Russell Simmons: “I Wish Kanye Hadn’t Apologized To George Bush”

rnrnRussell Simmons is, of course, a legend in the world of hip-hop, thanks to his role as co-founder of arguably the most influential record label of its era, Def Jam Recordings. Although he sold his stake of the label he founded to Universal back in the late nineties, he has gone on to even greater heights as a philanthropist and CEO of Rush Communications. We grabbed a few minutes with the media mogul after his interview on Jump Start Live the other day, and he was cool enough to answer a few questions about his new book, Super Rich: A Guide To Having It All, the “cool s***” that comes out of his old buddy Rick Rubin’s mouth, and what he thinks of Kanye West’s new record.rnrn”He’s very, very brilliant, one of the best artists we have in hip-hop,” Simmons said about Yeezy. But, “I wish he hadn’t apologized to [President George W. Bush] … I think what he said was an important statement, artists get to say what’s on their mind. And when they’re commercial artists, what’s on their mind really resonates with lots of people … These ideas are ones that are sometimes thought about but never said.”rn Read more…

Could The New Jersey Shore Cast Member Out-Snooki Snooki?

When Jersey Shore’s Sammi said her new cast member Deena Cortese was “exactly like Snooki,” she was not joking around. In fact, the clips we’ve seen so far made us sort of worried that Deena, Snooki’s friend IRL, might be so Snickerfied that our girl Snooki’s original spark could be lost under twice the amount of bronzer. As the Jersey Shore season premiere nears, we couldn’t help but note that the Jersey stars similarities include:

  • Approximately Cabbage Patch Doll-height in inches
  • Color of tan best described as “Well-Used Basketball”
  • Deena is as smush-crazy as Snooki, if not more so. As Deena explained to Life & Style, “The most guys I’ve hooked up with in one night is probably three,” the use of the word “probably” implying to us that she might not exactly know what her highest number is. “People consider me a man-eater. I don’t really like dating, though. Dates can be so awkward!”
  • Deena has already showed “her goods” to The Situation, as she explained to VH1.com this morning, further following in Snooki’s footsteps. Well, and the footsteps of every girl on the Eastern Seaboard.

Introducing Carrie Keagan, Host Of VH1′s Jump Start Live

If you are a loyal viewer of morning video show Jump Start, you may have noticed something different happening from 10-11 a.m. each of the last three mornings. Instead of running a steady stream of music videos like we normally do, we just started airing a live morning show called Jump Start Live, hosted by Carrie Keagan. The hour-long show is chock full of celebrity interviews, saucy gossip, and features a healthy dose of expert commentary on the goings-on in the world of pop culture. There will be a brand new show every weekday morning from now until the Critics Choice Movie Awards, which are being broadcast live on VH1 on Friday, January 14 at 9pm.

If you haven’t watched the show yet, be sure to tune in to Jump Start Live tomorrow morning to see guests Reeve & Zane Carney (from Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark), followed by Josh Groban, whose musical spin on Kanye West’s tweets has quickly gone viral.

Until then, get yourself acquainted with Jump Start Live‘s host, Carrie Keagan. If she looks familiar, it’s probably because she hosted our red carpet festivities for the Critics’ Choice awards in both 2008 and 2009. You might also recognize her from numerous panel appearances on shows like Attack of the Show, Red Eye, and Chelsea Lately. And while we know that all of you read Playboy for the articles, you might also remember that Carrie was featured as the magazine’s Babe Of The Month back in July of 2008. In the video above, we get Carrie’s take on Hugh Hefner’s recent engagement, which celebs have behaved badly on the red carpet with her and much, much more!
