We’ve noticed a color combination pop up more than usual on red carpets and magazine covers of late. It’s a trend within a trend, if you will. Orange and purple outfits are everywhere, making color blocking one of the biggest fashion must-do’s this summer. Nicole Scherzinger and Cheryl Cole were pitted against each other during The X-Factor and also took each other on by wearing the same shades. A pregnant Jessica Alba wore an orange and purple dress at the CFDA awards. Kim Kardashianwore a not so flattering version at her perfume launch in the UK, copying Jennifer Lawrence‘s Flare Magazine cover. Camilla Belle put her spin on it at a Pre-Grammy brunch, adding green pants to the mix. Finally, Rihanna rocked high-waisted orange pants and a purple crop-top in the UK.
But do we like it? Do we want to see more or do we want this trend to go away?  Who wore it best and who was a big fashion fail? Take a look after the jump at our gallery and then vote in our polls so we know what you’re thinking. Feel free to comment too!
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley may be a new name to a lot of people, but she can rock an old school fashion. The lingerie model turned Transformers actress was spotted outside The Late Show yesterday in a Michael Kors bodysuit more appropriate for the line outside Studio 54 twenty-plus years ago. Are you feeling her retro look? And what about those pants? Get a closer look in the gallery below.
Watching her in the audience was her father and her Gossip Girl co-star Michelle Trachtenberg. However the gig went, we have to admit Leighton looked adorable. We love the bangs and the boho (but see-through) white skirt she had on. What do you think of Leighton’s musician avatar? Is this another case of a starlet trying to break into the music industry? Is she only getting gigs because she’s a “celebrity” and has contacts? Or does she have genuine talent and can go places?
Oh, no, girl! Dakota Fanning stars in the Oh, Lola! campaign for Marc Jacobs. It’s the designer’s new fragrance for summer and is being marketed as “lively, playful, irresistible, stylish and cheerful”. That’s all just dandy, but what we’re a bit concerned about is the advertisement itself.
The shot, taken by Juergen Teller, depicts a wide-eyed, artfully disheveled actress as Lolita, with the rose tipped bottle placed between her legs. Dakota just graduated high school! She’s just 17 years old. Much as we love her, isn’t this way too suggestive? We get the “Lolita” character was meant to be that way, but that’s the reason why it’s caused so much debate till now. Come on, seriously? Rose cap for a bottle? Between the legs? Babydoll dress? It’s a bit too sexual for us, mainly because they’ve got such a young model posing in it. Then again, Marc Jacobs has never been cookie cutter and has always pushed boundaries with his campaigns. We’ll leave it up to you to decide whether this is a bit too controversial an ad for Dakota to be in.
One of the perks about being a part of the Royal Family is that you get to play dress up a lot of the time. They always have some parade this, some function that, and their wardrobes — and their headgear — have to keep up. A particular English quirk also happens to be the ever present fascinator. The Royal Wedding was a fine example of this fad.
The latest hat-off just happened Prince William and his new bride, Duchess Catherine Middleton at yesterday’s Order of the Garter service. The Queen, Prince William and other members of the Royal Family took part in the annual parade wearing plush blue velvet robes and spectacular (we say this while giggling) black velvet hats with white plumes. But does William pull it off? We think so! His wife, Catherine, wore a stunning Philip Treacy headpiece that complemented her grey dress and coat quite nicely. But who looks better? Can’t make up your mind about who wins this round? Look at our gallery for separate pictures of the two and then go ahead and vote!
Cameron Diaz showed off an ostenisbly sexy scholar look in Madrid while promoting Bad Teacher earlier today, combining a pink tweed blazer with high heels and what appears to be a white pantless jumpsuit. While we find no fault in Cameron showing off her legs like this, the blazer feels a bit much. Are you giving her a passing grade or does qualify as a fashion fail?
Kim Kardashian isn’t just overseas for the UK Glamour Awards…she’s got smells to sell! The mag’s “Entrepreneur Of The Year” stepped out in London today to launch her self-titled fragrance, wearing a gold belt and tight skirt under her twisted purple top. “I LOVE LONDON SOOO MUCH!!!!!!” she tweeted, apparently not sweating her threatened lawsuit against footballer Bret Lockett and InTouch Weekly over their sketchy “sexting affair” story. Do you think she pulled off the look? Check out the gallery and let us know!
Two generations of rebellious, quality American acting were represented at Cannes photocalls this morning, with two-time Academy Award winner Sean Penn promoting his daring rock star/nazi hunter film This Must Be Place and Ryan Gosling hyping his arty thriller Drive. And, at the risk of offending fans of their mutually remarkable bodies of work (and in Ryan’s case, his remarkable body), we’re going to go out on a limb and say they both looked kinda silly. Oh sure, Sean isn’t the first actor to stroll around the sea in a faded denim outfit (hello, Antonio Banderas!). Plenty of people would be happy to let Ryan hang around them in a pajama top, white pants and wingtip shoes, especially if they got to be there when he took them off. But you don’t usually see them surrounded by paparazzi on the coast of France. We’re not hating, folks…just amused at what passes for celebrity Cannes casual wear.

Lots of people wear their glasses to drive, but Glee’s Chord Overstreet wears them to drive after rocking the Nylon party at LA’s Bardot, leaving in a $100,000 Lotus sports car. This isn’t the first time Chord’s rocked frames in public, but he’s usually bare-faced on the red carpet. Do you think he should make them part of his regular look, or leave them by the bed?

Blake Lively made her debut as a redhead at the Time 100 Gala last night and we’re strangely fascinated by her new color. On the one hand, Blake’s long blonde locks are one of the reasons we love her so much, but on the other, this new look makes her look completely different (even her brows have been dyed to match). Is Blake trying out for The Lindsay Lohan Story (circa 2004?) or is she just experimenting? Actually, the new color is for her role in the film Hick. So what do you think of the new style?
