Chris Rock Wants Melissa McCarthy For His “Jerry Springer” Bride In New Movie

Valentine’s Day is less than two weeks away, and love is in the air. Love of a good paternity-test joke, that is. While attending the Sundance premiere of his new dramedy Two Days in New York last week, Chris Rock admitted that he is currently making the moves on Bridesmaids breakout Melissa McCarthy. Comedically speaking, of course. “I’m trying to romance her,” the comedian revealed, explaining that he intends to snag McCarthy as the other half of the rowdy, dysfunctional “Jerry Springer couple” at the center of his new untitled script. Wait a minute … this rom-com sounds like it might actually have both romance and comedy in it! We knew it had to happen sometime! Steve Wilkos can cameo as their best man!

According to the L.A. Times, Rock has apparently “made some inroads” into wooing McCarthy for the part. A quick look at her IMDB page, however, suggests McCarthy’s dance card is filling up pretty fast, so Chris needs to lock it down now. Honestly, we’re not too worried about these two. We believe in a Rock/McCarthy team-up movie more than we believe in the existence of romantic love. Besides, is there anything more dreamy than the prospect of a choreographed two-person “You Are Not the Father” dance? We didn’t think so.

Stilettos, Skin And Snow: Estelle, Paris And Others Shiver For Style At Sundance

While we’ve spent some time this week admiring the very practical wardrobe choices of the stars at the Sundance Film Festival, we also had a few SMH moments as we flipped through some pics from Park City. Some celebrities refuse to trade in their typical Hollywood red-carpet style for puffy coats and Sorels. Take Estelle, for instance, who was at the festival for the first time.

“It’s cold! It’s snowy and cold! Why do they do this here?” the British songstress asked VH1 News as we noticed her beautiful, but very delicate, sparkly pumps. “Darling, I have to be fabulous! I don’t want duck boots! I have duck boots; I left them home in New York.”

But if she comes back again next year, she’ll give in. “I will be here in furs, big thick jumpers, boots, and I will not take them off for anybody. Layers are cute.”

Check out all the other stars who sacrificed comfort for style, including Paris Hilton, Kate Bosworth, AnnaLynne McCord and more. And you can find the rest of VH1 News’ Sundance interviews right here.

Aubrey Plaza Talks About Her Love Of Older Men At Sundance

Alan Thicke, we know you are currently married and probably have at least some scruples about dating a woman young enough to be your offspring. If you didn’t, though, Aubrey Plaza would be all up on that bidness. “I met Alan Thicke on the plane and that blew my mind,” the Park & Rec star told VH1 News while visiting Sundance. When asked what it is about older men that gets her going, Aubrey barely even knows where to start.

“Their Roth IRAs,” Plaza joked. “Their wisdom and their chest hair.” What about their giant white sneakers, Aubrey? Their endless trips around the mall? Their delicious hard and soft butterscotch candies, more butterscotch options than you even knew existed? We’re just kidding, of course. We would arm-wrestle Aubrey’s arm out of its socket for the chance to meet Alan Thicke in person. Let’s hope it rarely, if ever comes, to that.

Josh Radnor Modestly Admits To Being A Filmmaking Machine At Sundance

Sure, we all love Josh Radnor on How I Met Your Mother.  He’s undeniably hilarious, but did you know that the dude is a one man movie-making machine!? OK, we’re sure he had some help, but it’s still pretty impressive that Josh wrote, directed and starred in Liberal Arts, which is currently taking Sundance by storm. How did he find time to do all that, and be on a hit sitcom?

“Well, I wrote it before I shot it, so I got that out of the way,” he told VH1 News’ very own Janell Snowden. But the simultaneous acting and directing did prove to be a challenge. “I’d done it before, but I’m in about 95 percent of this movie, so that was not easy.” So why not hand the lead role over to someone else, you might ask? It definitely wasn’t narcissism, if that’s what you’re thinking! “This was a part that I wrote that I couldn’t not play it. It was so close to a world I knew.”

Tracy Morgan Isn’t The Only Star Feeling The Sundance High … Altitude!

“On the set of 30 Rock, just walked past @alecbaldwin and said Top That!” Tracy Morgan tweeted a couple of hours ago. Phew! We’re so glad he’s feeling better after being hospitalized in Park City over the weekend. He’d collapsed during the Creative Coalition Spotlight Awards (and considering the photo above was taken at the ceremony, we’re not surprised!), due to what his spokesperson called “a combination of exhaustion and altitude.” TMZ caught him at the Salt Lake City airport on Monday with an oxygen tank, supporting the altitude explanation.

Apparently, Tracy isn’t alone in feeling the effects of being on higher ground in Utah. VH1 News talked to a number of other stars at Sundance who were still a little lightheaded. Not that they let that slow them down much.

Oscar Nominee Octavia Spencer Is “Going All The Way,” Says Allison Janney

Octavia Spencer has been taking the 2012 awards season by storm. After winning at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards and the Golden Globes, she was a sure bet for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination today. But that’s not why her Help co-star Allison Janney was singing her praises yesterday at Sundance. Allison and Octavia go way back, along with fellow Supporting Actress nominee Melissa McCarthy and The Artist co-star Missi Pyle, who all starred in Help director Tate Taylor’s Pretty Ugly People in 2008.

“This has been amazing to see Octavia blossom and see everyone discover her and see how wonderful she is, ’cause we’ve all known for years,” Janney told VH1 News. “We’ve all been friends with her and worked with her. I’ve done all of Tate’s movies with her before and just think the world of her.”

Drake Will Act Again, Just Not As “A Rapper Or A Basketball Player”

Any time we see Drake in a Hollywood-ish setting, like during his plane-delayed performance at Sundance last weekend, some of us still have a tiny uncool voice in our head saying, “That kid from Degrassi sure is talented.” And so, of course, VH1 News asked the Take Care rapper when he’s finally going to return to his thespian roots.

“I’ve been reading scripts for a while,” he said. “I want to do something great. I want to do something for my culture: the younger people who are still in tune with everything going on. I’m actually writing with my friends right now, [Maz Elsadig and Al Mukadam]. They have a production company called By Any Means Necessary, so we’re writing together trying to figure out the right movie.”

Sundance Secrets: Liv Tyler And James Marsden On Boots And Booty

We’re very relieved to see that most of the celebrities at Sundance this year have opted to leave their skimpy Los Angeles clothing in their fancy suitcases and don proper winter gear for their Park City romps. Some, like Liv Tyler, learned the hard way that fashion shouldn’t trump practicality, as she told VH1 News.

“It’s all about the shoes,” said the actress, who was there to promote Robot and Frank — a movie starring Frank Langella as an elderly ex-jewel thief and his robot. “Last year, I don’t know what I was thinking, I wore these little Lanvin flats with little white socks. Everything else was all warm and decked out, and I was walking through the slush with frozen toes. So this year I came prepared!”

And does “prepared” include some good long underwear?

Lil Jon And Cisco Adler Praise Sundance For Its Excellent Parties, Frequent Naps

Lil Jon and Cisco Adler seem like the last two people you’d want sitting behind you in a crowded movie theater (or, in front of you or to either side of you or …). Luckily for the attendees of Sundance 2012, they won’t have to worry about any deafening HEEEEEEYs ruining their enjoyment of their Red Hook Summer screening.

“There are a lot of movies,” Lil Jon told VH1 News. “People like us, we never see any damn movies. We’re, like, hung-over and we’re going to get free s–t all day. Can you bleep that out, please? Thank you.” If you’re picturing the extremely likely duo hitting the slopes all day, eating shrimp cocktail and curling up in front of a roaring fire for a little cat nap instead … well, then you’re already pretty familiar with Lil Jon and Cisco Adler. “We shred, then we go to dinner,” the rapper explained. “We take a nap and than we party all night.” Damn, sons. You had us at nap. Like a a great man once say, “OH-KAY!”
