Yesterday, Conor Kennedywas arrested outside the White House gate while participating in a peaceful protest about climate change issues. He was in good company too, as there were 47 other high-profile names in the group, including his father Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and actress Daryl Hannah. So basically, he is no longer the teenage guy who Taylor Swift dumped, but the guy who’s tall, cute, young, has great hair, is a Kennedy and gets arrested because he cares so much about our climate. In other words, he will have no shortage of dates for the rest of his life. Taylor heard about the news and this was basically her reaction before she ran to the phone to call him.
We all knew this day would come…and we can’t wait to hear the song about it! Us Weekly reports that Taylor Swift and Conor Kennedy have ended their relationship of roughly three months, probably because Conor’s math tutoring lessons were getting in the way. Cause he’s a baby! “They quietly parted ways a while ago,” their source claims. “No hard feelings.” Now, Tay Tay has already tagged the liner notes for her new (tragically hopeful) Red song “Begin Again” with the phrase “Hannis Port” (referencing the Kennedys’ home base, as well as the location of her new home), but obviously there are other relationship specifics Taylor is bound to drop in upcoming albums that we can use identify which songs are about Conor. Because you know some of them will be. Or all of them. The girl bought a house in near Conor’s memaw, people! So if we ever seen any of these references, we know which romance inspired Taylor’s songwriting.
We’ve always had a difficult time pinpointing exactly what it is we love about Taylor Swift. Is it her voice? Her willingness to pour her heart out in her songs? Her ability to do perfect cat-eye makeup? Leave it to Kennedy matriarch Ethel Kennedy to sum it up in a way none of us could: “She’s just sensational inside and out,” Kennedy said of grandson Conor‘s girlfriend, speaking to CapeCast at the Kennedy Golf Tournament. “She’s very kind, and you know what she really is? She’s game. She had never sailed before; she sailed. … She played anything that everyone else was doing, and she was good at it and no fuss. And I’m happy that we’ll be neighbors.” (Man, when I first met my husband’s grandmother, all she could do was scold me for getting a tattoo!)
This great quote also reminded us of something we’d forgotten while all the focus was on Taylor and Conor: The singer actually met his grandma and aunt Rory Kennedy first. Filmmaker Rory and her mother spoke to Celebs.com about their connection to Taylor back in January, when they were photographed together at the Sundance premiere of Rory’s doc Ethel. “[Taylor] really took the initiative to reach out to meet my mother because she’d read about her and was a fan and admired her. … There’s a mutual admiration society between my mother and Taylor Swift.” Read more…
It’s no surprise to us that Taylor Swift covers the November “Hair Issue” of Glamour. We’d probably kill for her luscious blond waves, if such a deal could be made. Still, the singer looks surprised in the photo — though this time it’s not, her “Gosh! You picked me?” surprise face, it’s more, “Oh, you caught me! It’s a good thing I had my hair all done and this pretty gold dress on.” In all seriousness, she looks as awesome as ever — with her fave red lipstick matching her nails, belt and a random swath of tulle — and we want lessons in how to apply blush so perfectly. We also want lessons in playing coy the way she did with the interviewer.
When the Glamour writer brought up “Dear John” and her ex-boyfriend John Mayer’s comment to Rolling Stone that it was about him, she responded, “How presumptuous! I never disclose who my songs are about.” And apparently, she managed to shield herself from anything Mayer said to RS about feeling “humiliated” by the song. “No! I don’t want to know, I don’t want to know,” she said as his quote was about to be read to her. I know it wasn’t good, so I don’t want to know. I put a high priority on staying happy, and I know what I can’t handle. … It’s not that I’m this egomaniac and I don’t want to hear anything negative, because I do keep myself in check. But I’ve never developed that thick a skin.” Read more…
And this whole time we thought they were your standard issue repressed Irish Catholics! We guess we should have gotten the hint when Victoria Gifford Kennedy complained to the Boston Herald about Taylor Swift‘s wedding crashing last month, rather than silently clench her jaw and swirl her high ball glass, Lucille Bluth-style. While the mother-of-the-bride might still be peeved, it looks like there are plenty of Kennedys who are more than happy to swoon to the press about the latest quasi-addition to their clan. “We love Taylor Swift,” former Congressman and Conor Kennedy relative Patrick Kennedygushed to TMZ. “She’s been a great friend and we’re happy for Conor.” A great friend! Aw, that is some Taylor-level cuteness right there. Maybe she has met her madras-plaid-and-Peter-Pan-collar match after all!
Of course, seeing as how Taylor Swift already raved about the family to Rolling Stone, attended at least one of their religious ceremonies unannounced andbought a house down the block, we should hope the Kennedys think she’s the bee’s knees. Exclaimed Patrick, “If she wants to be in the family, she’s already a part of it.” Whoa, do you think Taylor could handle a family as intense as she is? (It would take a whole family, wouldn’t it?) We can’t wait to hear Conor’s first album of angst pop ballads to find out!
Let’s hope this Conor Kennedy thing works out! If not, Taylor Swift is now recorded forever in the annals of Rolling Stone history, talking about buying a house near her one-time crush. Awk-ward! “That would be so amazing,” the “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” singer gushed to the magazine about purchasing a home in Hyannis Port near the Kennedys. Llast time we checked, girl was doing just that, but…haven’t Taylor and Conor only been dating for , ike, two months? And that Page Six claimed Taylor chartered a private jet to ferry Conor from Massachusetts to Nashville? Well, uh, most millionaire-high school senior relationships work out, don’t they? Don’t they? Hoo boy…
Romantical aspects of her songwriting aside, Swift’s interview also offers an interesting insight into her psyche: if Taylor spends half as much time thinking about her relationships as she does her stage show, the woman deserves a M.S. in Couples Counseling. “After I write a song, I always end up laying awake at night thinking, ‘What are the lighting cues going to be on this? How big is the pit going to be?’ I have been thinking of some big moments that are going to happen,” Taylor explains. Haha, you’re right. What do we mean “if she spends half as much time thinking about her relationships as she does her stage show?” “I know general things about love,” Swift reveals. “How to treat people well, what you deserve and when to walk away. Other than that, love is a complete mystery – and that’s why I like to write about it.” No wonder she’s buying real estate when everyone one else is deliberating whither to leave a toothbrush at their boyfriend’s place. Heart on her sleeve, 18-year-old boyfriend hurtling toward Nashville on a chartered jet: that’s the way we like our Taylor.
The hot sun, the warm sand, the intoxicating scent of bug spray: yes, the summer time is prime time for hook-ups, both celebrity and original flavor. From the clam-chowder-and-madras-plaid love of Taylor Swift and Conor Kennedy, to the surprise engagement of Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger (their wedding is going to be designed by Hot Topic, right?), check out our favorite hook-ups from summer 2012, and wish you hadn’t spent the last three months inside on your computer:
Call us clinically insane, but if Taylor Swift suddenly crashed our swanky rich person nuptials, we know exactly to do: demand Taylor perform, force our wedding planner to go buy an acoustic guitar and then cry to the dulcet strains of “Love Story” while eating three pieces of cake. Duh. That’s Like Unexpected Taylor Swift 101!
Guess not everyone agrees, seeing as how Taylor’s appearance at the wedding of Liam Kerr and Kyle Kennedy, daughter of the late Michael Kennedy, this past weekend is causing a bit of a kerfuffle, even though she was obviously there as Conor Kennedy‘s date. “[Conor and Taylor] texted me an hour before the wedding and asked if they could come. I responded with a very clear, ‘Please do not come.’ They came anyway,” mother of the bride Victoria Gifford Kennedycomplained to the Boston Herald. “I personally went up to Ms. Swift, whose entrance distracted the entire event, politely introduced myself to her, and asked her as nicely as I could to leave. It was like talking to a ghost. She seemed to look right past me.” According to Swift’s rep, however, “Taylor was invited to the wedding and the bride thanked her profusely for being there.” Hmmm, this all sounds kind of fishy. We understand that it was Kyle’s day, but we suspect there could have been a few other reasons Taylor wasn’t exactly welcome at the wedding:
It’s one of the greatest mysteries since contemplating the beginning of the universe: Who is Taylor Swift “never ever, ever getting back together” with in her new song, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”? It’s all we can think about since she announced the release of Red in an online chat with her fans last night. “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” is the first single to be released from the album and, like many of her other excellent breakup songs, the lyrics are driving us crazy. John Mayer? Taylor Lautner? Jake Gyllenhaal? Joe Jonas? Which of these guys is she never going to give the time of day to ever again? Maybe it’s someone we don’t even know! Tay, why must you torture us like this. The blond beauty always sings straight from her heart, so we know this must be a page ripped right out of her diary.
Taylor confirmed the truth to her breakup track in an interview that aired on Good Morning America today. The song is about a breakup that was on and off. But what really inspired it was when a friend of her ex told her he heard she and the mystery ex were going to be rekindling the romance. Her lyrics set the record straight: “You go talk to your friends, talk to my friends, talk to me/ But we are never ever, ever, ever getting back together.”
We hear you loud and clear, Taylor. We know she’s head over heels for Conor Kennedy after purchasing a new house near his family’s compound, so she is definitely not looking for new love anytime soon. But who is this ex who is so new song worthy? Your guess is as good as ours. Here’s a gallery of her real and rumored bfs for you to choose from.
Relationship twist! After hearing that Taylor Swift and Conor Kennedy have been sharing milkshakes, holding hands and/or enjoying picnic lunches since July, we’re kind of stunned to hear that Taylor purchased a house in Hyannis, Massachusetts last week, a house that happens to be extremely close to Conor’s memaw Ethel Kennedy‘s home. “It’s in a beautiful location and right across the street from Conor and the Kennedys,” a relator confirmed to People. “It’s a beautiful home. She got a nice home, paid fair price. The house was on the market for two to four years.” Whoa! On one hand, Taylor is a millionaire and can do whatever the fudge she wants. On the other hand, imagine walking into your grandma’s house and your girlfriend is already there, sipping sun tea and looking at your naked baby pictures. Slightly unnerving, yes?
So that got us thinking: other than the obvious (Taylor is making a play for her 18-year-old boyfriend of a month with a play that is not even in the playbacks yet), there has to be a perfectly reasonable explanation for why Taylor would drop a chunk of change for a house Conor Kennedy can see while he eats breakfast.
