Ben Affleck is back in the spotlight now that his film Argo is doing the promotions rounds. Critics are already fawning over the movie, so that’s a good sign. He’s also on the cover of The Hollywood Reporter this week and the subject of an indepth interview which deals a lot with, not just the film, but the difference of who he is now — chilled husband and father — with his past as a party boy. That included going to rehab at 29, of which he says, “ went to rehab for being 29 and partying too much and not having a lot of boundaries and to clear my head and try to get some idea of who I wanted to be. It was more a ‘let me get myself straight,’ before it became a rite of passage.” His past also includes his ex-girlfriends, who he’s still in touch with, including Gwyneth Paltrow, his high school girlfriend, Cheyenne Rothman, and more importantly, the other half of the original “Bennifer” — Jennifer Lopez. It’s good to know that Ben’s the kind of guy who doesn’t hold on to anything bad, like messy break-ups, and is actually on friendly terms with all three ladies. Mostly, J.Lo, and he opens up about their current relatioship in this piece, revealing, “We don’t have the kind of relationship where she relies on me for advice, but we do have the kind of relationship where there’ll be an e-mail saying, ‘Oh, your movie looks great.’ I remember when she got American Idol. I said: ‘This was really smart. Good luck.’ I touch base. I respect her. I like her. She’s put up with some stuff that was unfair in her life, and I’m really pleased to see her successful.” And here we were thinking that there was a morotorium on all things Lopez when the main Jennifer (Jennifer Garner, his wife) entered his life!

Bradley Cooper can’t look anything but hot, and this cover of The Hollywood Reporter — out September 14 — proves that statement. But the photograph also looks quite pensive, probably because it needed to reflect the tone of the piece on the actor inside the magazine. His Hangover director, Todd Phillips, has this to say about him, “He is ridiculously different in real life. People think he is just playing a version of himself, and that couldn’t be further from the truth. He is very vulnerable — insecure is not the right word — and that character is just straight-up confident. And there’s a warmth to him you would never know.” And then comes the revelation that surprises us. Cooper himself reveals, “I don’t drink or do drugs at all anymore. Being sober helps a great deal.” He apparently gave them both up when he was 29 years old, when he realized they were too much for him to handle.
Case in point, this experience, Cooper relates, “I was at a party and deliberately bashed my head on the concrete floor — like, ‘Hey, look how tough I am!’ And I came up, and blood dripped down. And then I did it again. I spent the night at St. Vincent’s Hospital with a sock of ice, waiting for them to stitch me up.” Woah. Did you know this about him? We didn’t? We’ve only seen Bradley’s “Sexiest Man Alive ” avatar! The confessional tone of the article continues as he adds, “I was so concerned what you thought of me, how I was coming across, how I would survive the day. I always felt like an outsider. I just lived in my head. I realized I wasn’t going to live up to my potential, and that scared the hell out of me. I thought, ‘Wow, I’m actually gonna ruin my life; I’m really gonna ruin it.’ ” Luckily, he got his act together and proceeded to have a really kick-ass career. Which is what brings him, looking all casually sexy in jeans and a white T-shirt, to this cover. Things worked out for everyone!

We’re always happy when we see Christina Hendricks on the cover of a magazine. More, we say! She is, in our opinion, one of the sexiest women on the planet. You know who else agrees with us? Esquire who named Christina their “best-looking woman in America” in 2010. The Hollywood Reporter is on board as well, putting the lovely actress on their cover this week. We love the fact that they’ve been shining the spotlight on strong, female actors recently. Remember the cover with all the TV actresses last week? This is the perfect time to have Christina — who looks starkly beautiful in a low-cut, long-sleeved black dress — on the face of the magazine as well. Have you been watching Mad Men recently? Without giving anything away, our jaws have been hitting the floor, especially with the last two episodes.
Don’t read the piece if you haven’t watched, because the first paragraph itself has a major spoiler. But, the main body of the article is broader deals with everything about her role as Joan Holloway on the show and her castmate’s opinions about her — as a character and as a woman. “I thought Joan was such a bitch, and I struggled sometimes trying to make her as real as possible because I thought, who would be so mean?” says Christina. John Slattery, who plays Roger Sterling, provides another opinion. “People want to think because of how stunning she is that she’s just this torpedo, but she’s way more complicated than that, ” he says, adding, “My first scene was walking in with Don Draper at the end of a scene in which she’s telling Peggy to, ‘Go home, take a paper bag, tear out two eye holes and put it over your head.’ I didn’t know what I was getting myself into until I saw her. It was that scene that kind of woke me up to the potential for this whole thing.” Now, watch the episodes if you haven’t already so we can discuss more!
