We always knew we liked Al Roker. That charming smile, that warm laugh, that total lack of filter. We also knew we were leery of gastric bypass surgery. Turns out, we were right on all accounts, as evidenced by the fact that…um…Al Roker accidentally pooped his pants at the White House. While that’s certainly better than intentionally pooping your pants at the White House, it’s both amazing and shocking to hear the Today Show weatherman admit to going Code Brown with the President of the United States in the next room. Apparently it all started after Al allegedly ate something outside of the dietary restrictions set following his surgery. “And as I’m walking to the press room, I think I gotta pass a little gas here. So, I’m walking by myself, who’s gonna know, only, a little something extra came out,” Al admits to Dateline‘s Dr. Nancy Snyderman. “I pooped in my pants. Not horribly, but enough that I knew.” Not. Horribly. Not horribly, but enough that everyone in the free world would one day know.
It’s a problem that affects every relationship at some point: you made a sex tape a bunch of years ago, and your big mouth rapper boyfriend keeps bringing it up every chance he gets, even spinning a verse about it in his newest hit song. And then your mom/manager gets pissed at him because mentioning your scandalous past is potentially damaging to your multimillion dollar monolithic media brand. It happens all the time, you guys! What do you do!?
It’s a situation familiar to all of us, and now Kim Kardashian is in a sticky spot. Kim’s momager Kris Jenner is reportedly furious at boyfriend Kanye West for consistently bringing the infamous sex tape with Ray J back into the spotlight, after many years of trying to sweep it under the rug. Yeezy made reference to the career making porn in his new track “Clique” and made headlines yesterday by admitting that he would watch the tape while having sex with other girlfriends.
“Kris had stern words with Kanye when she saw that he said he would put Kim’s sex tape on while romping with other women,” a source told RadarOnline. “She thinks it’s a disrespectful claim and told Kanye to stop talking about it at every given opportunity…By bringing up the past, Kanye is making it worse for Kim, but he doesn’t see it as that much of a big deal.” This puts Kim in the tough spot of smoothing things out between her mom and her boyfriend. Oh, and she also still has a pretty embarrassing sex tape floating around. All in all, not a great situation for Kim K.
Lolo Jones finished a disappointing fourth place in yesterday’s 100m hurdles final and tweeted that she was “brokenhearted” about not medaling in her only Olympic event. But in her interview with Today this morning, that wasn’t what made her tear up.
“I know I had the best race of my season,” she said, putting a more positive spin on the race. “Not the best race of my life, but I had the best race of my year, so I just try to look at that. It doesn’t take away from the pain that I was close to once again having a medal and not getting it.”
What really tore her up, however, was a New York Times story that ran over the weekend, criticizing the hype surrounding her for being “based not on achievement but on her exotic beauty and on a sad and cynical marketing campaign.” Australian Sally Pearson (who did in fact win gold yesterday) and Americans Dawn Harper and Kellie Wells (silver and bronze), were more favored in the race and should have received more attention, the story argued.
“They didn’t even do their research, calling me the Anna Kournikova of track,” Jones told Today’s Savannah Guthrie this morning. “I have the American record. I am the American record holder indoors, I have two world indoor titles. Just because I don’t boast about these things, I don’t think I should be ripped apart by media. I laid it out there, fought hard for my country and it’s just a shame that I have to deal with so much backlash when I’m already so brokenhearted as it is.” Read more…
Ann Curry finally made it official. In a tearful announcement this morning, she told Today viewers that it would be her last morning as co-host of the show. After a year of co-hosting the show, she’ll be taking on a role as “TODAY Anchor at Large and National and International Correspondent.” Many have speculated that she was to blame for the morning show losing its #1 spot in the ratings for the first time in 16 years. She doesn’t think so and told USA Today that she wishes she had more time to work out the “kinks.”.
Whether or not you’re relieved someone else (maybe Savannah Guthrie) will be joining Matt Lauer on the couch every morning, you can’t deny one thing that will be sorely missed when Curry goes off to be “at large” or whatever it is she’s doing: Her colorful, daring style. She told USA Today that her fashion statements were part of her commitment to viewers, “I’ve tried very hard to be what they need — even in the crazy-colored highlighter-toned dresses I wear that you could probably see from outer space. I’ve worn them because I know every one of us needs a little brightness in the morning.”
Here is a look back at some of the brightness (and a few bits of black and white) that Curry has brought to the show for the past year:
Ann Curry’s out and Savannah Guthrie is in on the Today show — well, as soon as NBC’s lawyers can get Curry’s contract figured out, according to TMZ and several other sources.
Ann is only in her first year of a three-year contract as co-host, under which she’s supposed to make $10 million a year. She reportedly wants the remaining $20 million, but NBC wants to give her a foreign correspondent position instead. The other option is that NBC would give Curry the money, but under the condition that she doesn’t take a new job for the next two years.
But onto what’s more important, getting to know Savannah Guthrie! The beautiful, 40-year-old former lawyer graduated Magna Cum Laude from Georgetown Law Center, and she’s a member of the bar in Washington and Arizona. She got her TV start as a legal analyst in Arizona, Missouri and Washington before graduating to Court TV and then, in 2007, to NBC, where she’s currently co-hosting the third hour of the show. Decent resume, right? Read more…
We already gave you a preview of Bobby Brown’s interview with Today’s Matt Lauer, in which the singer attempts to clear his name by dispelling the age-old rumors that he was the cause of Whitney Houston’s addiction. Now we have video of the sitdown, and it’s, of course, even more heartbreaking. In addition to recounting how well she looked the week prior to her death, he tells Lauer that he still asks himself if he could have helped her more.
“Maybe I could have done something different. You know?” he says. “To ensure she had a longer life. But you have to want it.”
Although happily engaged, he had no qualms expressing the love he had for his ex-wife of 14 years. Brown’s perception is that the couple had a great and “beautiful” relationship. “I can honestly say that I loved that woman with everything that I am,” he admitted. “I truly and genuinely love that woman. And I still love her to this day.” He said it’s no secret (not even to his fiancee) how he felt about Whitney. “I was in love with her deeply,” he says of his late ex.
It’s commendable for Brown to take the high road by only having good things to say about Houston. From the outside looking in the couple may have appeared to be a little rough around the edges. But that’s not to say the love they had for each other wasn’t real. Take a look at the couple during the happier times of their marriage.
Oh, man, Today producers, you’ve done it this time. Maybe. Alec Baldwin has been posting all morning about how the morning show had a crew camped outside his apartment building to tape a segment about his accused stalker, Genevieve Sabourin. And the latest one sounds like he’s directing his ire at the entire network, all but saying that he’s leaving 30 Rock:
Actually, Baldwin began tweeting about journalists at his place late last night: “Outside my apt, “journalists” from the Post camped out to talk to me about stalking. They camped out all day. Wait. Isn’t that…….?” Read more…
Matt Lauer could barely suppress his gleeful guffaws this morning on the Today show while discussing the Zac Efron condom-drop incident. Then again, how often do you hear celebs talk about safe sex? Just about never? If they have to giggle behind their hands in order to do it, then chuckle away, fellas! “I never had a pocket-checking policy prior to going onto the red carpet before, but now we fully instated one!” a blushing Efron said about his faux pas at The Lorax premiere. He even teased Lauer about uttering the c-word (“condom,” people): “It was really hard for you to say!” Matt then made an incredibly dumb joke about Zac’s “production company.” Jeez, it’s like we’re taking high school sex ed all over again. Except now all our classmates are grown men wearing HD makeup!
That being said, if something so snicker-inducing had to happen at a film premiere, we’re glad it was The Lorax. The entire movie is about being responsible, and what’s more responsible than preventing the spread of STDs? Just about nothing? “It’s a great message to add to the many messages in the film!” Zac joked. We’re sure if the Lorax had been drawn with genitals, he would completely agree.
Whoa, guys. Maybe we drank Matt Lauer’s Kool-Aid, but we’re finding ourselves completely blown away by Lindsay Lohan’s interview on Today this morning. Disconcerting plastic surgery and bangs aside, Lindsay looked poised, confident and just the right amount of humbled as she spoke openly about the past couple years and how she plans to rehabilitate her image after feeling like she’s rehabilitated her self.
“This last whirlwind of experiences this past year and a half, I’ve kind of just taken a step back and been like, I’m not doing what I love to do and I need to find a way to find that balance again,” she said. As if she were speaking before a judge, or maybe a casting director, Lindsay repeated how much she wants to work again and acknowledged that she has to do a lot to make people want to hire her.
“I think that takes time. It takes actions. I need to go through the process of proving myself. With SNL, with being on time, keeping my … stuff together,” she said, admitting that she emailed Lorne Michaels repeatedly to convince him to have her host this week’s episode. Read more…
Much to the delight of “Robsten” believers worldwide, as Today host Ann Curry congratulated Robert Pattinson on his many successes, she included snagging his “beautiful girlfriend.” While it’s pretty obvious at this point that he and Kristen Stewart are in a serious relationship (Bear and all!), we can’t help but get giddy when the subject is openly discussed. One mystery remains…did Ann Curry just naively bring up Kristen without knowing they were still playing the “secret lovers” game, or was it a strategic slip to make Rob (adorably) blush?
