When Meryl Streep signs onto a role, she signs on. From transforming into a frigid nun for Doubt, to a free-spirited former disco dancer in Mamma Mia!, to the chicest b*tch to ever hit the silver screen in The Devil Wears Prada, Streep doesn’t merely rock a wig and prosthetics, but totally embodies her character. Most recently, she wowed crowds (and may very likely nab an Oscar) with her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady. The voice! The pearls! The teef!
To honor one of Hollywood’s best and to prep for the Academy Awards on Feb. 26th, let’s take a minute to admire a dozen of Meryl’s movie makeovers.
We hold Rihanna near and dear to our hearts for oh so many reasons. Her catchy songs are certainly big part of her appeal, as are her outspoken and often hilarious outbursts on Twitter. But we can’t think of Rihanna without her unique (some would say “risque”) sense of style coming to the front of our mind. She spent most of 2011 pantsless, toured the world in a bikini this winter, and routinely ventures out with little more than Saran Wrap for a shirt. We expect her to wear garter-belts and bandana tube top to a damn christening, and we love her for it! So that’s why we’re a little surprised when she arrived at L.A.’s Pizzeria Mozza last night looking like she came straight from a job interview. Why so formal, Riri? Going for pizza requires business casual attire at max! But we have to admit, the whole pencil skirt and blouse look is really working for her. First rule of show-biz: always leave ‘em wanting more. Sometimes less skin can be sexier. Check out the gallery below for more!

Katharine McPhee took over our TV sets once before during her unforgettable run on American Idol back in 2006. And now she’s at it again, with the staring role in NBC’s Smash! The dramatic new series features McPhee as Karen Cartwright, an up-and-coming performer with some serious star power who gets her first shot at the big time. Sound familiar? It’s the role Katharine was born to play! The show premiered last night to record breaking numbers, and we can’t wait to see what’s to come.
But that’s not the only reason Kat is on everyone’s lips today. Her sizzling photo shoot for the March issue of GQ hit stands today, and it’s adding fuel to the flames. Screw the Giants parade, Katharine McPhee officially owns the day as far as we’re concerned. Take a look at the gallery below for her 20 most “smashingly” hot looks. Enjoy!
It may be beating a dead horse at this point, but what will it take for Lindsay Lohan to ditch the bleached hair, resist the (apparent) collagen, toss the cigs and put away her boobs? If homegirl wants to regain her long-lost rep as a serious actress, her latest photo shoot with Terry Richardson is not how to do it. In the classically Richardson B&W series, she spreads her legs, blows smoke, flashes nip and looks dead-eyed into the lens.
To make it clear, we’re on Team Lohan. We want her to clean up her act and defy the odds of growing up in a cray-cray family. However, she tests our fandom time and time again with her bad girl antics. Clean it up, LiLo. And please, for the love of Cady Heron, bring ginger back.

It’s overcast in Los Angeles today, but that didn’t stop this year’s batch of Oscar nominees from smiling at the annual Academy Award luncheon, honoring them and their competition at the iconic Beverly Hilton. Celebs like George Clooney, Viola Davis, Melissa McCarthy, Brad Pitt and Michelle Williams popped into the press room in between cocktails and kept reporters laughing with their banter and silly answers. I was there, hiding in the corner with my laptop, and it seriously sounded like the inside of the Laugh Factory. Who wouldn’t be happy hobnobbing with their A-List peers over some seriously good food?
Some of the best behind the scenes moments…
George Clooney was the first of the talent to hit the press room. “I got here early for the booze,” he joked. The actor, nominated twice this year, might just be the most beloved man in Hollywood. He knew all the reporters and even ribbed one guy about his vest. “Did your wife make that?” teased George. I’ve never seen a man charm a room of people so effortlessly as the Cloonster. Even more delightful – his gorgeous, silver hair. Sorry Anderson Cooper, but a new number one Silver Fox has arrived.
They say with age comes wisdom, but in Christie Brinkley’s case, age also brings on even more beauty. The stunning birthday girl has graced CoverGirl ads, Sports Illustrated covers, and the big screen, but this supermodel turned actress is more than just your all-American beauty. This mom of three manages to run fragrance and jewelry lines, while strutting her stuff on the Broadway stage as Roxie Hart in the musical hit Chicago. She also devotes her “free” time to several charitable organizations, including the Make A Wish Foundation and the American Heart Association. She’s a model in more ways than one, no? Let’s celebrate Christie’s big 5-8 by marveling at how she hasn’t looked a day over 25 for the past 25 years.
It’s unfortunate that three ladies from Glee have made it to this SAG Awards list but we can assure you that they’re all on for very valid reasons. We’ll tackle Lea Michele first. It’s odd that she’s on here because she’s been doing so well with red carpet fashion lately, but our problem with her silver-grey Versace get-up she chose tonight is that it washed her out. A brighter lip, perhaps? A different colored shoe? But our biggest issue is with that hip-high slit, which looked tacky. Diva, please!
Then there’s Heather Morris, whose Masai Payan dress just doesn’t work because one half looks like it’s made from pleather and the other half is sheer panels that look confused. Her hairstyle ages her unnecessarily, too. Finishing up the trio is Jenna Ushkowitz in Rebecca Minkoff. The mixture of florals and the sheer paneling, again, makes it a fail.
Rose Byrne wore one of her favorite designers (Elie Saab) but picked a white jumpsuit completely encrusted with sequins, slashed down the front. We have a problem with jumpsuits on red carpets as it is, and this one is just not good. We also don’t know what Busy Philipps was thinking? That much boho is a no-no. We wouldn’t wear this to the beach, let alone an awards show. Shailene Woodley wore a floral L’Wren Scott, but didn’t pay much attention to her hair or makeup. As a result, the dress looked a bit like an arts and crafts project on her. Rounding up the list is Kaley Cuoco whose feathered Ramona Keveza combined with the braided hair borders on milkmaid territory. Could any of these looks be salvaged, or should they just be savaged? Let us know in the comments section!

Katy Perry’s divorce is probably taking a devastating personal toll, but it must be a confidence booster knowing she can send another human being into cardiac arrest simply by laying one on him. We also appreciate this fan’s steez, which he demonstrated while attending Katy’s concert in Jakarta, Indonesia last night. What, you’re going to go to a Katy Perry concert, have her kiss up on you and not immediately have a brain aneurysm? That would just be a waste of money. Money that could be better spent buying a new shirt after Katy Perry’s blistering hotness melted yours off right off your torso.

We could have easily pulled Betty White’s 90 most adorable photos in honor of her 90th birthday today. Everyone’s favorite Golden Girl (sorry, Bea Arthur!) has the cuteness factor of Selena Gomez pushing a baby carriage full of puppies in sailor hats down the aisle of a store that only sells Anne Geddes books. She’s so cute that prolonged exposure to her face eventually results in being unable to do anything but stare at the computer screen and make a noise that sounds something like “GooOooOoooOOOoooo.” So, in order to keep our jobs, we capped it at just 20. We hope you understand.
But it’s true, the ageless and timeless actress turns the big 9-0 today, and she’s just as with sassy as ever. And now we’d like to pay tribute to our honorary grandma in the gallery below. Rock on, Betty!
