Katy Perry has always been way ahead of the nail game. We know Kelly Osbourne tried to usurp her with her with a $250,000 black diamond manicure. Seriously, she had black diamonds on her nails at the Emmys this weekend, which had a fair amount of people balking at the indulgence of it all. Not Kelly, though, who tweeted, “I see that my nail polish has offended some of you, however I see your point, but it was a once in a lifetime experience. #MyApologizes” adding, “And please forgive me for not regretting it. it made me feel like a queen!” Queen for a day because one super-expensive manicure does not edge out all the other incredible nail designs Katy’s had over the last few years.
The singer almost always tweets out her new crazy manicures which range from the Smurfs, to her ex-Russell Brand‘s face, to the Royal Family in honor of Kate and Will’s wedding last year, to most recently, custom cartoon characters in Japan. Why don’t we ever get such awesome ideas? Exactly. So the next time you get your nails did, have a look at the gallery we’ve put together right below, of 20 of Katy’s most mind-blowing manicures. Yes … 20 of them and rest assured, none of them cost $250,000. Just so you get inspired to try something new and different! In case you’re wondering what Katy had to say of her nails — she tweeted out each and every one of these pictures — look right under the photograph and read what her messages said. Ready? Okay … click away!
We have a feeling that unlike the buttoned up and glamorous stars at the Oscars — who continue quite properly to the Vanity Fair afterparty — the TV actors who attend the Emmys can’t freaking wait until after the telecast is over, so they can let loose and act more like themselves. And for proof, we need look no further than the hilarious photos taken last night. From the presenters’ gifting suite, where Glenn Close killed us with the above bikini cut-out, to the winners step-and-repeat, where Louis C.K. turned his Emmys into action figures, to the various afterparties, stars could not stop hamming it up. We had to be judicious and not make half of this gallery pictures of Julie Bowen having the time of her life, but trust us, the two you’ll see below are perfect representations. And you know how actors and musicians laugh at regular people’s notions that all famous people know each other? They’re lying. They really are all the best of friends. We can just tell.
Modern Family star Sofia Vergara had already made America’s collective eyes bulge out of its head like a cartoon wolf yesterday, hitting the Emmys red carpet in an amazing, skin-tight, amazingly skin-tight sequined teal Zuhair Murad gown. So why not tweet a photo of her bare behind for good measure? Go big or go home, we always say…about posting pictures of your own butt! “Yes!!!! This happend 20 min before we won!!!! Jajajajja. I luv my life!!!!” Vergara tweeted after last night’s show, along with a photo of her dress’s extremely necessary zipper down for the count. Sofia then went on to post a host of afterparty pictures. See, if we did that, it would be a sign we getting drunk to forget how we posted a photo of our horrible, horrible buns to Instagram. For Sofia, however…it feels like a victory lap. It really, really does.
Now, we’re not saying that self-flashing photos are reserved for the famous and toned. Personally we feel everyone should feel free to plaster their butt all over the social media of their chosing. But we wouldn’t be keeping it real if we didn’t take a moment to acknowledge that Sofia has clearly been putting in the gym hours necessary to have a pantsless photo she can truly be proud of. Followers of VH1 Celebrity know that we’re big YA junkies around here, and we’re reeeeally excited for Veronica Roth’s Divergent to hit the big screen. American Horror Story’s Evan Peters is a favorite of ours for any and every role these days, so we asked him if he’d heard about Divergent or Lauren Oliver’s Delirium (also hopefully headed to a movie theater near you). Says Evan about Divergent: “My agent sent me that. I gotta read that!”
Um yes, you do! While Evan didn’t win our Divergent Dream Cast poll, we’d still love to see him make the transition to film, and think he’s got the emotional range to nail a part like Four (or maybe Augustus Waters in The Fault in Our Stars). What do you think, YA fans?
We also chatted with Evan about TV in general — this being the night when such things are celebrated — and the star admitted to his newly acquired habit: reality TV. Welcome to the club, Evan!
We’ve seen what lots of crossover stars wore on the Emmys red carpet. By that we mean actresses who we’ve seen in films but have lead roles in major television dramas now. Like Ginnifer Goodwin (love the orange gown), Zooey Deschanel and Claire Danes (yellow gown fail, sadly.) We even saw the grand Jessica Lange winning ‘Best Supporting Actress In A Miniseries’ for American Horror Story and Julianne Moore (another yellow misstep, but love her anyway) who won ‘Best Actress In A Miniseries’ for Game Change. But there were other bonafide movie stars attending the event — ladies who we associate with the film world even if they dabble on the TV world. Nicole Kidman led the way looking statuesque in a white Antonio Berardi column with aqua sequined overlay. It’s unusual, and we still have to mull over whether we like it or not. Kate Mara requires no mulling over because she looked fabulous in a soft, vintage-looking Badgley Mischka dress with Christian Louboutin shoes. Ashley Judd, sadly, took us to the other end of the like spectrum: dislike. Her plum custom Carolina Herrera did her no favors and she looked fussy and matronly, especially with that bouffant up-do. Lucy Liu brought the glam right back in a metallic mesh Versace column. Trust her to set it straight again. We end on a low note though — saving the not-so-best for last. Amanda Peet, why would you wear this? The lovely actress looked washed out and insipid in an ill-fitting pale pink Calvin Klein gown. Want a closer look? Head on to our gallery.
You can always count on VH1 to ask celebrities the most important questions on the red carpet. We headed to the Emmys with one mission and one mission only: to get as many stars as possible to sing their favorite TV theme songs. After all there are SO many good ones! Just try to pick your favorite. Cheers, Friends, The Jeffersons, Punky Brewster, Facts of Life, Welcome Back Kotter, New Girl, the amazing instrumental jams of The Cosby Show and Beverly Hills, 90210 — can you choose just one? The stars we talked to at the Emmys gave it their best shot and some even sang their picks because really, that’s the only way to do it. Wanna see what it looks like when Hank (Dean Norris) from Breaking Bad sings The Brady Bunch theme song? How about The Amazing Race’s Phil Keoghan singing Gilligan’s Island? Yeah, we thought so. Click on, friends.
Aqua blue never looked so fine! Three exceedingly sexy women ended up wearing the same shade of sea foam to the Emmys and we’re having a hard time choosing who looked best. On the left, we have the sinuously sparkly Sofia Vergara, who poured herself in this fishtail, sequined Zuhair Murad gown, which earned her a best-dressed nod. Also, in a sparkly, aqua fishtail dress was the very glamorous Julianne Hough, only she wore a Georges Hobeika Fall 2012 Couture gown. And if you think that’s all the sexy we got, have a look below.
Heidi Klum brought her A-game in this double-slitted gown by Alexandre Vauthier, which landed her on the best-dressed list as well. We love the draped, free-flowing detailing. Deciding between this trio is making us … blue in the face. Apologies. We couldn’t resist. But they do look fabulous, don’t they? Hit our poll up to let us know who you prefer.
The color yellow didn’t do too well on the Emmys carpet, but how did its citrus counterpart, orange, fare? Not too good, either, sadly. There were a few exceptions, though. Ginnifer Goodwin and Padma Lakshmi‘s gorgeous tangerine gowns — both by Monique Lhuillier — landed them on the best-dressed list for the night. Cat Deely worked it in a one-shouldered dramatic gown that looked like it may have been a Monique number as well. But that’s as far as the awesome orange went. A few came close. Nancy O’Dell‘s two-toned gown may have worked had it not been for that stip of cream shoulder strap and her distracting earrings. Gretchen Mol‘s gown started okay at the top but draped listlessly on her body. Her orange bag and heels made the whole thing too matchy-matchy as well. Jessica Lange — how we love you. We just wish your gown fit better! Have a look — along with all the other orange gowns — in our gallery below.
Okay, firstly, I want to be Jesse Tyler Ferguson‘s best friend. Secondly, I want to be in a relationship as adorable as Jesse and Justin Mikita‘s. Thirdly … have you seen Jesse’s Twitter account lately? It’s on fyah! It was the best thing about the Emmys, in my opinion! The tweets were hilarious and the WhoSay images were filled with people we love and want to be BFF with along with Jesse. For instance, this one with Lena Dunhamread, “Finally. The meeting of the two greatest minds of ALL time.” We agree. They are the two greatest minds of all time. Or this classic one with co-star Eric Stonestreet, saying, “you’re going down.” He’s “Lovers and Foes” with Max Greenfield and likes to give us backstage peeks with jokes like, “Right before ZooeyDeschanel pushed OfficialJLD down the stairs and took the #Emmy.” And he also tweets adorable pictures with his partner, that say, “I DID win! Look at my prize!” Melting yet? Here are the accompanying images to all his twittering. There were a lot more, like the one you see right below, but these are the top five images. Tough job!
We’re normally quite happy to see bright citrus colors on any red carpet, but this year’s Emmy Awards may have changed all of that. Who doesn’t love yellow, right? Us, normally, but this time the shade was anything but a ray of sunshine at the event. Claire Danes‘ Lanvin toga-gone-wrong (we’re weeping that it’s a Lanvin) and Julianne Moore‘s Dior Couture fancy nun’s habit already got them on this year’s worst-dressed list. Coming this close to being added on that list is Julie Bowen, whose Monique Lhullier gown looked jarring on her, especially since her hair was all wrong. Kelli Garner was a tad more on the mustard side of the shade card, but her dress was drapes gone all wrong, mismatched makeup and silver shoes that should not have been put on her feet. Getting it somewhat right was the gorgeous Hannah Simone whose one-shouldered romantic, custom Emilio Pucci dress was a step in the correct direction. We just wished someone had pulled the bodice up a little because it makes her girls look droopy and lumpy because of the ruching on the bodice. Loving her Lorraine Schwartz gold leaf earrings, though. Kaley Cuoco came close too, with her sunshine Angel Sanchez dress. The fit let her down again, but the messy braid and rose pink lipstick are ace! The only person who got yellow completely right was the unknown-on-these-shores, Renee Bargh, who is an Australian television presenter. She worked it in a simple strapless gown and gold circle necklace. Take note, ladies.
