It’s the highest compliment we can give Mark Wahlberg that we regularly forget he was once the shirtless dynamo Marky Mark. After two decades of quality film work in movies ranging from The Other Guys to Three Kings to Boogie Nights to The Departed—the last of which earning him an Oscar nomination—“Good Vibrations” is nowhere near the first thing that comes to mind when we think of him today. However, when we do think of “Good Vibrations,” we do remember that the successful actor was once the doofus brother of a New Kid On The Block, rapping about how vibrations are good like Sunkist with his pants around his ankles. And boy, do we laugh.
In honor of Wahlberg’s 40th birthday this Sunday, we’ve put together a a gallery chronicling the man’s twenties…an astounding decade where he managed to go from strutting naked at the Rock’n’Jock B-Ball Jam to winning respect at Cannes. Check out the gallery to see that remarkable evolution, as well as some priceless old school photo ops with other celebs—remember, The Departed wasn’t the first time he worked with Leonardo DiCaprio!

While everyone from Matthew Lillard to Emma Roberts attended this week’s Scream 4 premiere, it still felt like something was missing. It wasn’t until we checked out photos from the olden days that we realized what was wrong. Sure, they’d found all the old stars, but where was their wild nineties fashion! We don’t want David Arquette in a sharp suit—we want him dressed like a “pop-punk-ska” bass player! There were no trenchcoats worn with short skirts, no parachute pants, and not a single cornrowed Melissa Joan Hart to be found anywhere. They don’t just make Scream movies like they used to, they don’t make premieres like they used to!
See photos of fine ’90s fashion from your favorite Scream stars—plus celebrity pals like Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston and The Artist Formerly Known As Puff Daddy—in the gallery below.
What would the world be like if the Nicole Kidman we know today was the same as Nicole Kidman that existed as a teen in 1983? For starters, more A-listers would probably be tooling around Hollywood on their totally sweet dirt bikes. In celebration of the Blu-ray release of Nicole Kidman’s first movie BMX Bandits, here’s an interview of a 16-year-old Kidman on Young Talent Time. We cannot get over how different little Aussie Nicole looks. Yeah, sure Kidman has already admitted to using Botox, but we didn’t know she also had major cosmetic surgery on her hair. If Nicole had keep that Muppet do, sheep dog look-a-likes would be roaming the red carpets today. Pauly Shore might never have faded from the public eye. Our entire society would be upside down!
In case you ever doubted that Nicole could be a part of a crime-fighting biker gang who battles karate-chopping bad guys, EW interviewed BMX director Brian Trenchard-Smith, who raved about the young star. “They didn’t want me to cast her because she was taller than the two boys in the film,” Trenchard- Smith gushed. “I said, ‘Are you crazy!’ She had legs up to her armpits and a big shock of red hair and a gorgeous face. The camera loved her. She was ‘IT’ as far as I was concerned. She has screen chemistry and not every actor has that.” At least Nicole never lost that star power. Now if only the rest of the us were still as bike-safety-conscious as teenage Nicole was, the world would be a far better place.
Remember when Charlie Sheen was just a party guy who drank and smoked and no one really cared? For two decades he basically lived a crazy life under the radar, at least relatively speaking. Sure, there was the time that his gun accidentally went off and shot then-fiancée Kelly Preston, but how were we to know that Charlie’d end up ranting about tiger blood and showing off his porn star “goddess” babysitters on Today? For the last two decades, Sheen has been a poster boy for life in the fast line, and in 2011, he’s (somehow) living proof that there are repercussions to years of abuse.
We compiled a gallery of some of the most iconic shots of good-time Charlie, so let’s take a walk down memory lane and check out Carlos Irwin Estevez (sorry, that’s racist) back when he was a young scamp, before he turned into a monster.
While some first-time nominees like Christian Bale have never attended the Oscars, plenty of this year’s crop have been red carpet regulars. Nicole Kidman‘s first time at the Academy Awards was just over twenty years ago, back when she was Tom Cruise‘s arm candy. “I just was like absolutely stunned,” she said recently. “It was like the biggest thing I had ever seen. I couldn’t believe how loud the photographers were.” Do you remember which Best Actor hopeful brought his mom the first time he was up for the trophy ten years? Or which two ladies up for a trophy in 2011 previously competed against each other in 2006? Find out all this and more—like who went with Ed Begley Jr. right before hooking up with her future husband—by checking out the gallery below.

Most famous actresses want to bury their youthful modeling pics due to some scandalous nudity that might negatively affect their career. Christina Hendrick’s Playboy photos, on the other hand, show the actress still clothed…but feet away from a terrifying clown. Which are more embarrassing now? Either way, there is no element of these pictures we do not find disturbing.
The pictures popped up on Playboy’s Twitter, taken during a 1999 photoshoot for an article on shooters of the alcohol variety, which we imagine Christina had to drink a lot of in order to agree to this albino triplet look. Though she definitely looks good in her painfully ’90s silver bikini, where exactly are Christina Hendrick’s famous curves? Goes to show that some people really can gain 30 lbs and look better after the fact. That’s what we’re telling ourselves, anyway.

From 1995’s Clueless to I Love You, Man, out this Friday, Paul Rudd has been one of the cutest actors in Hollywood. Whether clean shaven or bushy-bearded, he’s a funny, charming guy. So it took some effort to find a look that didn’t flatter and—well, let’s just say we’re glad he never got a role on Deadwood. This stylized goatee from 1999 might even be worse than the soul patch he wore to the Object Of My Affection premiere a year earlier. Judge for yourself in the gallery below.
