McKayla Maroney, Gabby Douglas, Kyla Ross Prepare To Unleash Their Fierceness On The VMAs

Forget the meme, McKayla Maroney expects to be very impressed with the VMAs tomorrow night. The whole Fierce Five U.S. women’s gymnastics team is set to present an award at the show, and things got just a little bit more exciting for them at a press conference for the event last night. Gabby Douglas announced that one of her faves, Lil’ Wayne, would be performing, and Kyla Ross announced that Katy Perry would be presenting the Best Pop Video Moonman. Afterwards, they told MTV News whom they’re most psyched to meet.

“For me it would definitely be Lil Wayne because I’ve always listened to him and he puts together these amazing lyrics and he’s just awesome,” Douglas said.

“For me, probably Miley Cyrus,” Maroney answered. “I’m very excited to meet her. I’ve been watching her on TV since I was very little and I love her music, and I’m just super-excited to get to even meet her.”

“I definitely want to meet One Direction,” Ross added, echoing many a teenage girl’s wish this year. “I’ve been listening to their music for a while, so it will be very exciting to hopefully meet them.”

Of course, they’re also hoping to give a Moonman to one of their most high-profile supporters. “I’d probably like to present to Justin Bieber,” Maroney said. “Let’s be honest.”

U.S. Women’s Gymnastics Team Will Bring Gold-Medal Cuteness To The MTV VMAs

Kyla Ross, Gabby Douglas, McKayla Maroney, Aly Raisman and Jordyn Wieber

They’ve won a gold medal and some change, had their images printed on cereal boxes, been interviewed on every talk show from Letterman to Oprah’s Next Chapter, rung the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange and made dozens of other glamorous public appearances — what’s left for the U.S. women’s gymnastics team to do? How about something that’s a little more appropriate for their own teenage demo? McKayla Maroney, Gabby Douglas, Jordyn Wieber, Aly Raisman and Kyla Ross are going to be presenters at the MTV Video Music Awards, MTV News announced this morning.

We love that this means the Fierce Five will be extending their fame into next month (the VMAs are on Thursday, September 6, at 8 p.m. ET/PT). Also, we can only imagine all the great encounters they’ll have with the likes of fellow presenters Wiz Khalifa and Miley Cyrus, and just-announced performer Taylor Swift. I’ve got $20 bucks says they’ll do their best “Not Impressed” poses while meeting some of those pop stars. Maybe this can happen too.

The U.S. Women’s Gymnastics Team Wins The Gold Medal — In London And On Twitter

U.S. Women's Gymnastics team wins gold
The U.S. women’s gymnastics team has made us pretty damn proud to be Americans today. Sorry, the entire Internet spoiled what won’t air on TV until tonight, but spoiled it with amazing news! You can now officially jump for joy because the Fab Five have just won the gold medal in the gymnastics team final! This triumph marks the first time that the U.S. gymnasts will take home the team gold since the “Magnificent Seven” won in Atlanta’s 1996 Olympics. With impressive floor performances given by Jordyn Wieber, Gabby Douglas and Aly Raisman, the team beat out both Russia and Romania with an overall score of 183.596. (Woo!!!)

To celebrate the team’s gold medal and give ourselves a little background on what winners look (and act) like, we have put together some of the best Olympic photos and tweets from these fabulous girls. Take a look and get ready to be stunned. Seriously, some of the positions they get themselves in are pretty unbelievable and make us realize just how uncoordinated and inflexible we are. If their moves aren’t enough to make you fall in love with them, these gymnasts’ fun, charming sides surely will.

Way to go, Fab Five! GO TEAM USA!
