmy asked her was, “You are my idol. But I’m six husbands and some big jewels behind. What should I do?” In a few short months, Kim’s made progress on both fronts, so she’s well on her way.

Kanye West: He’s just saying what we’re all thinking … unfortunately. Sure, everyone has grandiose daydreams about how much the planet will miss them when they go, but most of us have the common sense not to say them out loud. Kanye, on the other hand, has yet another beautiful, dark, twisted fantasy he’d like to share, this time involving all the political heavyweights that will bawl their eyes out when he passes. “I was just thinking about my funeral and stuff a couple days ago and thinking who would be at the funeral,” the rapper said in an interview given for fan site VOYR. Kanye, stop there! Stop while you’re ahead/not coming off like a complete narcissist!
But West continued, “People who I want to be in the funeral. I wanna have world leaders that were, like, affected, that said, you know, ‘Kanye gave me my shot here.’ Or, ‘He pushed me,’ or, ‘He told me to believe in myself,’ or, ‘When I saw this, it made me feel like that.’ I wanna affect people like that when I, like, pass away.” So, which world leaders need Kanye to give them a shot? Do we have a total misunderstanding of global politics? Are we to believe that if Kanye West just went into Israel and Palestine and grabbed the mics out of everybody’s hand, we could have peace in the Middle East? Kanye is the greatest statesman of all time! Of all time!

Amy Winehouse’s death was a devastating event for those who knew her solely through her music; we can only imagine how hard it must have been for those close to her in life. In an interview with Britain’s Mirror, Winehouse’s boyfriend Reg Traviss discusses her sobriety, which prior to her death had Amy Winehouse‘s friends and family hopeful that the singer was well on the road to recovery. “It’s been foggy, very foggy … very tough. I have started getting back to work and keeping busy, but it’s difficult,” film director Traviss tearfully explained. “You start thinking about it, you get down — it brings you down. Amy had turned a corner, that is the tragedy.
After Amy Winehouse’s toxicology report allegedly turned up alcohol but no illegal drugs back in August, a further inquest was scheduled to start this week into the factors around her passing.
Not that we didn’t already know this, but Lil Wayne is owning up to having a sizzurp addiction, which he apparently kicked last year, TMZ reports. The rapper’s confessing his problem in a documentary-style video, specifically speaking about how he used to tank up on sizzurp — which is a codeine based cough syrup — as he got more and more famous, to cope with the pressure. He got hooked initially as a kid because Pimp C, who died of an accidental overdose from the drink in 2007, used to rap about it. Pimp C was also one of Weezy‘s idols. Of quitting his habit, Wayne’s saying, “I’m not sick anymore.” We’re glad he stopped but we’re even more glad that he’s talking about it.
We’re wearing our sweaters and Buddy Holly glasses in mourning today as we report the news that former Weezer bassist Mikey Welsh is has passed away at the age of 40. His body was found yesterday morning in a Chicago hotel room, and although no cause of death has been determined, police suspect it was a drug over dose. Making a tragic case even sadder, the musician publicly predicted his own death in a September 26th Twitter post. “Dreamt i died in chicago next weekend (heart attack in my sleep),” he wrote. “Need to write my will today.” Then Welsh quickly added: “correction – the weekend after next.”
It would be hard to overstate how much Apple co-founder Steve Jobs transformed our lives, from getting a mouse into our hands to introducing the touch screen, from how we listen to music to how we talk face-to-face on our mobile phones. In the end, Jobs definitely delivered on his “Think Different” advertising slogan. So it’s not surprising that celebs from every walk of life took to Twitter and Facebook like the rest of us to share their condolences upon hearing that he lost his battle to cancer at the age of 56. R.I.P. Steve.

We’re very sad to report that Cliff Robertson died on Saturday at the age of 88 just a day after his birthday. We knew him as the beloved Uncle Ben in Spiderman but his career spanned over six decades! He also won the Oscar for Best Actor in 1968 for his role in the film Charly. Cliff passed away in New York State of natural causes. We’re sending out our deepest condolences to his family and friends.

A couple years ago, Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse had more in common than just amazing pipes; they also both hit the nightlife. Hard. “I’ve had nights out with Amy and know exactly what used to go on. It’s so easy to get caught up in that madness,” Allen told British magazine Evening Standard this week, discussing Amy Winehouse’s death less than two months after the singer’s passing. “I could totally see why she didn’t want to leave her house. It seemed more appealing to stay in and take heroin. Why would anyone want that chaos in their life? It’s not something anyone chooses.” Personally, we maaaaaybe wouldn’t have tried to rationalize heroin use while talking about a friend’s death, but hey, it wouldn’t be a Lily Allen interview without some cringing. It’s like we’re in 2008 all over again.
While the singer’s family alleges that Amy Winehouse’s toxicology report indicated that there were no illegal drugs in her system when she passed on, Lily Allen seems certain she too could have fallen victim to a self-destructive lifestyle. “Actually, when Amy died, I got several texts from friends saying they were really glad I was still here. That I hadn’t died, too. It’s so easy to get caught up in that madness and I count my lucky stars I’ve been strong enough to walk away.” Not strong enough not to somehow make the conversation about herself, but certain on the way there.
