A few weeks ago on America Idol, this season’s mentor, Jimmy Iovine called contestant Lauren Alaina “a much stronger singer” than Miley Cyrus as Alaina rehearsed Miley’s song “The Climb.” Iovine backtracked the next week, telling us that he was only saying that to boost Alaina’s self-esteem before showtime. (Not that it wasn’t true, she’s still our pick to win this thing, we love that girl.) It turns out, Iovine was also backtracking because he felt bad about what he said. A source tells E! Online “Jimmy apologized and personally asked Miley to come on” Idol to mentor Alaina this week because he’s been a fan of hers and regretted his remarks.
Does this mean that each contestant will get their own mentor tonight, or just Lauren? We’re not sure — guess we’ll have to watch to find out. It’s Carole King night, by the way, so we’re fully expecting (hoping!) that someone will sing the theme song to Gilmore Girls.

Steven Tyler went to rehab after multiple leg surgeries in 2008, but in his new Rolling Stone cover story, the Aerosmith singer says he—and guitarist Joe Perry—actually used drugs together during a scrapped recording session around 2009. “It was just like 30 years before,” he explained. “I whipped out mine, he whipped out his and we got high together again. I say to Joe, ‘Wow, man, how you been, it’s been, what, 17 years since we got high together? Joe, you’ve been f—ing running away from me ever since.'” Unsurprisingly, their relapse affected their work. “Joe was high and he couldn’t play. I couldn’t sing, really, because I was snorting everything, and it f—s up your throat. It was the wrong time.”Aerosmith nearly split in late 2009, when Tyler began working on his upcoming autobiography and the band accused him of relapsing. Perry refused to comment on the new allegations, though Aerosmith will reportedly appear on American Idol with Tyler later this eason.
Tyler also talks in the interview about nearly joining Led Zeppelin in 2008 (“I decided, ‘Well, I know that I’m mad at [Aerosmith], but I’m not that mad'”), planning his first solo album (one track is titled “Bobbing For Piranha”!) and his time on Idol (apparently he beat The Who’s Roger Daltrey—known Simon Cowell basher—for the gig!). “You know what, out of the 20 kids you saw tonight…if you could just sprinkle 10 years of smoking pot, getting f—ed up, getting laid, getting f—ed, and 10 years of just life, which one of those people wouldn’t be a star?” Somehow we don’t think we’ve seen the last Steven Tyler f-bomb on Idol.
We’re not the world’s biggest Black Eyed Peas fan to begin with, but after reading this interview with Will.i.am in Elle magazine, we’re even less psyched about them now. When asked the question “If you walked into a woman’s house, what one item would convince you that you weren’t compatible?” the Pea responded “If she had condoms in her house, that would just f—n’ throw me off. That’s just tacky. …I just think, like, if you’re into someone and you guys get to that level, then that’s something you should converse about together and say, ‘Hey, maybe we should get some.'”
Are we crazy for thinking that that’s kind of delusional and antiquated? Isn’t “Be Prepared” a motto that works well beyond the Boy Scouts of America? We don’t know why we’re so worked up about something that a man who wrote a song called “Let’s Get Retarded” said, but this bugs us that as a hugely popular artist that people look up to, he’d say something that could be misconstrued and also makes him sound like a doofus. Later in the interview, Will.i.am also explains his love for Billy Joel and wiping his ass with baby wipes, so he apparently doesn’t care about sounding like a doofus about a wide range of topics.

Do not doubt the power of Donnie Wahlberg‘s Twitter! The NKOTB member and Blue Bloods star not only “twugs” far beyond the call of duty, but a recent retweet may have managed to save a fan’s life. “Basically, a few of my Twitter followers retweeted a blog about a fan named Bobbette who was in desperate need of a kidney transplant,” Donnie told the Boston Herald. “So I saw the tweet, read the link and then retweeted and asked for help.” Donnie’s darlings did just that, providing Vanderbilt University with six potential matches. Now Bobbette is scheduled to get The Right Kidney in June! Woah-oh, oh-oh-oh!
Of course, Donnie refused to take too much credit for the medical donor mobilizing, calling it a “team effort.” “It’s a testament to the value of Twitter when used for more than telling people what one is eating for dinner or using it to sell products by tweeting as an #endorser,” he told the Herald. Hard to believe this guy used to be the “bad boy” in the New Kids! Hopefully she’ll be able to catch the New Kids and the Backstreet Boys during their upcoming summer tour.
Isn’t having the Black Eyed Peas open a music school in New York City a bit like having Taylor Momsen start a charm school in Paris? Sure, she could probably do it, but there must be millions of people who are more qualified, plus having her name on it is only going to raise eyebrows. As part of the city’s Urban Arts Partnership, the Peapod Adobe Youth Voices academy will provide arts education to students 13 to 19. It will be located, we’re assuming, right next to the Arby’s school of culinary excellence.
Don’t get us wrong. Fergie and the gang do a lot of amazing charity projects, like the Black Eyed Pea’s Annual Peapod Benefit Concert and apl.de.ap’s computer lab project in the Phillipines. When it comes to music, however, maybe it’s best to leave education to the educators, not the computer that churns out all the Peas’ beats. We can only imagine what would happen if the Peas themselves were students there. Their Super Bowl performance alone would have gotten all of them expelled.

Is Beyonce trying to make us jealous? Gorgeous hair, adorable dress, perfect accessories and a dinner date with her man…IN PARIS. And not just any man, of course – her hubby is Jay-Z. It’s too much! She’s too perfect! Her life is too great! The singer just shot a new music video with Water for Elephants director Francis Lawrence – perhaps this is how famous people celebrate such accomplishments? We normally got nuts on unlimited Olive Garden bread sticks when we have a big moment at work, but hey – we’re also wearing H&M today, accessorized by some serious hair frizz. There can only be one Queen B, mais non?

Jennifer Lopez, you’ve still got it! And we’re not just talking about her amazing body—the American Idol judge also still has clothes that made a lot more sense in the late ’90s. J. Lo was at an LA Best Buy to hand out pre-signed copies of her new Love? yesterday, flashing lots of jewelry and sporting donning a black, diamond-hemmed capri pants and an open gray blouse, baring her abs and flower-print bikini top. Maybe if you dress like your commercial heyday, it comes back!
With her single “On The Floor” an international #1 hit, it’s possible she may be achieving just that. But does that mean Lopez might leave AI? “I don’t know if I will do another season. I’m taking it day by day at the moment and we’ll see what happens,” she told the Daily Star. “I’ve been having a great time, I can’t lie. I’m really enjoying it and having fun and enjoying working with the contestants…You’re talking about performing and singing and when you’re watching them you see them and think, ‘I do that’. It’s been a great exchange back and forth.”

Demi Lovato has confirmed that suspicions that she’s leaving her Disney show Sonny With A Chance, telling People, “I don’t think going back to Sonny would be healthy for my recovery…Being in front of a camera would make me nervous.” Her exit was rumored after the show’s changed its name to So Random last month, removing Demi’s titular character Sonny from the title. Lovato says she plans to focus on her music, but is “really excited to see where everything goes,” with the network voicing their support of her decision.
While Lovato doesn’t want to return to acting yet, she faced the cameras this week to record an interview with 20/20 about her rehab stay and the emotional problems that led to her dramatic meltdown. The 18-year-old star told Robin Roberts that she was “compulsively overeating” at 8 and cutting herself by 11 (“I was matching the inside to the outside. And there were some times where my emotions were just so built up, I didn’t know what to do. The only way that I could get instant gratification was through an immediate release on myself”). Admitting to punching dancer Alex Welch (“I feel horrible, [she] was my friend”), Lovato said “The real reason why I’m sitting down with you is to open up the eyes of so many young girls, that it doesn’t have to be this way.” The interview is set to air on GMA and 20/20 Friday.

Though Jennifer Hudson showed up at ITV Studios in London wearing khaki shorts and a loose blouse, she looked infinitely more glam after finishing a taping of The Alan Titchmarsh Show. The “Spotlight” singer showed off her curves to the paparazzi outside, posing in a tight green dress and dramatic silver heels. Hard to believe this is the same person who strutted without through LA without make-up last week. See more photos of J. Hud in the gallery below.

Be still, our eleven-year-old heart. ’80s teen pop stars Tiffany and Debbie Gibson are going on tour together. Yes, in 2011! Tiff told Page Six, “We want to journey through the ’80s and all the artists who influenced us,” which means they’ll perform their own singles but also cover songs by artists like Stevie Nicks and Reba McIntyre. (Lord, we don’t ask for much, but if you could let them cover “Fancy” we’d be forever in your debt.)
All this time we thought these two singers had a huge rivalry as teens. Turns out they get along so well that they can easily transition from making a SyFy movie together (last year’s Mega Python Vs. Gatoroid, obvs) to a summer tour. If we’ve learned anything from these two it’s that peace and harmony can be achieved, just as long as everyone wears funky vests and jean jackets.
