After donning a red Proenza Schouler gown, Kristen Stewart left the Costume Institute Gala and headed to the after party at the Standard Hotel in what we’d call “Classic K-Stew:” black skinny jeans, knotted t-shirt, and her trusty blue Vans. Most celebs stayed in their gowns, and some even changed into a second glammed up dress. Not our Kristen! The fact that she hops out of her fancy clothes as fast as she can AND dares to dress down at an event where Anna Wintour may be cowering in a corner, judging people on their threads, only makes us love Kristen more.
Here they are, our picks for Best Dressed at this year’s Costume Institute Gala. Our finalists captured a mix of moods, from old-school glam girls Gwyneth Paltrow and Ashley Greene, to pops of color on Kristen Stewart and J-Lo, to the risky and avant garde looks on Christina Ricci and Ginnifer Goodwin. The one thing they all have in common – serious confidence, which is our favorite red carpet accessory.
Here they are — our picks for the absolute ugliest, WTF-iest and just way off outfits at tonight’s Costume Institute Gala. The annual event — held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and hosted by Vogue and Anna Wintour — is arguably one of fashion’s biggest nights, and it always amazes us that so many people get it SO.WRONG. Kirsten Dunst! Riri! These are the gals we look to for inspiration, but their outfits, hair and shoes just blahhhh-ed tonight. Christina Hendricks normally wins every time she walks the carpet, but this outfit looks like something she dug out of a dumpster and smeared on her body. Naomi Campbell should throw her rhinestone-covered Blackberry at herself for this abysmal showing (Do we spy a scrunchie?!), Ashley Olsen‘s arms are sleeved in 100% fail and Freida Pinto is going to have to nail it on every red carpet for the rest of the year to make us forgive and forget this hipster douche tie monstrosity.
Kristen Stewart arrived at the Costume Institute Gala tonight wearing a stunning, full-length, apple red Proenza Schouler gown and heels (with Fred Leighton jewels), and was accompanied to the event by the designers, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough. We almost died from envy but we remembered we had to write this post and saved ourself at the last minute. This isn’t the first time Kristen has dazzled in the designer’s threads – she wore an adorable Proenza Schouler ensemble while promoting New Moon in 2009 and teamed up with the guys this year for a Vogue cover spread. We are loving the look — what do you think?
The 2011 Costume Institute Gala red carpet has just started, and we will be packing this post with every photo we can find through out the night. The second we can get our hands on it we will get it to you – scout’s honor. Tonight’s event is honoring Alexander McQueen, so we expect lots of fearless fashion at the Metropolitan Museum of Art tonight! Don’t let us down, starlets — we’re counting on you.
