Pia Toscano is in with Interscope Records! She’s signed a recording contract with them and will be debuting her first single This Time on July 12. What’s even cooler is that she gets to perform it during the American Idol Live Tour which translates into tons of free publicity! So it really doesn’t matter that she came ninth place on AI because her career’s made thanks to the show anyway!
Toscano announced the news stating, “I am thrilled to be joining the Interscope and 19 Recordings family. [Interscope Geffen A&M Chairman] Jimmy Iovine was an amazing mentor during my time on Idol and I’m looking forward to working with him and everyone at Interscope Records and 19 Recordings. This is a dream come true.” She’s also working on her album which will drop later this year and it’s a “big, diva-sounding record”, says producer Rodney Jerkins. Do you think she has a solid career post American Idol?
Scotty McCreery is the new American Idol! The teenaged country singer beat Lauren Alaina to win the the title which capped off a spectacular show. The two hour Season 10 finale took place at the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles and they really packed in as much as they could. Beyonce dazzled on stage, Jennifer Lopez sparkled in a very JLo-esque jumpsuit and old and new American Idol contestants turned up in hordes. Like Sanjaya Malakar — remember him? A lot of this seasons contestants got to sing with their idols like Tony Bennett, Tim McGraw, Tom Jones, Judas Priest …. and Lady Gaga! Jack Black rocking out? Classic!
But more than anything, we were just happy to see some of our contestants and winners of past American Idol’s. Adam Lambert who was so glam it hurt, Allison Iraheta, Jason Castro (with his preggers wife Mandy Mayhall), Kris Allen… the list goes on. We’ve put a gallery of arrivals at the event so you can memory check everyone who came. Congratulations, Scotty! Can you believe he’s just 17? What a massive moment for country music.
Just the name of this party itself would give us stress! Imagine the pressure to look, well, hot, at the Us Magazine Hot Hollywood Style Issue bash. Some stars caved, like Lauren Conrad, who needs to fire her entire entourage — hairdresser, stylist and make-up artist — stat. Her bun looks heavier than her whole body, she’s got this weird geisha white powder thing going on with her face and her sloppy blouson-teeny skirt ensemble just isn’t working. Jessica Szhor also seems to have been inspired by her namesake Jessica Lowndes bra-baring ensembles. The lace doesn’t make it classy, ladies.
Who did make it work was Camila Alves who was ridiculously sexy in a fire-engine red strapless dress with lips to match. Carmen Electra looked like a blonde Sofia Vergara, and knocked it out of the ball park with a simple metallic shift. Sara Rue, Pia Toscano, Alexa Vega, Paris Hilton (who looked really demure), Brooke Burke and Petra Nemcova all stepped it up in the wardrobe department as well. We’d also like to say that the magazine’s “Style Icon of the Year” Jessica Simpson is getting there one ensemble at a time. Really, really getting there. Good for you, Jess! For the rest of the H’wood hotties who attended the bash (*ahem*, we didn’t exclude the guys), check out our gallery below. [Photos: Splash News Online]
This season of American Idol is throwing us off our game. We’re so used to fast forwarding through intolerable Ford music videos and suffering through silly critiques from “musicians” like Will.i.am, but this season is changing all the rules and providing so much jaw-dropping entertainment. Literally, last night when Ryan Seacrest announced that front-runner Pia Toscano was this week’s eliminated contestant, our mouth hung open in awe. Toscano was gorgeous and wowed everyone from the get-go, but in all honesty, we didn’t think she’d take the whole thing because she lacks the stage presence and personality that some of the other contestants have. (Hell, Paul McDonald‘s painted blazer has more personality.) Still, we thought she’d make it to the top three and were shocked to see her go. Wonder if the judges are regretting using that save on Casey Abrams?
It felt like the women of American Idol were on shakier ground than the men this week, judging from last night’s performances. There were far fewer ladies who are definite locks to advance to the next round, although it’s safe to say Pia Toscano gave the best performance of the night. Toscano received the first standing ovation of the season for her rendition of “I’ll Stand By You,” and as the night’s final performer, it was clear that the producers knew they had something amazing with her and saved the best for last.
Also impressive were the youngest competitors, Thia Megia, who we actually are pretty sure is 30 and not 15, and country girl Lauren Alaina. Beyond that, we have no idea who will make it. Let us know who your favorite female singer from last night was in our poll, and tell us in the comments who you think should go home. (We personally need Haley Reinhart and her throaty growl to take a hike. Are we wrong?)
