Uh-oh. Poor Amanda Bynes. Just when she thought her car troubles were behind her, an old case has come back to bite her in the behind. By now, all of us have realized that Amanda and driving are not a good match. Her spiral started when she was arrested for a DUI back in April, where she was not only arrested for driving under the influence, but for side-swiping a cop car, for good measure. You would think that would have knocked some sense into her, but no. She was photographed texting while driving out of the Chateau Marmont just a few days after her DUI incident. And because she wasn’t paying much attention to the road, she also ran over the sidewalk. The only person who didn’t realize she was going a tad off the rails was Amanda herself, as she ended up tweeting Barack Obama about her … innocence. That’s right, she tweeted the POTUS, saying, “Hey @BarackObama… I don’t drink. Please fire the cop who arrested me. I also don’t hit and run. The end.” Only, it wasn’t the end, because the actress was involved in a hit-and-run case the very same month. Amanda’s rental car rear-ended another vehicle while she was driving through the San Fernando Valley, but the other driver claimed that the accident was caused because of Bynes’ messed-up driving. Another hit-and-run incident followed this month, BTW, and it ended up being Amanda’s (possible) downfall.
The San Fernando Valley accident’s case is now being re-opened, reports TMZ. The case was originally dropped as there was no witness to back-up the fact that Amanda had indeed fled the scene and zoomed off on the 101 Freeway, as the other driver had stated. But now, this second hit-and-run in August has changed all of that. Prosecutors have decided that there are too many red marks on her driving record to let slide and are going to investigate more. Which means, big trouble could be coming Amanda’s way very soon. Let’s hope she doesn’t decide to drive away from it all.
As much as I loved Forgetting Sarah Marshall, it is my strongly biased opinion that no movie Kristen Bell has made to date (well, I haven’t seen Hit and Run yet) will ever be as good as Veronica Mars or her still-squee-inducing sloth home video. But every time the bubbly actress makes an appearance on TV, she steals the show. Case in point: last night’s Tonight Show, in which she absolutely charmed with tales of how she used to get out of traffic tickets and used to have a car named “The Slut,” and then followed that up by sitting next to second guest Ryan Lochte and enhancing his interview. We’ve lovingly poked fun at Lochte’s great interview skills, and if he’d appeared by himself with Jay Leno, things might have gone just the same as they have in every sitdown he’s had since before the Olympics (he pees in the pool, he’s friends with Michael Phelps, he’ll consider the Bachelor but is more excited about Dancing With the Stars). But with Kristen there, everything was fresh and lively again.
After Bell tried on Lochte’s medals — because they matched her dress perfectly — she wasn’t content to sit back and let him deliver the same old answers. He explained why it was OK with him to race twice in the same day with only 27 minutes of rest, Kristen raised her hand to ask, “Twenty-seven minutes of rest as in between the races or 27 minutes of sleep? … Between the races. It’s just as bad. I don’t know why I even asked the question. Both are horrendous options. Could you even catch your breath in that amount of time?” Read more…
Sure, we’re into weepy deathbed monologues, blood-squirting massacres and the occasional merman scene or two (#CabinInTheWoods4ever), but what we really love to see on the big screen is, well, love. Lucky for us, the summer movie season is always packed with romance, whether it be of the action or indie variety. Not that we’re picky — we eat it all up, thank you very much.
This summer’s crop of movies offers up a buffet of romantic relationships sure to suit even the most critical of tastes. At the core of The Amazing Spider-Man is the romance between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, played by real-life loves Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. And of course what would a comedy about rippling male strippers (Magic Mike) be without a love story between the beefy protagonist (Channing Tatum) and his protegee’s sister (newcomer Cody Horn)?
But equally intriguing are the more unconventional relationships coming to the big screen as the weather warms up. Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg play that perfect couple everyone loves in Celeste & Jesse Forever, who shock their friends when they decide to divorce. In Savages, Taylor Kitsch andAaron Johnson play two dudes who band together to rescue their kidnapped girlfriend (Blake Lively). That’s right – they both date her. But the onscreen pairing we’re most pumped for? Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward in Wes Anderson‘s Moonrise Kingdom, in which they play two tweens who fall in love and plot – and execute – their escape from their small New England town.
There’s movie love for everyone out there, so what’s your favorite onscreen pairing this season? Poll it up below!
