Holly Madison Makeover: Fab Or Fail?

Holly Madison went from Hooters waitress with a dream to hot independent woman with a career of her own. As Holly climbed up the ranks as one of Hugh Hefner’s seven girlfriends, her appearance also seemed to make a transition. Holly toned up, her nose got smaller, her hair got thicker and longer, and she had a breast job. She also upped her beauty regimen after hooking up with Hef in 2001. “More just tanning, makeup, getting hair done… just simple things that I hadn’t really had the time or interest to do before,” she said.

After becoming a household name thanks to Girls Next Door, Holly left Hef and the Playboy Mansion behind, briefly dated magician Criss Angel, then snagged a spot on the hit TV show Dancing With the Stars. Most people would probably agree that Holly has moved out of the shadow of her famous boyfriend and become her very own successful, gorgeous girl. But some might find the new Holly to be too plastic and artificial? Is Holly’s makeover fab or fail?

Jack Osbourne Makeover: Fab Or Fail?

Jack Osbourne came on the scene as a pudgy, curly-haired rebellious teenager on the hit reality series, The Osbournes. As the trials and tribulations of his rock family were chronicled, Jack was often shown chowing down on Easy Mac and fighting with his sister Kelly Osbourne. But Jack shed nearly seventy pounds and debuted a whole new look in 2005.

Jack kick-started his weight loss by detoxing at a Thai kickboxing camp which included a high fiber liquid diet and coffee enemas. The rehabbed star gave up cigarettes, alcohol, drugs and junk food, started running and rock climbing and going to bed early. He traded in his rocker T-shirts for tailored suits and swapped his glasses for contacts. Jack had fully made his transformation when in December 2005 he appeared semi-naked in Cosmopolitan, which he said was a big “Ha! To everyone who laughed at him before.”

Is the new Jack fab? Or do you miss the old?

Mel B Makeover: Fab Or Fail?

As the most outlandish member of the 90s girl group The Spice Girls, Melanie Brown (aka, Mel B) sported a mass of curly hair, a loud Leeds accent, an aggressive attitude, and flashy outfits (often featuring leopard prints), all of which helped earn her the moniker “Scary Spice.” Melanie busted out on her own after the group split up, but had moderate success as a solo recording artist.

After moving to Los Angeles from England, Melanie was embroiled in a bitter paternity battle with Eddie Murphy after claiming she was pregnant with his baby in 2006. The paternity test proved that the baby was indeed Eddie’s and Mel B named him “Beverly Hills Cock.” After the drama had settled, Mel B formed a family with new hubby Stephen Belafonte and competed on Dancing With the Stars. Melanie has replaced the “Scary” outfits of the ’90s with a more demure, glamorous look and she’s straightened her formerly wild hair. Her ripped abs and classy look solidify her as a Hollywood M.I.L.F.

Do you like the Mel B of the ’90s or the Melanie of today?

Britney Spears Makeover: Fab Or Fail?

Britney Spears has seen her share of ups and downs, and the drama has played out in the tabloids as well as all over her body. The pop star was known for her taut abs and cut physique before getting pregnant with sons Jayden and Sean Preston. While she reclaimed her pre-baby bod after their births, things went downhill as her emotional state began to crumble following her divorce from Kevin Federline.

In 2007, Brit plastered her body with unfortunate tattoos (like a pair of puckered lips) before infamously shaving her head. The singer then donned a variety of wigs and shoddy hair extensions, ate one too many Cheetos, and lost her immaculate physique. But a stint in a mental hospital and support from her parents sure did the trick.

Since awkwardly shuffling around in a too-tight bikini at the 2007 MTV Music Awards, Brit has rebounded with a firmed-up look thanks to her dance-heavy tour, Circus. There are the usual whispers of plastic surgery, but we think our girl Brit did this all on her own — minus those luxurious hair extensions.

Courtney Love Makeover: Fab Or Fail?

The last person we ever expected to go under the knife was grunge queen Courtney Love. The Hole lead singer revolutionized rock chick chic in the early 90s, when she started a worldwide trend with her baby doll dresses and barrettes. But while the disheveled look fit her image as Mrs. Kurt Cobain, she gave it up in the late 90s, when her acting career began to blossom.

Courtney glammed up her look while doing press for The People vs. Larry Flynt, and also had numerous plastic surgery procedures done. Most recently, she decided her nose job made her look too perfect and plastic, so she had reversal surgery to make it look, well, uglier. She wrote on her blog, “I’ve had my nose fixed. It looks like the one God gave me so I’m happy not to have crazy lips and a crazy teensy unnatural little nose.”

Kathy Griffin Makeover: Fab Or Fail?

Working with statuesque Brooke Shields every day would surely make anyone feel that their physical appearance had room for improvement, to say the least. Kathy Griffin starred opposite Brooke in the 90s hit comedy Suddenly Susan as her co-worker Vicky, who constantly complained that Brooke’s character could get anything simply because of her stunning looks. Perhaps Kathy believed her character’s M.O.: she underwent a laundry list of plastic surgery procedures to drastically change nearly every part of her body.

“I had lipo from my waist down — my stomach, thighs and the inside of my knees. The idea was to look like Jennifer Aniston. It didn’t work out at all. When I woke up I was not able to pee. I got toxicity and had to go to the emergency room and wear a catheter for a week. It was life-threatening, and the results were nonexistent,” she told Redbook of her first horrifying liposuction experience. The drama didn’t stop Kathy, however. She continued on her plastic surgery parade: changing her arms, legs, teeth, hair, lips, and nose, and emerging as the sleek star of her own hit reality show, Life On the D List.

Lil’ Kim Makeover: Fab Or Fail?

Kimberly Denise Jones was a curvy girl with a button nose, a big voice, and big dreams when rapper Notorious B.I.G. snapped her up from Brooklyn’s Bed-Stuy neighborhood and put her on stage with Junior M.A.F.I.A. But Lil’ Kim always sought approval from men, and her abusive relationships led her to making plastic surgery a habit. Her first nose job was reportedly more functional than cosmetic, after a violent boyfriend busted her nose. She told The Source,I’ve had the black eye, bloody lips, busted nose. I came out of the hospital from getting my nose done and he broke my [bleep] again.” Puffy, before he underwent his makeover and became Diddy, discouraged Kim from getting a breast lift, but later praised the results of her surgery. “Damn, you look good,” he told her.

Many plastic surgeries and more than a few revealing outfits later (remember those tassles?), Kim stepped out from under the shadow of B.I.G. and Puffy and went on to a solo career — headlining the colorful “Lady Marmalade” video with Christina Aguilera, Mya, and Pink. This year, after a stint in the slammer, she competed on Dancing With the Stars. Has her makeover been fab or fail?

Kelly Osbourne Makeover: Fab Or Fail?

Kelly Osbourne was a plump party girl when she busted out on the scene on her family’s reality show, The Osbournes. Kelly then shed thirty pounds by cutting back on soda, eating fresh food, and trying to have a positive frame of mind. “I find that when I get depressed, that’s when I gain it all back. But as soon as I start working and I’m productive and I feel good about myself, the weight just goes,” she said.

After a couple of stints in rehab for painkillers, Kelly reportedly has shed her drug habit for good. “I knew if I didn’t get help, I would die. I’m getting a second chance at my career and I want to be present for it.” A clean and sober Kelly started dressing in more sophisticated outfits, gracing the carpet in haute couture instead of falling out of clubs in the wee hours of the morning wearing ripped T-shirts. Kelly appears to have matured from rebellious teenager to sophisticated adult, complete with an engagement to fiancé Luke Worrall.

Marilyn Manson Makeover: Fab Or Fail?

In the ’80s, Marilyn Manson was Brian Warner, a nerdy journalism student from Ohio. But after meeting industrial music icons like Trent Reznor and My Life With Thrill Kill Kult, Warner created a new, more aggressive identity — and an iconic look to match. By the mid-nineties, he’d turned pasty and pale into a grotesque virtue. The lipstick and contact lenses probably helped.

The Antichrist Superstar — helped by such beauties as Rose McGowan, Dita Von Teese and Evan Rachel Wood — has taken a turn for the glamorous in the last decade, spending more time in designer sunglasses and stylish threads than filth-encrusted thongs. Do you miss the dirt (or the dork)?

Beyonce Makeover: Fab Or Fail?

A girl from Houston with a big voice and big dreams, Beyonce Knowles formed the girl group Destiny’s Child with friends Kelly Rowlands and Michelle Williams. She gladly belted out hits while wearing jeans and crop tops, with her bandmates always by her side. But in 2003, Beyonce busted out on her own with her solo album Dangerously in Love and a role in the Pink Panther. She lost her Destiny’s Child bandmates, but picked up future hubby Jay-Z on her arm. Beyonce stood on her own and transitioned into a headlining glamazon, frequently sporting haute couture and mingling with everyone from movie stars to political figures. Beyonce became a full on A-list celebrity on her own.
