More than 13 years after the unsolved shooting death of The Notorious B.I.G., CNN reports that new leads concerning Christopher Wallace‘s murder have “reinvigorated” the case. While no other details were given, it is believed that the FBI, LAPD and LA District Attorney’s Office have been investigating the new information for months. Could this leak be a warm-up for an arrest?
According to TMZ, Wallace’s family is “greatly pleased with any advancement” in the search for his killer, but will make sure not to “interfere” with the investigation. Mother Voletta Wallace‘s wrongful death suit against the LAPD—she believed corrupt police officers working for Death Row Records mogul Suge Knight were responsible for her son’s murder—was dismissed by a judge last April.

Actor Pete Postlethwaite passed away in England yesterday at the age of 64, following a twenty-year battle with cancer. A familiar presence in British TV since the ’70s, Postlethwaite didn’t get his big break until the early ’90s, when he received on Oscar nomination for playing Daniel Day-Lewis‘ gentle pop in In The Name Of The Father. He then went on to play memorable roles in The Usual Suspects, The Lost World and Brassed Off!, appearing in two of 2010’s biggest hits, Inception and The Town (both nominated for Critics’ Choice Movie Awards). Postlethwaite was honored with an OBE in 2004.

This is such sad news to start the week on. Naked Gun and Airplane funnyman Leslie Nielsen passed away yesterday. He was 84 years old and apparently died from complications due to pneumonia in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The news spread when his nephew, Doug Nielsen, told CJOB68 radio station, “Today at 5:30 with his friends and his wife by his side, he just fell asleep and passed away.”
What would cinema as we know it be like without a Dr Rumack? (Nielsen’s character in Airplane). In response we’d just like to say, “I am serious… and don’t call me Shirley!” Rest in peace.
Brittany Murphy would’ve been 33 years old today. Tragically, the star passed away late last year; six months later her husband Simon Monjack died as well.
We’re going to hear a lot about their lives though, because according to TMZ, Brit’s mother Sharon Murphy is writing a tell-all book about her actress-daughter’s life. An official statement reads, “This book will be my way of celebrating and honoring her extraordinary life and career.” Our eyebrows are raised, but Sharon reiterates that the memoir-of-sorts will be an, “accurate account about my daughter, her life, loves, and career.”
We’ll only know what the intent of the book is once it surfaces. We’re hoping it really is a celebration of Brittany’s life and not just some excuse to air dirty laundry or secrets (though we’d probably read it either way).

We can’t be the only ones who love watching the In Memoriam tributes at awards shows. It’s endlessly fascinating to watch a recap of celebrity death in montage form, and it makes us misty when we remember those celebrities we particularly loved or who died especially tragically. Sometimes we need to keep an eye out to read the name of someone we don’t recognize, a producer or composer usually, but the names are always displayed. Last night’s Emmy tribute was no different than any other, and we thought nothing of it, possibly because we were too busy plugging our ears while Jewel yodeled a song about you-shaped holes in her heart.
But it turns out, lots of people didn’t recognize Corey Haim during the montage and in a flash, the internet was all abuzz over how we lost that American treasure, child actor Fred Savage this year. Never mind the fact that Haim’s name was flashed on screen. Never mind the fact that Fred Savage has an active Twitter account or that he’s been busy directing episodes of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia these days. Savage is 100% alive, and we’re relieved by that. But forgive us for relishing this story for another reason – without it, we never would have discovered the above picture of Savage as a child – nay, as the most adorable child that ever lived.
In case you missed it, watch the whole In Memoriam tribute after the jump. R.I.P. Corey Haim and all the other small screen stars we lost this year.
The strange goings-on behind closed doors in the Brittany Murphy – Simon Monjack household continue to amaze us, even months after both of their deaths.
Monjack and Murphy’s mother Sharon moved in together after Brittany’s death, which is a little odd, but we were hesitant to judge a grieving family (even though they did sit for an, um, intimate photo shoot, seen below). The relationship was so suspicious that Monjack had to deny rumors that he and Sharon were having some sort of affair. But now that Monjack has also passed away, new information is making things seem even weirder.
In a report on Monjack’s death from the L.A. coroner’s office, an investigator states that while searching the Monjack-Murphy home, Murphy pointed to Monjack’s bed and explained that half of it was “her side of the bed.” She also had prescriptions at the home that were written out to Sharon Monjack. The report shows no evidence of sexual contact, which doesn’t really comfort us. Sharon Murphy has certainly been through a lot in the past year and this report will probably only make her life harder, but there are a lot of people (us included) who can’t wrap their head around any of this.
What a horrible way to go. Dr Frank Ryan was a beloved plastic surgeon to the stars and responsible for Heidi Montag‘s jaw-dropping transformation. He also had Gene Simmons, the Gastineau Girls, Janice Dickinson, Shauna Sand, Vince Neil and Adrianne Curry on his roster, a who’s who of Hollywood’s most famous fake faces and bods.
Ryan’s 1995 Jeep Wrangler went down a rocky embankment towards the ocean on the Pacific Coast Highway yesterday. It landed on its roof, with Frank stuck inside. Lifeguards even tried to help get him out but to no success and when the paramedics arrived Dr Ryan was pronounced dead. The official cause is  “blunt force head injuries.” Ryan’s dog was also in the car and was found in the ocean. His eye and paws were injured but was otherwise released yesterday and in stable condition. There are some reports that he was messaging and tweeting when he accidentally drove over the cliff.
Condolences have started pouring in from all Dr. Ryan’s celebrity friends and clients. Heidi Montag tweeted,  “I am devastated to hear the news of Dr. Frank Ryan’s death. He was the most amazing person I have ever known. He was an angel and changed my life and the lives of everyone he met. He was the most brilliant talented surgeon who will ever exist. Dr. Frank Ryan changed the world.”
We’d argue that scooping out Heidi’s back wasn’t really world changing, but still – this is sad news. We send our prayers to his family and loved ones.
Brittany Murphy‘s husband, Simon Monjack, had a secret that he carried to the grave. A laptop has unearthed evidence that Monjack had two children! Simon’s mother, brother and therapist stayed at Simon’s home last week with Sharon Murphy – Brittany Murphy‘s mom – and apparently took the laptop when they left.
While going through the computer’s files, they found emails from two women who wanted money from Monjack for child support. It seems he had a son by one woman and a daughter by another. Files for wire transfers for chunks of money were also found, as large as $ 48,000 in one go. He was also sending cash to lawyers, as well as to somebody in Europe for some sort of settlement deal. It just gets more and more mysterious. (And sad. And creepy.)
Simon’s immediate family strongly felt the coroner should have the computer and handed it over, and the office is currently reviewing the contents. Sharon has angrily filed a theft report with the police.

There’s been a lot of dispute since Gary Coleman passed away. Specifically between his ex-wife Shannon Price and his parents about who’ll get his estate. In the wake of all this upheaval, news about his final wishes have surfaced.
Price say’s that he wished to be cremated and that he wanted his ashes to be scattered around train tracks. She say’s he asked, “To spread some of them around some train tracks because trains were his hobby and he loved that very much. And I think that he would really appreciate that I did that for him.”
The couple reportedly used to feud over his train hobby. Jordan Prentince, a co-star on his last movie Midgets vs. Mascots said, “He once bought her a train set as a gift. She was furious.”
Price also adds that she has a legal document stating that “he wanted me to have everything.” Elaborating further she said, “His financial problems have always been bad with people stealing from him. Gary hasn’t been able to take care of finances very well because no one taught him. [But] we survived through everything. I had some family help us. My family’s been very supportive [of us].” We think he should be cremated in peace without any more campaigning.

Several of Dennis Hopper‘s celebrity friends were on hand in Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico to say farewell to their old pal at his funeral yesterday. Jack Nicholson and Peter Fonda were there to send off their Easy Rider co-star, with Nicholson saying “It was a very singular relationship I had with him, like nobody else. We were soul mates in a way. I really miss him.” Val Kilmer, who starred with Hopper in True Romance and lives in a neighboring town in New Mexico also attended.
Hopper, who died on Saturday from prostate cancer at age 74, was eulogized by his son Henry Lee Hopper, who said “There are very, very few people in this world who fight from the day they’re born to the day they go out. I would say Dennis was undoubtedly one of these people.”
