One of the first images we saw this morning was the above one, of Britney Spears looking rather cheerful as she double-fists caffeinated drinks in L.A. and wears her belief in “Love” on her chest. And then we read this story from Radar, which makes us shiver: When now-ex-fiance Jason Trawick wanted out of the relationship, he went to Britney’s dad and co-conservator, Jamie Spears, before breaking the news to her, according to the gossip site. This is horrifying on so many levels. First, is Britney’s mental health still so fragile? The alternative is that she’s fine, but her dad and ex are a little too enamored of this medieval patriarchal system that Brit’s conservatorship has set up, and they feel it’s their right to control her love life behind her back.
This quote from Radar’s source makes it seem like the former, and it makes us rather scared for her: “Jason and Jamie wanted to make sure that Britney didn’t lose it, so they had to water things down for her a bit. She knows that the engagement is off and that Jason has been removed from the conservatorship, but she still hasn’t exactly grasped yet that the relationship is totally over.”
Britney Spears and her talent agent turned fiance/conservator have split up, her rep confirmed to People this evening.
“Jason and I have decided to call off our engagement,” Spears said in a statement. “I’ll always adore him and we will remain great friends.”
According to TMZ, the former couple postponed the announcement until Trawick was taken off the conservatorship — which we always thought was the most awkward, weirdly paternal part of their relationship. The two began dating in 2009 and got engaged a little over a year ago, in December 2011. Read more…
Around the same time that the NBC stars were celebrating their new fall lineup, Fox’s Upfront presentation for advertisers was also happening in NYC. Both channels brought in their bigtime stars, but we feel Fox may just have inched ahead. This was also, in part, because of the news we published yesterday that Britney Spears and Demi Lovato were officially named as the newest judges on The X Factor.
But they were, by no means, not the only stars who came to the presentation. Fellow The X Factor judges Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid were also there. A ton of the Glee cast showed up as well. Lea Michele led the way in a lovely, delicate Pucci dress with Casadei shoes and Lorraine Schwartz jewels. Naya Rivera wore the one mullet dress we’ve ever liked, a Lublu number that she paired with Giuseppe Zanotti shoes. Jenna Ushkowitz wore a summery Rebecca Minkoff design, completing the trio of ladies from the show. Cory Monteith, Chris Colfer and Darren Criss represented the show’s dudes. New Girl star Zooey Deschanel was also there in a Carven dress and Miu Miu heels, as was her co-star Hannah Simone. And surprise surprise, a casually dressed Mila Kunis came for the event as well. Take a look at all of them, in the gallery below.

We’ve had a couple weeks to digest the fact that Britney Spears‘ fiance Jason Trawick has been tapped as her co-conservator alongside her dad, Jamie. And even now that it’s all official on paper, we still don’t feel totally at ease with the whole thing. But star therapist Dr. Jenn Berman of VH1‘s Couples Therapy has been trying hard to convince us that it’s actually a good thing. “Other people looking out for her seems to have really worked well for her, Jenn recently told us. “It helped her in her healing and well-being. It seems like it’s what she needs.”
The singer has been under conservator-ship since her very public (and very scary) meltdown in early 2008, and for all we know it may have saved her life. Yet still, the whole thing sort of creeps us out. We just don’t like the idea of a grown woman’s husband being granted legal control over her food, heath-care and style choices. Plus, Britney and Jason aren’t even married yet! Not to mention the fact that he’s her agent. What kind of legal firestorm would occur if they split up? “This is a very unusual situation, because generally you don’t see conservatees get married,” LA probate attorney Jeffrey Cohen told People magazine.
On the upside, Judge Reva Goetz admitted at Britney’s conservatorship hearing that he was “impressed” with her progress. So perhaps in the near future Brit can successfully petition to have Jason demoted to just plain old “husband/agent.” But until that day comes, Britney and Jason will top our list of the most unsettling couples in show biz. Check out the rest in the gallery below!

Are we doing this or not, girl? We’ve been hearing rumors about Britney Spears’ X-Factor gig since the end of February…and approximately every 45 minutes since. According to E! News, however, our wait is finally over, with BritBrit signing on to the tune of $15 million, a package deal that also snags her fiance Jason Trawick a spot as producer on the show. “Both camps were back and forth on the money but now they have finally come to agreement on the fee,” their insider claims. “That was the big sticking point and now, thankfully, it’s been sorted. All they need to do now is work out the smaller points.” Wait, there are smaller points to be worked out after someone pays you $15 million and gives your husband a job? What, like which chair you get? Get that money and run, girl!
Meanwhile, a source reporting to Us Weekly claims Britney Spears will be signed on for $16 million. Is that what it’s going to take? A million more? Considering Beyonce was rumored to be joining for $100 million a season, we say Simon Cowell is getting a serious bargain. JLo is going to be so pissed, seeing as how she’s allegedly only making $12 million to judge AI. Plus, you know she probably took whatever chair they gave her!

Creepy. Chauvinist. Medieval. Those were the words that first popped into our head when we learned of the fact that Britney Spears’ father, Jamie Spears, petitioned the L.A. Supreme court to make her fiance, Jason Trawick, a co-conservator over Britney. According to People, Trawick (who is also her agent) would share control over her “well-being” — her food, clothing and medical care — but her finances would still be entirely in Jamie’s hands. This sounds so very 50 Shades of Grey to us. But we called up someone who knows a thing or two about relationships, and celebrity relationships, Dr. Jenn Berman, the therapist star of VH1’s Couple’s Therapy, to give us a better sense of what this means for the engaged couple.
“It definitely creates a shift in power where her parents and her soon-to-be husband will hold a lot of power, and that can create conflict in the relationship,” she told us. “That said it sounds like it’s the right decision. Other people looking out for her seems to have really worked well for her. It helped her in her healing and well-being.”
Oh. Wait. So this is a good thing? Well, come to think of it, since the conservatorship was put in place, Britney has put out two massively successful albums and performed around the world with nary a head-shaving or hospitalization or other scary incident.
We’ve been hearing for a while that Britney Spears was a contender to fill one of the X Factor judges’ seats vacated by Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul, but now The Hollywood Reporter says a contract could be signed as early as next week. The deal is being negotiated by her fiance/agent Jason Trawick, the site says. She’s undergoing extensive media training for the gig, per THR, but we hope not too much, since it would certainly be more entertaining to see an uncensored Brit-Brit on live TV every week than a well-trained one. “There’s going to be a lot of twists and turns over the next few weeks and a lot of things we’re going to announce,” Cowell said in a recent conference call with reporters. One other change the show will undergo when it returns this summer is that two hosts will replace Steve Jones to create a “different kind of chemistry” on the show.
We’re not going to lie: even now some part of our lizard brain recoils from Kevin Federline. It’s not entirely our fault! Remember “Popozao”? Remember Britney’s unpleasantness with the umbrella? Even four years and a half years after their divorce, our minds have a hard time wrapping themselves around the fact that KFed is…is…is actually a nice guy! “I’m really happy for her,” Kevin told Australia’s TV Week about Britney Spears’ engagement to Jason Trawick. “She’s happy; she’s doing really well. I want to say she’s in a good place.” About Trawick himself, Federline adds, “I’ve spoken to him quite a few times as of now. He seems like a really good guy. The kids speak highly of him [and] her family loves him.” But…those Frappacinos years! Defenses…weakening. Hatred for KFed…dissipating.
Federline, who is currently shooting the celeb weight loss show Excess Baggage Down Under, is currently canoodling with girlfriend Victoria Prince, with whom he had baby Jordan Key in August. “She’s more than I could ever have hoped for,” Kevin said of his lady love. “Hopefully Britney feels the same way.” Oh wow, that is sweet. Hmm, now if only we could figure out what would get us past his egregious performance of “Lost Control” at Teen Choice Awards in 2006? Oh right…KFed’s also a good father to their sons Jayden James and Sean Preston. Wow, it feels good to let go.
Britney Spears is engaged, y’all! Somewhere, K-Fed wipes away a single tear … with a Subway meatball footlong. People has confirmed the rumors that have been swirling since yesterday: Spears and boyfriend Jason Trawick are locking it down. Britney and her husband-to-be Jason allegedly pledged their eternal devotion to each other last night in L.A. while celebrating Trawick’s birthday. “OMG. Last night Jason surprised me with the one gift I’ve been waiting for. Can’t wait to show you! SO SO SO excited!!!! Xxo,” Britney teased earlier today on Twitter. Meanwhile, Spears’ other husband Jason Alexander is probably … Oh, who cares? BritBrit’s getting hitched! Breakout the bridesmaids tracksuits!
The two have been dating since 2009, and this past March, Spears paid Trawick what is probably the highest complement Britney can give a man she’s dating: While visiting Ryan Seacrest‘s show, she referred to their relationship as “really normal.†Hey, as long as Jason doesn’t start recording a remix of “Popozao” or profess his affections only in front of an Elvis impersonator, they have our blessings.
If TMZ‘s reports are correct, then pop the champagne, because Britney Spears is getting engaged to boyfriend Jason Tracwick. You heard correctly — getting. The site reports that multiple close sources claim that Jason is going to get down on bended knee and asking Brit-Brit to marry him … tonight! Those high pitched sounds you hear are of us squeeing. Apparently, the singer already knows about the plan, set to go down in Las Vegas. Which was also the site of her incredibly short marriage to Jason Alexander, if memory serves correctly. If this story is true, then things really do come full circle!
Sources also told the site that her conservators are in the know and have already approved of them getting married. As per their information, Jason asked Britney’s father for her hand in marriage. And here’s how this is really a modern day fairy tale: There will be a prenup, of course. Looks like we’ll have to keep our eyes and ears peeled to see if it really does unfold tonight. If it does, then can we be the first to say congratulations, guys!
