It’s still hard to believe that Michelle Williams, star of films like Blue Valentine and Brokeback Mountain, is the same actress who played Jen Lindley on the Dawson’s Creek. Of course, the real lives of pretty much everyone on that show are surprising—just look at Katie Holmes. In an interview with PopEater, Williams admitted that even while she was on Dawson, the show was miles away from where she wanted to be, career-wise. “Being on Dawson’s Creek was kind of like being a mobster. You set up a shop selling pizza but in the back you’re laundering money. You’re doing one thing in plain sight and secretly plotting something else. I was plotting my tastes, my interests, my beliefs and hopes for what I could be.”
Though Williams did appear in a couple of movies that could be considered fluff (Halloween H2O comes to mind), for the most part she has only taken roles she believed in and lent her credibility. She explained, “It was never an option to me to make a lot of money or do work I couldn’t get behind. That’s not my nature. What is hard is living up to your own expectations. Yes, it was hard getting jobs I wanted. I was a pop tart. It took patience and baby steps.” Michelle has certainly has come a long way since Jen Lindley took Dawson’s virginity and then died in Grams’ arms. (R.I.P. Jen.)—could she take Best Actress at this year’s Critics’ Choice Movie Awards?
We know that James Franco’s gay prostitute story is only going to fuel rumors that our future husband is gay, but lordy, how we don’t care right now. While on Inside the Actor’s Studio this week, Franco explained that he was hanging out with a gigolo named Sonny to prepare for a role and, well, “He took me on one of his jobs.” We didn’t even have to turn that into a double entendre to make it filthy! Our favorite part of the video is when James Lipton screams, “We certainly do!” as he encourages Franco to tell the story. In that one moment, James Lipton represented the America public: one classy, bespectacled voice screaming for all.
Said a bashful James, “So I did…and it went down. Everything went down like you see in the movies.” Not only is James Franco intensely dedicated to his craft, but we both like the same movies! So, just to recap: James Franco watched a gay prostitute have sex with a client, and then talked about it on Inside the Actor’s Studio. We don’t know which part is making our brain explode more. Okay, yeah we do: it’s the gay sex part.
“Ang, let’s go in and get some nachos already.” “I’m not done hypnotizing people with my leg, dear.” Though Angelina Jolie surprised us by bringing hubby Brad Pitt to her Tourist premiere in NYC after all (we figured they’d pose her with co-star Johnny Depp), Chelsea Handler‘s “homewrecking b—“ got plenty of solo time in front of the cameras to show off her gam-baring gown. With his own common-law spouse elsewhere, Depp just lurked around like the Creepiest Hipster Alive. See photos of these stars and more in the gallery below.
Sorry, everyone. In case you were under the impression that you know how to have a good time, the cast and crew of Blue Valentine want you to know their good time is even better. Ironically, the flick is sort of a downer, but you’d never know it judging from the head-tossing laughter shared by all at the special Robert DeNiro-hosted screening of the film this weekend.
In addition to all the adults having a raucous time, Ryan Gosling palled it up with his young co-star Faith Wladyka again—you may recall that they were looking pretty adorable together at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, and this time was no different. Yep, our ovaries still love him. For more photos of the event, click through our gallery!
Ugh, would you look at those heifers?! Just kidding! These two are so gorgeous and perfect, it’s like we died and woke up in Beautiful People Heaven. Apparently while shooting their new film Blue Valentine, Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams got into some pretty fierce competition to see who could pack on the most pounds…and Michelle won! “She gained about 15, 16 pounds. He gained 14,” said Blue Valentine director, Derek Cianfrance. “Michelle was eating a pint of ice cream for breakfast and dinner and avocado sandwiches all day. She wanted to do it. She talked about her character having a certain self-hatred.” Clearly! Why else would you eat delicious ice cream morning, noon and night if it wasn’t because you hated yourself? Or because you love ice cream?
So how did someone with the bone structure of a wood nymph gain another 1/5 of her body weight? “She ate that [Purely] Decadent stuff made with coconut milk. Supposedly the coconut milk, the oil, has a lot of fat in it, and it’s hard for your body to break it down.” Oh, so maybe her character really did hate herself. We’d personally have to lose a lot of self-esteem before we switched over to eating coconut fat. [Photo: Getty Images]
Black Swan, Darren Aronofsky‘s film about rival ballet dancers Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, premiered last night in New York. The film marks a turning point for Kunis, who up until now has generally made lighter, more comedic films. We haven’t seen the movie yet but we can say for sure that Kunis, who plays the titular Black Swan in the film, stole the show on the red carpet last night—she’s clearly making the transition to serious films flawlessly. Her co-star Portman also looked amazing, although we’re wondering why she chose to carry a copy of Lolita around with her all night—is this some hollow-book-as-purse Etsy trend we’re unaware of, or does she just love the book that much?

Yes, Sandra and Scarlett swapped spit onstage, but that’s not the first time Sandra has shared the stage and her lips with another beautiful actress. Earlier this year, Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep kissed in an unforgettable moment at the 2010 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards. We want to know which kiss you think was hotter! Sandra and Scarlett’s sensual peck or Sandra and Meryl’s open mouthed kiss?
Watch Sandra and Meryl’s surprise smooch from the CCMAs now.
We’ve been a fan of Ed Helms since we first saw him do improv at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in NYC back in the day, and every lady we know holds a serious torch for the bespectacled funny guy. He’s handsome, charming, and a banjo-playing machine – the complete package, obvs. So when we caught up with Ed in the press room at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, we had to ask him what he thought about his heartthrob status. Turns out, all the lady attention makes him a wee bit tongue-tied.
“Really?” He asked incredulously, when we mentioned all our swooning gal pals. “I want all of their numbers.”
But then we, uh, made the mistake of calling Ed an “alternative heartthrob” (what can we say, we were nervous – it came out wrong!) and things got a little awkward. “I’ll try not to be insulted by the term ‘alternative heartthrob,'” he teased, adding that the lady admiration, “feels alternatively good.”
Whenever you want those numbers, let us know Ed! [Photo: GettyImages]
There were a lot of hot looks at theCritics’ Choice Movie Awards and it was no easy task narrowing down the best of the best. Still, we managed to wade through all of sartorial options that Hollywood presented us and we narrowed it down to our ten favorites.
Anna Kendrick‘s long black dress had a beautiful silhouette, but what really wowed us was the elegant back detail and frilly bottom. We love her polished ponytail too, which gave the look a fun, youthful touch.
We love the detailing alongMo’nique‘s neckline, but her other accessory (that would be a Best Supporting Actress statue for Precious) is pretty stunning too. Her look is polished and that dress fits her like a glove. This is one of the more understated outfits Mo’nique has worn on the red carpet, and we love it.
