Is it just us, or was the 2011 Billboard Music Awards
red white carpet dull? The press room and the stage (obviously) had way more action! As far as we’re concerned, the carpet was all about Nicki Minaj‘s pink hair versus Rihanna‘s red! We love both, but we’re handing this one to Ri-Ri who was super streamlined in a spotless white suit. Gorgeous! We’re not going to get into Nicki’s powder blue whatchamaycallit of an outfit, or Ke$ha‘s, for that matter. We can’t make sense of either!
We’d also like to point out how our little sweetheart Selena Gomez—who shared a kiss with BF Justin Bieber later—seems to slipping in more and more skin every time we see her. Little by little, so people don’t freak out! Crafty… but we’re on to you, Gomez! She and Nicole Kidman had a particularly sweet red carpet photo op that you can see in our gallery below. Nas, Ne-Yo and Mary J. Blige in all her leonine glory all added a touch of glamor, but just not enough. Do you agree with us? Sound off in the comments section below!

Most Americans, if they know who Pete Doherty is at all, know him as that guy from The Libertines whose drug-fueled escapades with former girlfriend Kate Moss got more press than the band’s critically hailed 2002 debut, Up The Bracket. Today’s news won’t really change that, as Doherty has been sentenced to 6 months prison for cocaine possession. The charge followed a police investigation into the January 2010 overdose of his friend, documentarian Robyn Whitehead. “Robyn was using drugs when she was 12 years old. she was a heavily involved recreational user and abuser of substances,” said Doherty on his blog, denying any responsibility for her death. “I did not lead her astray at all. I loved her. I left her the day before she died pissed off that I wouldn’t give her any drugs…Robyn’s father texted me that I am a ‘coward and a runt’ and that I am to blame. She would be broken hearted if she knew that I was not even invited to the funeral…she was my best friend, you deranged old silly…the media has been despicable and you are falling into their hands.”
Doherty, previously jailed for brief periods in 2003 and 2008 after multiple brushes with the law, was scheduled to perform in Glasgow, Scotland tonight, and recently shot his first movie, Confessions d’un Enfant du Siecle, with Charlotte Gainsbourg. The Libertines reunited to play a series of gigs in 2009 and 2010, after splitting in 2004.
They’re loose in the city! The Glee finale is almost upon us and the New Directions are set to take over the city so nice they named it twice during Glee’s New York visit. Today Vulture premiered Glee‘s “I Love New York”/”New York, New York” cover. The charismatic, electronic mashup of Madonna‘s “I Love New York” and the classic On The Town tune will air May 24, joining the the kids of McKinley as they swarm Times Square like a candy-colored, multi-harmony version of I Am Legend. During Nationals, the kids from the Heartland will reportedly square off against an all-girl group covering Usher’s “Yeah.” Other places might make them feel like a dork, but seeing the Gleeks on the streets of New York is going to make us feel like we’re watching a sweet-faced, choreographed remake of Cloverfield.
Wow! Can Beyonce turn it up a notch when she wants to! The sexy singer is up to her 4th album—aptly titled 4, which also happens to be her birth date. The current release date is June 28, but the artwork’s already out…and all we can say is rwar! 4 features Beyonce wearing nothing but a pelt, some jewelry, what looks like a g-string and a smoldering stare! She debuted the video for “Run The World (Girls)”, which is on the album, during American Idol yesterday, while serving as a guest mentor. Let the promotions begin! What do you think of the album art?

The blogosphere blew up over the weekend when it was discovered that Chris Brown was following Rihanna on Twitter and *gasp* she was following him right back! Oh my god! Mutual social networking between two consensual adults?! It doesn’t take a relationship expert to read between the lines and tell what this means: Chris and Rihanna are getting married immediately and are rushing right into making babies.
But for real, this connection didn’t sit well with many of Rihanna’s fans, who viewed any contact with her abusive ex as a sign of romantic reconciliation. We’re not so convinced of that, but we are fairly certain that some of Rihanna’s twitter followers are a little high strung and need to chill-the-f out. And RiRi pretty much said as much. “It’s f–kin twitter, not the altar! Calm down,” she responded to one angry tweeter.
Rihanna has gone to great lengths to move on from her 2009 assault at the hands of Brown, but her fans clearly still harbor some resentment. Do you think following each other on Twitter is a bad move, or NBD? Will a Facebook friendship be in their future? We don’t know, but we fear the firestorm that a social networking union would provoke.

Cassidy, the rapper behind B.A.R.S., is behind bars for an outstanding warrant in his hometown of Hackensack, NJ. But that probation violation is just the tip of the “I’m A Hustla” star’s problems—police in nearby Philadelphia requested the arrest to keep Cassidy from fleeing a murder investigation in which he’s a major suspect. “The warrant was for violating probation, but Reese is also a suspect in a murder and two attempted murders in Philadelphia,” said a representative for the Hackensack PD. “Philadelphia police knew from a prior investigation that the rapper lived in Hackensack.” Cassidy was picked up by police after leaving his home to visit a convenience store Saturday afternoon.
Cassidy, whose single “Hotel” with R. Kelly went Top 5 in 2003, released three top ten albums in the last decade, and is currently signed to Carmelo Anthony‘s Kross Over Entertainment. Born Barry Adrian Reese, he served eight months for involuntary manslaughter after a 2005 shooting. Cassidy has yet to be publicly charged with the new crimes.

Lady Gaga’s acoustic gig at Annabel’s last week may have been for only 150 people, but it wasn’t hard to get your fill of Gaga in London this weekend. The singer was in and out of her hotel every day, bearing biscuits and taking photos with fans in a cavalcade of insane outfits. See candid photos of Gaga’s freak fashion—plus from her concert at the BBC’s Big Weekend 2011 festival—in the gallery below.

Sarah Palin would hate for you to think she was playing the race card or anything when she criticized Barack Obama for letting rapper/actor Common speak at White House poetry celebration last night. You see, Common is one of those cop-killing, violence-inciting thug rappers you’ve heard about. “This rapper—we thought that we were to be united under the leader of the free world, Barack Obama, in tamping down racism and inciting violence and cop killing, certainly, and killing a former president,” Palin said on Fox News last night. “All those things that this rapper has glorified and really is known for, it just certainly reflects a lack of judgment on the White House’s part.”
In case you really knew Common for acting in films like Just Wright, recording albums with ?uestlove and sweetly proposing to a suburban deaf girl in the “Come Close” video, Palin is referring to a song recorded about Black Panther Assata Shakur and another lyric about “burning Bushes.” But don’t think she’s not down with hip-hop for equating Common with Eazy-E. “I am obviously a proponent of free speech. I’m not anti-rap. In fact, like Bret Baier, I know the lyrics to ‘Rapper’s Delight,'” Sarah Palin said. “But I am saying just common decency in the White House—wouldn’t we like to see a reflection of all that is wonderful and great, a shining city on a hill that the White House is supposed to be, with events inside of that house that reflect the patriotism and the decency and the influence of America.” So people who dare to voice support for ’60s activist figures and make mean metaphors about unpopular politicians shouldn’t get to recite poetry there. Gotcha, Sarah. But do you really like that Sugarhill Gang lyric about “super sperm”?
Watch The Daily Show‘s Jon Stewart rip into the anti-Common rhetoric on Fox after the jump.
We knew the gossip about Prince banning Whitney Houston from his concerts was 2 nasty 2 b true. Oh sure, Prince’s handlers may have planned to keep her from getting on his stage again, but u know Prince himself would never make such a decree. The Purple 1 has issued a statement denying that Whitney will b forced to watch his concerts from the cheap seats.
Whitney Houston is always welcome at Prince shows 4 all of eternity. Seeing her at 2 shows at The Forum in L.A. was a treat, especially when she sang with Chaka Khan and danced with Prince during his set. We love her always.
Granted, Whitney’s song with Chaka was…a little pitchy, and Prince only allowed Whitney 2 dance during his set. But with Whitney headed back 2 rehab, hopefully she’ll b in a better state next time she shows up at the Forum…or b happy to play the cowbell. Also, if u think it’s cheesy 2 write like Prince when reporting on him…don’t knock it till u try it.

We won’t see another video of Whitney Houston wrecking a Prince concert…not if Prince can help it. TMZ reports that Whitney is no longer allowed to attend his concerts, after making a scene at multiple engagements. According to their sources, Whitney frequently asked to be let on stage, with the Purple One’s team rebuffing her, worried she’d “embarrass” herself. Considering what happened when opening act Chaka Khan let Whitney on stage (click on the link if you missed it!), their worries were pretty well founded.
With Whitney off to rehab to prepare for a movie, it’s not likely she’ll be bugging Prince any time soon. But next time she wants to, she’ll have to try from the cheap seats.
