We’ve always loved Tim Gunn for his candor and class on Project Runway, but he’s been stirring up the fashion world lately with a book he wrote which reveals some juicy tidbits about fashion’s queen bee, Anna Wintour.
Gunn has been making the rounds this Fashion Week to promote Gunn’s Golden Rules, which contains a story about how he witnessed Wintour being carried down five flights of stairs at a fashion show. That he would publicly call out Wintour for her diva-like behavior made her so angry she demanded he retract the story, but he refused explaining that it was 100% true and he wasn’t the only witness. He included the story in the book, he says, not because she was carried, but because she made such a stink about being outed for it “Accept responsibility for your own behavior. If you’re going to be carried down five flights of stairs, own up to it,” he said on Live! with Regis and Kelly earlier in the week.
Today in Page Six, Gunn was asked what he would do if he saw Wintour at Fashion Week this week, to which he replied “Lord knows hell would freeze over if I came face to face with her here, but I probably wouldn’t be able to see past her handlers.” In addition, Gunn told WWD “I had friends and colleagues say, ‘You’ll never be invited to a dinner party again.’ My response was ‘Hallelujah!’” Could not love him more.
What’s ironic to us is how Wintour is upset with Gunn for being a sensible and decent human being, but just today defended universally loathed model Naomi Campell. Campbell was accused of being difficult to work with (if we had a nickel…) at the Fashion’s Night Out event held earlier this week in New York, but Wintour disagreed, stating “Naomi was on time, professional and a joy to work with.” Campbell may indeed have been professional and punctual, but we’re highly suspicious of any joy being had within her cell-phone throwing radius. But there you have it, an inside glimpse of the Opposite-Day/Bizarro World goings on in the world of fashion. So glad we get all our clothes at T.J. Maxx.

Finally, proof that the love between Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel just isn’t that hot. Sexyback and Sexybutt kept their winter wardrobes on while scoping out the Paris 68 show at NYC fashion week yesterday. Timberlake spent the night promoting his William Rast line before spending some quality PDA time with Biel. “He opened the curtain and stepped Jessica behind it, then wrapped them in it before giving her a long kiss,” a witness after the afterparty told Page Six. “He ended up giving her a lap dance. It was pretty raunchy.” Just as long as there wasn’t a box over his crotch.
The guest list at the Rodarte show answered a few lingering questions we’ve had lately, the first being “Where’s Kirsten Dunst hiding these days?”and the second being “Which Fashion Week runway show will draw the coolest crowd ever?” Dunst was there palling around with her on-screen husband from Marie Antoinette, Jason Schwartzman, while indie music icons Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth sat a few seats away. Rounding out the cool club were Natalie Portman, Chloë Sevigny and a whole mess of unkempt coifs and quirky facial hair throughout the room. [Photos: Getty Images]
Yesterday marked Pete Wentz‘ Fashion Week show for his clothing/design/publishing label, Clandestine Industries. Proving he’s not one to avoid theatrics, he took to the stage in a Hannibal Lecter-inspired straitjacket and…moving dolly? Hand truck? Whatever it is, he got wheeled in. The Fall Out Boy bassist’s clothing line is heavy on the printed-graphics and hoodies and is decidedly hipster (you don’t say!) and not at all what we’d assume Hannibal Lecter to wear while he’s lounging. For more backstage pics of Pete preparing to eat his audience’s faces, check out our gallery below.

Anyone hear that squeaking? Must be Kim Kardashian wriggling towards the cameras to show off her form-fitting plastic wrap—bondage gear can be glamorous, too! The star stopped by Sephora on Fifth Avenue in the middle of Fashion Week to remind us how easy she is to smell now that her eponymous fragrance has been released. Watch the reality star stretch herself to the limit in the gallery below.
Lindsay Lohan may officially be in London to participate in a charity auction after tonight’s BRIT awards (she’ll be giving herself to the highest bidder), but the fact that Ungaro’s own is out of the US during NY Fashion Week may not be a coincidence. A source tells the New York Daily News that Lohan wasn’t invited to Jill Stuart’s show because the one-time actress is starting to be seen as a “brand damager.” “A lot of designers, and especially Jill’s camp,” says the insider, “don’t think she’s worth all the press she’d get their show.” Stuart denies the claim, but with Charlotte and Samantha Ronson keeping a high profile at the week’s soirees, Lohan may have felt a cold shoulder all the same.
Thankfully, London’s club scene is welcoming her with open arms—after Lindsay’s opera escort imbroglio last week, she must have shown up at the airport extra early! Watch the star head to the club Bungalow in a faux fur and bowler hat last night in the gallery below.
The no-pants fad. First started by an improv group who took to riding the subway sans-trousers in New York to make people laugh/squirm. Co-opted by Lady Gaga somewhere in 2009 as a daring – but breezy – fashion statement. And now a full-blown trend, judging by Ke$ha‘s bottomless appearance at Fashion Week. When will it end? Presumably when someone sits on a splintery park bench, but we can’t be sure.
Ke$ha dropped in at the Erin Wasson show yesterday in a getup vaguely resembling some of Lady Gaga’s earlier looks, complete with leopard-print underthings and fishnets. (No better time like the day after a blizzard to test your legs’ tolerance for frostbite, that’s what we always say.) So is Ke$ha ripping off Gaga’s look? Judge for yourself. [Photos: Getty Images]
We have done Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week five times, and this was by far the most fabulous of them all. The energy in New York City was back, and more celebrities than ever came out to the tents to watch the models show off the new looks for Spring 2010. From hanging with Rihanna on Fashion’s Night Out to hosting our own Fashion Week party to checking out the hottest in shoes and clothing, this Fashion Week was truly amazing. After a week that started off with a tumultuous VMA night where Kanye West stole her thunder, Taylor Swift looked the picture of elegance while attending the Tommy Hilfiger show at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week. Taylor was a vision in red as she took in the show and then joked around backstage with Russell Simmons. Looking amazing is the best revenge! [Photos: Stephen Mao]
La Lohan never ceases to amaze us. Yesterday we reported that she and Taylor Momsen were getting chummy at a fashion show earlier this week, and now comes the rumor that when Lindsay showed up to the G-Star runway show with her sister Ali and some pals, she actually tried to move Momsen’s seating card to accommodate her own crew. Not such good pals anymore, it seems. She also started tossing around the seating cards of Juliette Lewis and Christian Siriano, until the event producers tried to stop her, at which point she yelled at them “Don’t f*cking touch me!”. Lohan also allegedly put up a fuss when she had to pose for pictures and chat with the press ’cause that’s, like, work and stuff. [Source: NY Post; Photo: Getty Images]
