Excuse us for assuming that a Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez duet might be a little too “pink bejeweled cupcakes frosted with teeny tiny hearts and bunny kisses” for our taste. As the two littlest divas proved last night at Madison Square Garden with their duet version of Gomez’s song “Who Says?,” however, Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez together are sweet without being saccharine, as well as utterly charming. Watching them belt it out at the last stop on Swift’s “Speak Now” concert tour reminds us of singing TLC’s “Waterfalls” in our best friend’s back yard. Except Taylor and Selena are performing for thousands of shrieking fans, and we were singing into an old hair brush. Either way, somebody‘s mom is getting misty-eyed at this. Oh yeah, and us.
Remember when Miley Cyrus declined to tour in the U.S. because she is getting “the most love” in Australia and South America? Guess she didn’t count on all that love bolting past security and grabbing her on-stage. Miley Cyrus’s fan attack came during a concert in Melbourne this week, when a small adoring fan sprinted up to the singer and tried to put her arm around her. So, what, people would see concert picture and think they were best friends? Despite being yanked away by a bodyguard and Miley being hustled off stage, the phantom side-hugger managed to escape into the crowd, thereby making herself a legend to in the minds of delusional tweens everywhere.
Miley laughed off the incident after returning to the stage, joking later in the show, “I’ve never been so thankful to have young fans who jumped from [the arena's balcony] onto my back. This next song is for all my crazy fans out there that are awesome.” Don’t encourage this kind of thing, woman! This all seems eerily similar to Justin Bieber’s undercover cop incident, though there’s not much chance Miley’s fan was secretly a police officer, unless we’re talking about some kind of Doogie Howser-style tween genius cop situation. In which case, we guess that girl earned that side-hug for her years of service to Australia.
At first when we watched this video of Black Eyed Peas’ Will.I.Am forgetting his lyrics, then reading his entire rap break off his BlackBerry, we felt embarrassed for him. But when we watched it again, we realized that the fact he doesn’t even attempt to hide what he’s trying to do is…a little awesome. The man doesn’t even look phased as he scrolls through his rhymes while performing on-stage with Stromae on the French show Taratata. You can tell he’s thinking, “Yup, just dancing with this guy in bright red knee socks while I read directly off this tiny screen. And? I chose to assume you’re staring at me with your mouth open because you love my blazer that much.” The song, “Don’t Stop The Party” is at least a new one; if Will was breaking it down to “My Humps,” “Let’s Get It Started,” or any other classic Peas song, he could have just rhymed the last word of each line and no one would have ever been the wiser.
