The Dark Knight Rises Opening Weekend Marred By Tragedy, Shooter Kills 14 People At Cinema

Gunman Kill 14 At "The Dark Knight Rises" Premiere, Denver

Amidst all the excitement of The Dark Knight Rises opening weekend, a horrible tragedy has completely shocked the world and totally ruined the joy of the movie finally releasing. While the cast of the film is in Europe for the grand opening, back home is where the calamity happened. 14 people were shot dead by a masked gunman yesterday at the film’s premiere that was screened at the Century Aurora 16 Movie Theater in Denver, Colorado. 30-40 people are also reported to have been injured in the shooting. Initial reports stated that 10 people were murdered, but more have succumbed to their injuries in hospitals since then. Radio updates said that the gunman had a mask on, and just opened fire around the cinema, during the midnight show of the movie. The shooter also set off a smoke or tear gas bomb — details are still emerging about that. Apparently, people initially thought that the “gunshots were part of the movie” but soon realized the truth. We are just so torn up by this news and our thoughts and prayers are going out to all the people and families affected by this. 9 News, Colorado is reporting that the suspect is in police custody as of 2 AM today, and we hope justice is served quickly.

Celebrate Anne Hathaway’s Style With 30 Photos Of Her Fashion Evolution

Anne Hathaway's Fashion Evolution Over A Decade

With movies like The Dark Knight Rises and Les Miserables on the cards, we have a severe case of Anne Hathaway on the brain. But she’s always been around somewhere in the mass consciousness, never once going off the radar, as she rose steadily to become the bona fide A-list movie star she is today. We have photographs here of Anne from a decade ago, in 2002, where she may have been a little rough around the edges, sartorially, but still had that amazing body and Cheshire Cat grin. Apt, because she did end up playing Catwoman. Over the years, through many premieres, events and awards show, you will see Anne’s style sense evolve steadily, in the gallery of 30 photographs we have created. It goes right up to this current time, where she’s a total it-girl in the fashion world. Fashion with a capital “F” really, as she’s a favorite of the most incredible designers like Valentino and Armani. The change really happened when she played the lead role in The Devil Wears Prada back in 2006. Before then, Anne was getting there — but little bits like messy hair, flared jeans and pointy-toe boots gave the fact that she wasn’t quite groomed away. Then TDWP happened, and boom: sleek, chic, hello, everyone! Fabulous actress, always an ingenue, and one of the main reasons why we want to watch The Dark Knight Rises, flip through the gallery to celebrate Anne’s stratospheric fashion evolution.

Christian Bale And The Dark Knight Men Are Smoking At The Premiere! Their Guests? Not So Much

Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, The Dark Knight Rises

We’ve already posted about how Marion Cotillard and Anne Hathaway, The Dark Knight‘s lovely ladies both wore the color white the premiere of the film yesterday. It’s up to you to decide who looks best between them, between Marion’s creamy, tulle-heavy Christian Dior frock, and Anne’s draped, jersey Prabal Gurung gown. It’s not going to be easy to decide between the film’s male stars, though. How hot do Christian Bale, Tom Hardy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt look? It borders on ridiculous! Joe’s dove grey suit is Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière, FYI. And whoever designed Tom and Christian’s suits — good job. We’re sending you a bottle of wine. We love the fact that the film’s stars look so spiffy, but looks like they used up all the sartorial points at the premiere. Because some of their guests weren’t exactly as well dressed as them. We’re looking at you Jay Manuel and Pharrell Williams. The horror lies right after the jump. Read more…

Anne Hathaway And Marion Cotillard Both Wear White At The Dark Knight Rises Premiere

Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard "The Dark Knight Rises" Premiere

Style showdown, everyone! We are very pleased to announce that The Dark Knight Rises premiere yesterday at AMC Lincoln Square Theater and we can only imagine that everyone who watched it came out with their brain cells in a state of mush because we can’t imagine the movie being anything else but mind-blowingly awesome. But back to the sartorial wars. The film’s top women, Anne Hathaway and Marion Cotillard ended up wearing the same color — white — on the red carpet, albeit to totally different ends. A ballerina-esque Marion wore the cream, textured Christian Dior frock you see on the left, with sexy, sparkling Christian Louboutin heels. Lot’s of tulle in that skirt, and while someone else would have made the whole ensemble look twee, not Marion. She, of the minimal makeup, chic chignon and slow, sexy smile, makes it look perfectly Parisian.

Anne, on the other hand, looks alarmingly slender, but very beautiful in her white Prabal Gurung Resort 2013  gown, even though the peplum seems a bit half-assed to us. We know she’s lost a ton of weight to play Fantine in Les Miserables so that’s why those jersey drapes are hanging off her a bit. But that haircut makes up for it for us and the design of the gown is stark and minimal which we always love. We can’t stop looking at her face! She’s got a touch of Mia Farrow and Audrey Hepburn going on there, which is a tough combination to beat. If anyone can, though, it’s Marion. So tell us — who rocked their white outfit more?

There Is Just No Way David Letterman Spoiled The Dark Knight Rises Last Night

Guys, David Letterman is a professional talk show host. He has been doing this job longer than some of you have been alive. Of course he didn’t accidentally spoil the ending of The Dark Knight Rises last night! If that had been the case, why hasn’t he been spoiler-ing movies this whole time? What, did he suddenly just go insane? “Of course, Batman is dead in the end,” Letterman joked during his interview with Anne Hathaway Thursday evening. “I just want you to know the wrath that you have just invited onto yourself,” Anne laughed, turning to the cameras and apologizing to director Christopher Nolan. “Chris, I had no part in it, I’m sorry.” When the Interwebs have been a buzz with rumors about his possible blunder, we’d like to point on some key factors that make us believe Dave’s faux pas was just a crack ‘em up joke:

  1. Dave is literally laughing when he says it.
  2. Anne reacts with an eye roll, rather than a look of complete shock and horror. Also, are we correct in thinking that the look she shoots Letterman is completely adorable? We watched the video thrice just to see her give him the most winsome stink eye.
  3. Dave immediately admits he’s joking and tells everyone to settle down, without looking at all stricken or guilty.
  4. Dave wants to continue to have guests on his show, and blowing up their film’s spot on national TV would definitely hurt that goal.

To be fair, the fact Letterman said Batman doesn’t die is also technically a spoiler, but we’re pretty sure Dave didn’t ruin anything for us. If we’re wrong, you can *spoiler alert* pick us up and break our backs over your knee like Bane does to Batman in the comics. Does it count as a spoiler if we remember it from childhood? You can’t spoiler the past, ya’ll!

Anne Hathaway Discusses Her Various Transformations For Film Roles In Allure Cover Story

Anne Hathaway Covers July Issue Of Allure Magazine

How are we feeling about this July Allure cover of Anne Hathaway? We actually find the photographs inside the magazine — like the one we have on the right — far sexier than the picture chosen for the face of the magazine. We’re fans of the thick cat-eye eyeliner, the tousled hair, the strong eyebrows, as well as the black Alexander Wang top she has on. The cover itself has much of the same makeup, but she isn’t selling it. The expression — which we think was supposed to be a soft, serene smile — looks flat. But it’s nice to see her long hair again, since Anne has been sporting a buzz cut for her Les Miserables role of late.

She’s dishing on her various film roles in the cover story, which is interesting to read. Of her unforgiving latex suit for her portrayal as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises, the actress moans, “[It was] a psychological terrorist… the suit, thoughts of my suit, changing my life so I would fit into that suit… it dominated my year. I went into the gym for ten months and didn’t come out.” Add to that, her crazy regime for Les Miserables, and you have one very … hungry woman. She explains, “I’m doing some crazy weight stuff right now… I’m on day six of detox … this diet makes me break out, so I love that. Nothing like living on hummus and radishes and then being all like ‘And I got a pimple’ Yeah.” The things people do for art, huh? We couldn’t. And we’re not putting down this Snickers bar, either.

5 Lessons Newsies Christian Bale Taught Dark Knight Rises Christian Bale

Christian Bale in Newsies and The Dark Knight Rises

Christopher Nolan‘s Dark Knight movies take their titles very literally, don’t they? We had to adjust our monitors just to see the new TV spots from The Dark Knight Rises. But there was a bit of light in both of them: Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne has a bit of banter with Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman) and Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) and almost smiles a couple of times. You can’t blame the guy for frowning most of the time; he feels like the fate of Gotham weighs on his shoulders.

That reminds us of another time the fate of a city weighed on Bale’s shoulders … that time he formed a union of scrappy newsboys to fight Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst. Then, at least, Jack Kelly knew how to smile while fighting evil. But here are five signs we think Batman might still remember everything he learned as the Cowboy.

Christian Bale in Dark Knight Rises and Newsies
1. When the going gets rough, everyone appreciates a cheesy joke: “How’d you sleep, Jack?” “On me back.” (Did any of us ever realize how homoerotic this entire opening “Carrying the Banner” scene of the movie is?) When Lucius Fox asks Bruce Wayne, “Do you remember where you parked?” he actually raises his eyebrows in good humor.

Morgan Freeman and Christian Bale in The Dark Knight Rises, David Moscow and Christian Bale in Newsies
2. Don’t underestimate the advice of a friend. “Pulitzer and Hearst have to respect the rights of the working boys of New York!” Also, don’t ever use that terrible fake New York accent again.

From Spidey And Gwen To The Savages’ Love Triangle: Who’s This Summer’s Hottest Onscreen Romance?

Sure, we’re into weepy deathbed monologues, blood-squirting massacres and the occasional merman scene or two (#CabinInTheWoods4ever), but what we really love to see on the big screen is, well, love. Lucky for us, the summer movie season is always packed with romance, whether it be of the action or indie variety. Not that we’re picky — we eat it all up, thank you very much.

This summer’s crop of movies offers up a buffet of romantic relationships sure to suit even the most critical of tastes. At the core of The Amazing Spider-Man is the romance between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, played by real-life loves Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. And of course what would a comedy about rippling male strippers (Magic Mike) be without a love story between the beefy protagonist (Channing Tatum) and his protegee’s sister (newcomer Cody Horn)?

View Photo Gallery

But equally intriguing are the more unconventional relationships coming to the big screen as the weather warms up. Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg play that perfect couple everyone loves in Celeste & Jesse Forever, who shock their friends when they decide to divorce. In Savages, Taylor Kitsch and Aaron Johnson play two dudes who band together to rescue their kidnapped girlfriend (Blake Lively). That’s right – they both date her. But the onscreen pairing we’re most pumped for? Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward in Wes Anderson‘s Moonrise Kingdom, in which they play two tweens who fall in love and plot – and execute – their escape from their small New England town.

There’s movie love for everyone out there, so what’s your favorite onscreen pairing this season? Poll it up below!

Charlize Theron, Tom Hiddleston, Tom Hardy: Who Will Be This Summer’s Most Badass Movie Villain?

Sorry, Snow White. Nothing personal, Thor. Of course we still love you, the Batman. We always will. It’s just that when it comes to summer movies, we love a glowering villain as much as we love a virtuous hero. Maybe a little more. Maybe … a lot more.

Luckily for us (and you!), this summer’s films are jam-packed with some of the most malevolent evil characters imaginable, ready to face off against the hottest heroes and heroines from May to August. Tom Hiddleston reprises his Thor role as power-hungry extraterrestrial Loki in this week’s The Avengers, while Flight of the Concords’ Jemaine Clement breaks Will Smith‘s stride as an easy-riding alien by the name of Boris in Men in Black III. Closer to home (and to your childhood nightmares), Queen Charlize Theron goes after Kristen Stewart‘s heart (not in the romantic way) in Snow White and the Huntsman, while Eva Green does the same to Johnny Depp (in both the romantic and evil way?) as smitten witch Angelique Bouchard in Dark Shadows.

View Photo Gallery

Of course, not every memorable villain has to be from another planet or or the fairy-tale realm. Some of them can be regular ol’ criminal masterminds, like Salma Hayek‘s drug kingpin Elena in Savages, Faran Tahir‘s Cobra Commander in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Bryan Cranston‘s Vilos Cohaagen in the Total Recall remake and Edward Norton‘s Byer in The Bourne Legacy. We are especially psyched to see Tom Hardy‘s Bane grapple the Caped Crusader in The Dark Knight Rises while Rhys Ifans takes on Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-Man. Because what’s an epic battle scene with out an epic villain? A 15-second slap fight?

Not that every villain has to be locked in life-or-death combat, mind you. Some of them are just maniacally vain. Sacha Baron Cohen‘s General Aladeen in The Dictator, anyone? Catherine Zeta-Jones‘ high-strung Patricia Whitmore will also be inflicting all the damage she can against the demon that is rock in Rock of Ages, while Adam Sandler only accidentally ruins his son Andy Samberg‘s wedding/marriage/life. That being said, if you somehow get your only child to throw up on his fiance’s wedding dress … yeah, you’re the bad guy.

Finally, we have to give props to those villains who don’t even come in a humanoid package. We are dying to see what the surprisingly awesome-looking Battleship aliens look like under their masks (Weird eyes? Check! Four-fingered hand? Check!), and we’re all ready to take our hats off to the Piranhas 3DD piranhas. Not only are they blood-thirsty, they are also responsible for Ving Rhames‘ character having machine gun legs. What aren’t villains good for? Which big bad has your ticket-buying hands shaking with anticipation this summer? Check out our gallery of villainy, and cast your vote. Just remember: When it comes to picking a favorite archnemesis, there is no wrong choice.
