Allure is essentially a beauty magazine, so we can’t understand how they came up with this? They have Kate Beckinsale on their August cover, who is gorgeous. They also have access to the best products and makeup stylists, so no excuses again. How is it that they made such a lovely woman look so bland? We’re not saying they should have put her in teal eyeliner and fuchsia lips, but the combination of the dark brows, non-descript eyes and nude lips is just completely blah. And that smile looks forced. Somebody give the woman a tube of lip gloss, please? Luckily, some of the shots inside make up for the cover, and Kate also compensates by jumping off the page with her personality. She has a laugh about herself, especially with regard to her upcoming film, Total Recall, saying, “It’s an odd trajectory, I’ll give you that. If you’d asked me when I was at Oxford, ‘Do you think you’ll ever be running up and down holding a machine gun as a bad guy in a big American movie?’ I would have said, ‘God, no!'” Which also subtly reminds the ready that this beauty has brains thanks to the Oxford name-drop.
The laughs continue with her talking about her training regime, which we’re guessing also applies for the Underworld series. “On the first day, they took me out and said, ‘We just want to kind of get a sense of where you’re at. So let’s just see how you run,'” she says. “They had me run across the parking lot. I ran like a girl, with my arms up, so that had to be knocked out of me. Then it was ‘All right, let’s see you throw a punch.’ I did, and therefore earned myself a couple months of boxing training.” Badass, beautiful and brainy — this woman deserved a better cover, Allure peeps! It’s not particularly … alluring.

Considering this story comes hot on the heels of ESPN‘s body issue, posted yesterday, and Scarlett Johansson in a bikini, published today, our self-esteem is hitting an all-time low. Michael Phelps in on the cover of Details magazine’s August issue, and he is looking slamming! He’s giving his buddy, fellow Olympic swimmer and mega hottie Ryan Lochte some serious competition, and not just in the water, if you know what we mean. The article also deals with that marijuana issue that threatened to derail Phelps’ career three years ago. Of what went down, Michael says, “It was a learning experience. I’m the kind of person who has to go through the learning experiences myself. Somebody could tell me, ‘If you eat this much you’ll be fat,’ and I’d be like, ‘Yeah, okay, let me try it.’ Growing up, my mom taught us to make our own decisions, but also that you have to pay for the consequences of those decisions. I’m thankful for that. I’ll be the first to say I’ve made thousands of mistakes, but I’ve never made the same mistake twice.”
He also talks about how he picked himself up after the enormous backlash that hit him after the picture went public. “I realized that I probably hadn’t reached my full potential. There was still more in the tank,” he says, adding. “As I come to closure on my career, am I going to look back in 20 years and say, ‘What if?’ That’s something I don’t want. This is it. I’ve always said I wouldn’t swim past 30. I don’t want to be that guy who’s hanging on, but I want to reach my max potential. I don’t care how much pain I have to go through or the sacrifices I have to make. I’ll get it.” A little more than two weeks to go for the Olympics. We wish him luck!

Are we going to see any covers that don’t have Emma Stone on them in the next few months? Because she’s just everywhere lately. Not that we’re complainingg. We love her and her sartorial sense so much that we compiled an entire of all Emma’s looks from The Amazing Spider-Man premieres across the globe. She’s also clearly become Vogue‘s darling. Emma was featured, looking stunningly sexy and wide-eyed on the July cover of the U.S edition of the magazine wearing a coffee colored Nina Ricci dress with black lace accents. Ms. Stone’s eyes are amazing, as well — a pale, clear jade. Which have now been turned into a aqua for her latest Vogue U.K August cover. She’s now literally their blue-eyed girl. Contacts, or Photoshop? It’s an edgy cover shot by the legendary Patrick Demarchelier. We love the black Max Mara newsboy cap lowered seductively over the eyes, and it goes perfectly with the black-and-white houndstooth jumper, also by the brand. The interview has been conducted by Brit style maven Alexa Chung and according to the mag, Emma’s discussing, “sex scenes, suffering from anxiety and the problems with fame.” The inside spread is pretty spectacular too — we’re loving the slightly retro tone and is that a quote by Taylor Swift we see in the last scan?

We weren’t kidding when we said fierce. We all know that Jwoww has a dragon tattoo on her torso (you can see it in the picture on the left), but now she’s got something new to complement it. She’s stripped down for a new spread in Inked magazine to show off her new skin art — a huge tiger on her thigh, which is visible in the photograph on the right. That is, if you can even focus on it. It’s a little hard with the Jersey Shore star hitting those classic pinup shots in next to nothing while washing a pink Cadillac. And we haven’t missed the hot pink tips in her hair, too.
She’s also talking about her tattoos, and explaining what they mean to her, saying, “My dragon and tiger were both designed by my college advisor, Jon Squid. He was an art student but he’s also been tattooing for 10 years. He’s at Twin Moon Tattoo in Queens, New York. The dragon is something I have wanted since I was a kid. I drew one when I was 12 or 13, showed my dad, and told him that I wanted it tattooed on me. He told me to wait 10 years. Growing up I was always doodling dragons, and I waited until I was 21 to get the dragon. Then I wanted something on the other side of my body to complement the dragon, and Squid told me that the dragon and tiger symbolize good versus evil, like a yin and yang.” That’s why they’re also on different sides of her body, as she added, “Yes, and placement for me is big because I want to be able to show my tattoos off when I want to, and I want to be able to cover them when I don’t want to show them.” We haven’t seen Jenni covered up in sometime, so we’ll take her word for it. What do you think of her new tattoo? Inspiring? Or, not so much?

You got to love a girl who can talk about poop, as Mila Kunis does, and is able to look that good most of her waking time on this planet. Hell, she probably looks that good asleep! And while we’ve all seen plenty of pictures of her roaming the street looking damningly awesome in jeans and no makeup, you can’t beat a fully styled Mila. She’s on the cover of Elle UK‘s August issue wearing a plunging Dior embroidered gown. Check out that sloe-eyed, come hither stare! The cover was shot by Doug Inglish in L.A and the woman actually had the gall to discuss the fact that she’s “not good at sexy.” This cover begs to differ. Mila also talks about all the rumors swirling around her and Ashton Kutcher as well as past buzz with Justin Timberlake. Speaking of which, that cover line, “Casual Sex Is Back, Can You Handle It?” totally feels like a nod to her movie with Timberlake, Friends With Benefits. Mila also discusses the fact that the Olsen twins line, “The Row” is far too pricey. We agree. A backpack for $35,000? Come on. Wait … do you think Mila secretly has one?

How are we feeling about this July Allure cover of Anne Hathaway? We actually find the photographs inside the magazine — like the one we have on the right — far sexier than the picture chosen for the face of the magazine. We’re fans of the thick cat-eye eyeliner, the tousled hair, the strong eyebrows, as well as the black Alexander Wang top she has on. The cover itself has much of the same makeup, but she isn’t selling it. The expression — which we think was supposed to be a soft, serene smile — looks flat. But it’s nice to see her long hair again, since Anne has been sporting a buzz cut for her Les Miserables role of late.
She’s dishing on her various film roles in the cover story, which is interesting to read. Of her unforgiving latex suit for her portrayal as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises, the actress moans, “[It was] a psychological terrorist… the suit, thoughts of my suit, changing my life so I would fit into that suit… it dominated my year. I went into the gym for ten months and didn’t come out.” Add to that, her crazy regime for Les Miserables, and you have one very … hungry woman. She explains, “I’m doing some crazy weight stuff right now… I’m on day six of detox … this diet makes me break out, so I love that. Nothing like living on hummus and radishes and then being all like ‘And I got a pimple’ Yeah.” The things people do for art, huh? We couldn’t. And we’re not putting down this Snickers bar, either.

We didn’t think that anyone would be able to top Kristen Stewart on the cover of Vanity Fair‘s July issue in the glam stakes. But this inside spread of Elizabeth Banks as the original glam girl — Marilyn Monroe — could give Ms. Stewart a run for her money. Banks does a fantastic job in recreating Monroe. Kudos to the makeup, hair and styling teams because the looks are spot-on. The reason for the homage is because the actress is going to be reading out Monroe’s letters in the upcoming documentary Thoughts from Fragments.
Banks also chats a little bit about her career with the magazine. Of her character, Wendy, the perky breast-feeding expert, in What To Expect When You’re Expecting, she says, “I knew where all the jokes were with Wendy. She was breezy to play.” She considers romantic comedy to be her strong suit and reckons that her career started “at the exact wrong time” in 2001, as the genre took a nose-dive that year. Luckily enough, that means she’s had the chance to act across the board and explore different characters instead. “I’ve put in a lot of time, but because I’ve worked in so many different genres and with so many different types of people, I’ve managed to stay a little bit fresh and a little new, which is rare when you’re in your 30s,” she reveals. We concur. Banks is always a treat to watch!

We’re always happy when we see Christina Hendricks on the cover of a magazine. More, we say! She is, in our opinion, one of the sexiest women on the planet. You know who else agrees with us? Esquire who named Christina their “best-looking woman in America” in 2010. The Hollywood Reporter is on board as well, putting the lovely actress on their cover this week. We love the fact that they’ve been shining the spotlight on strong, female actors recently. Remember the cover with all the TV actresses last week? This is the perfect time to have Christina — who looks starkly beautiful in a low-cut, long-sleeved black dress — on the face of the magazine as well. Have you been watching Mad Men recently? Without giving anything away, our jaws have been hitting the floor, especially with the last two episodes.
Don’t read the piece if you haven’t watched, because the first paragraph itself has a major spoiler. But, the main body of the article is broader deals with everything about her role as Joan Holloway on the show and her castmate’s opinions about her — as a character and as a woman. “I thought Joan was such a bitch, and I struggled sometimes trying to make her as real as possible because I thought, who would be so mean?” says Christina. John Slattery, who plays Roger Sterling, provides another opinion. “People want to think because of how stunning she is that she’s just this torpedo, but she’s way more complicated than that, ” he says, adding, “My first scene was walking in with Don Draper at the end of a scene in which she’s telling Peggy to, ‘Go home, take a paper bag, tear out two eye holes and put it over your head.’ I didn’t know what I was getting myself into until I saw her. It was that scene that kind of woke me up to the potential for this whole thing.” Now, watch the episodes if you haven’t already so we can discuss more!

We can’t stop staring at this photograph of Kristen Stewart on the cover of Vanity Fair‘s July issue. It positively drips glamor! And it’s not like we’ve been starved of gorgeous K.Stew images around these parts. She’s been covering every possible magazine for the last couple of months, and each new one has been a completely different, awesome, look. Remember the recent Interview stunner with Charlize Theron? Or the chic drag shots in Elle? Let’s not forget how louche and sexy the Jalouse cover with Garrett Hedlund was, as well. But this one for Vanity Fair, we reckon, is in a league of its own. More so, because of the interview, which has a fair share of fighting words from the actress.
“I have been criticized a lot for not looking perfect in every photograph. I get some serious sh— about it. I’m not embarrassed about it. I’m proud of it. If I took perfect pictures all the time, the people standing in the room with me, or on the carpet, would think, What an actress! What a faker!” Kristen says, adding, “That thought embarrasses me so much that I look like sh— in half my photos, and I don’t give a f—. What matters to me is that the people in the room leave and say, ‘She was cool. She had a good time. She was honest.’ I don’t care about the voracious, starving s— eaters who want to turn truth into sh—. Not that you can say that in Vanity Fair!” She did say it in Vanity Fair and we’re applauding her for saying it.

This is quite a cover. We have Claire Danes, Mireille Enos, January Jones, Julianna Margulies, Emmy Rossum and Kyra Sedgwick looking so incredibly elegant on next month’s The Hollywood Reporter. That’s Homeland, The Killing, Mad Men, The Good Wife, Shameless and The Closer repped respectively. Talk about your power television sextet. We know these lovely ladies all do films as well, but the TV angle is the one that smacks you in the face. The interview — or round table discussion — has everything from Jones discussing “Fat Betty” to Rossum talking nude scenes to Enos talking about kissing Brad Pitt. That last bit especially caught our attention, with the actress admitting, “Is it wrong to admit that having to kiss Brad Pitt was very, very terrifying? It was on World War Z, which I shot last summer and it was the second day of shooting.” We’d take her place anytime.
We actually laughed out loud at January’s description of the moment she first saw the heavier version of her Mad Men character onscreen. “I saw it on the air, paused it and went screaming into the other room,” she jokes. And where else are you going to get Emmy saying, with regard to her nude scenes, “But originally, when they made the contract it was like, “You will show partial side boob, you will show two cheeks …” Julianna chimed in with, “Those contracts are always so funny.” Read the full interview here to get your fix, because it gets much funnier.
