Jessica Simpson is pregnant again, according to an unnamed source who revealed the news exclusively to Us Weekly. The singer/designer/TV host’s rep, on the other hand, is completely mum on the news. So should we believe that she’s expecting, just under seven months after giving birth to Maxwell Drew? Given how secretive JSimps was about her first pregnancy, not saying a thing even long after her bump was visible, she could be. But we also think it’s really crappy of someone else to leak this story to the world (probably for some good cash), before Jessica and fiance Eric Johnson were ready to do so.
First of all, we suspect the pregnancy was a surprise to them. A little medical background (if you don’t like knowing how women’s bodies work do not read this paragraph): Maxwell was born in May. If Jessica waited the customary 12 weeks to tell her family of the good news, she conceived this new kid just three months after giving birth. Most doctors actually recommend waiting a year before having another child, to allow your body to recover. But if Jessica was breastfeeding baby Maxwell, her chances of conceiving were super low — though not unheard of — and it’s really hard to tell whether or not you’re pregnant right after having a baby, because your cycle is all out of whack. Based on all of this knowledge, we understand why the new parents would want to reveal the sensitive news on their own timeline.
I don’t know how to be objective about this subject, guys, so bear with me. Jessica Simpson appeared on the premiere of Katie Couric’s Katie today to show off her post-baby body. And to plug Weight Watchers, which she’s being paid a reported $3 million to do. As a four-months pregnant lady, I (predictably) have way too many emotions attached to this appearance. Let me classify them for you:
1) Defensive: I can’t believe how much the press has been hounding Jessica — since even before she announced her pregnancy — about gaining weight during her pregnancy. This was the Mom Jeans Incident of 2009 to the 1000th degree. This woman is a super successful fashion mogul now, not your personal fitness icon, leave her alone. I gained weight basically the instant I peed on a stick, and yeah, sometimes when I see those ladies who only look pregnant from the side, I want to crawl into a hole, but then I think about the fact that I can put aside vanity and think about someone else’s health for the first time in my life.
“I let myself indulge in everything I wanted because it was the first time I was ever pregnant, and I wanted to enjoy it,” Simpson told USA Today last week. “I wanted to be happy and eat what I wanted.” I hope the gossip world feels some shame in wanting to take away a woman’s desire to be happy.
2) Fascinated: At the same time, I have watched Jessica’s body grow with every photo, and just like everyone else, thought for one guilty moment, that there was no way she just had one baby in there. She’s my height, 5’4″, and weighed 170 lbs when she was pregnant with little Maxwell Drew. And her main indulgence is the exact same as my own: macaroni and cheese. I eat it for desert now, people. But today on Katie she also admitted that she did zero exercise during her pregnancy. When she signed onto Weight Watchers, she could barely do 800 steps a day. And she admits to a bit of magical (very Nick and Jessica-era JSimps) thinking when it comes to losing the pounds.
We’ve been fawning over Jessica Simpson‘s baby daughter Maxwell Drew ever since she was born two and a half months ago. We got our first proper look at her when Jessica posed with her for People at the end of May, and it was super adorable because the baby girl was fast asleep. A superstar at a month old already! She doesn’t even have to be awake to look stylin’. Anywho, the last look we got at Mamma Simpson was just two days ago, when she tweeted a a rather TMI photograph of her massive post-partum cleavage. But that’s Jessica’s style, innit? Today’s dose is a lot more wholesome, we promise. The singer posted the cutest picture ever of her daughter, simply tweeting, “Howdy friends.” The photographs features a close-up of Drew — you can see it on the left in the picture above — staring straight at the camera with her big eyes. We love her little rosebud pout and those plump cheeks. J.Simp did real good!

Jessica Simpson’s New Baby Covers Her First Magazine, And She’s A Beauty
Jessica Simpson Gives Birth To Maxwell Drew — Finally!
After our obsession over what seemed the forever long pregnancy of Jessica Simpson, the first photos of baby Maxwell Drew are in this week’s issue of People! And sleeping beauty (the baby’s literally sleeping on the cover) is an adorable princess whose full cheeks are to die for. Baby Maxwell is so precious her mom was alleged paid $800,000 for her first baby pics. How’s that for being a celeb’s kid. Jessica Simpson and fiance Eric Johnson welcomed their first child into the world on May 1 weighing 9 lbs, 13 oz. We instantly pondered if she’d look like her blonde girl-next-door mom, or her dark haired football playing daddy. It’s too early to tell but we think she is the cutest thing ever. Read more…
Though she failed to cash in on the news that she was pregnant last fall (probably ’cause her bump revealed itself too early), it seems Jessica Simpson has found other ways to fund little Maxwell Drew’s shoe fund. According to WWD, People magazine will pay her $800,000 for the first pics of her daughter with fiance Eric Johnson. That’s not quite the millions celebs like Matthew McConaughey and Brangelina have made recently, but it’s still a nice chunk of change. Especially considering the fact that many famous parents, like Jay-Z and Beyonce, have been going the (classier?) route of posting the pics on Twitter and Tumblr for free. JSimps is also going to make a reported $4 million on a “weightloss deal” when she loses those baby pounds, according Us Weekly.
For all her Chicken of the Sea quotes, Jessica never ceases to amaze us with her business savvy. She’s never been a remarkable singer and her acting career fizzled quickly. And yet through reality TV, her still-growing fashion empire and our endless fascination with her, she is wildly successful and never far from the public eye. Already, it looks like little Maxwell’s got a chance to follow in her footsteps. You go, Mama!

As you book your brunches, scramble to order flowers, pick out the perfect card and all those other things you have to do before Mother’s Day this Sunday, we had a little revelation: Maybe our moms should be thanking US for a change.* We have arrived at this conclusion because of the very wise words of celebrity ladies, who, shockingly, appear to really, really like having children. The latest comes from a tweet brand-new mom Jessica Simpson wrote last night: “I am so in love with baby Maxwell. I want to cry every time I look at her. Motherhood is by far the best thing I’ve ever experienced,” she wrote.
Interesting fact: Jessica may have cribbed this line from someone else. Or all of the people. But specifically, Miranda Kerr who said this year of having baby Flynn: “I love it, I really love it. … He’s the best thing that ever happened to me.”
After weeks of speculation that she’d secretly had her baby girl already, the seemingly pregnant forever Jessica Simpson has actually, really, finally gave birth to her daughter with fiance Eric Johnson. “Eric and I are elated to announce the birth of our daughter Maxwell Drew Johnson,” reads a pink announcement on JessicaSimpson.com. And now we know why the singer/fashionista has looked like she was ready to pop for the past few months, Maxwell weighed in at 9 lbs, 13 oz. and is 21 and 3/4″ long.
“We are so grateful for all of the love, support and prayers we have received,” the announcement continues. “This has been the greatest experience of our lives.”
Between her healthy size and the name Maxwell Drew, we’re not sure if Jessica is following through on her plan to have a super girly girl. “I swear, I will croak if she asks me for a pair of Nikes instead of Christian Louboutins!” Simpson told Elle in March. “Eric is so athletic. We’re gonna have this athletic girl and I won’t even be able to take her shopping.”
