Many a Twi-Hard heart was aflutter during tonight’s MTV Video Music Awards, counting the seconds to the promised Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 sneak peek. Naturally it was held until well into the show, and now we’re left wondering…was it worth the wait? Maybe we’re hitting the early stages of Twilight burnout (say it ain’t so!) or maybe it really was the same material we’ve seen mixed up a bit. We’ve pulled nine GIFs to illustrate loop-style what we learned, or perhaps just reviewed.
1. There will be blood, yes, and also sponsorship.
Who arrives at their destination after a cross-continental flight and looks better than when they took off? Kristen Stewart, naturally. Late last night, the actress landed in Toronto, where she’ll attend the Toronto International Film Festival screening of On the Road today. It will be her first public appearance since that whole traumatic mess blew up in July, so she was understandably press shy as the paps snapped her before taking off and after landing. Still, she looked pretty damn good in her T-shirt, jeans, leather jacket, dark-framed glasses and loose, wavy hair. Unfortunately, she made one mistake that People and Radar have already pounced on: That “Irie” T-shirt is one that maybe-ex-boyfriend Robert Pattinson was photographed wearing when he walked his dog last year. And god, when you think about it, this is really both devastating and embarrassing.
For some of you, the pinnacle of all things Twilight was the honeymoon scene in Breaking Dawn – Part 1. Personally, I’ve been dying for the ultimate Cullen-Volturi showdown since, oh, August 2008. It sounds like the folks behind the film were looking forward to it too. In an interview with MTV News, director Bill Condon gave a few details about some of the effects that they’re employing to illustrate the vampires’ various supernatural abilities. And we thought we couldn’t be more excited for this movie.
“Oh man, there are so many [effects] that are so beautiful,” he said. “I love the way, it’s very creepy, but I love the way that Alec’s mist looks. He has that mist that can make you blind, deaf and dumb, so that’s looking really good. It feels like the best Hammer [horror] movie you’ve ever seen. It’s a little different [type of mist] and sort of has tentacles that can get inside you and all that stuff.”
Ooh, that does sound creepy. So does the effect their using to show of Renesmee’s (Mackenzie Foy) special skill. “Her power, she touches somebody and she can show them what’s in her head and that you develop. There are some visual things, but a lot of that is done through Carter Burwell’s score, but then just recently in the mixing Dane Davis, who is a brilliant sound designer, he did The Matrix and so many other movies, he had her just speak and read poetry and things like that, and he’s turned it into hundreds of tracks. You don’t actually hear words but it becomes the chattering of her [voice], it’s a very abstract effect that I’ve never heard before. It’s really cool.” Read more…
Imagine, if you would, a time before we ever knew that Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson were a real-life couple. A time when they were fresh new faces to most of us, the perfect embodiment of characters that had previously lived only in our heads after we’d become obsessed with Stephenie Meyer‘s Twilight books. A time when it was just exciting enough to imagine how much passion they’d bring to the screen as Edward and Bella. Ooof. It’s hard, we know, but it seems like we need to go back to those days and completely separate what we know of the real-life drama between Kristen and Robert. We — and probably the folks at Summit Entertainment — hope that these newly released stills from Breaking Dawn – Part 2 will remind us all that the fictional Edward and Bella are still going to get their happily ever after. That is, of course, after they gather up all their special allies and face down the threat of the Volturi who are convinced that Renesmee represents the ultimate violation of vampire law. With the exception of the photo of Bella showing her daughter her new locket and a pic of Meyer in that legendary field of flowers, these pics aren’t entirely new; they all debuted in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly. But they’re new to our site, and we’re going to enjoy every last pixel of them like they’re our very own pints of Cinnamon Toast Crunch-flavored Ben and Jerry’s. (OMG, B&J, you need to make that a thing.)
We are torn as to how to interpret Condon’s words. The cynic in us could read that as: He thinks their entire relationship was staged, just for the benefit of the Twilight franchise. Or he could be saying actors who play onscreen couples don’t belong together, so their breakup is a good thing. Third: People need to back off and be reminded that their on- and off-screen love affair are two separate things, and our only business is with the former. And, OK, maybe what he said after that supports our last theory:
“Both of these actors gave heart and soul to the Twilight movies, not only during shooting, but also by navigating so graciously the whole life-in-a-fishbowl aspect of the phenomenon,” he said. “Above all they have always shown great respect for the fans who made these movies such a success. Now it’s time that some of that respect be returned to them.”
Either way, this other quote from the issue is super depressing. At a roundtable interview, Pattinson talked about how annoyingly rational Edward remained through any crisis. And when Stewart in turn asked him what he learned from that, he replied, “Don’t be pragmatic. Be an emotional idiot.” Oh, dear.
The past week has been a tumultuous one for Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and their fans, after the actress confirmed (and quickly apologized) that she had cheated on her boyfriend and Twilight co-star with her Snow White and the Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders. Currently every celebrity publication has a jillion stories up about the affair and the couple’s possible split, filled with anonymous sources and loads of speculation. So let’s walk away from the gossip for a bit and take a look at what lies ahead for each of the actors and their careers. While their personal lives might be stuck in a rough patch at the moment, their creative pursuits have never been better, with new roles (on- and off-screen) and possible awards-season appearances on the horizon. Consider this a pleasant palate cleanser from that toxic rumor mill that’s currently churning away extra hard right now.
Of course, the short answer is “not too well.” But rather than pile on the Internet fervor over NuttyMadam’s now-viral Youtube reaction, we turned to some of the superfans we’ve known and loved for a while now. A day after Kristen Stewart and Rupert Sanders issued devastating apologies for their “indescretion,” our own Kate Spencer seems to have regained her footing, at least. But we’ve been hearing stories of some Robsten devotees spontaneously vomiting upon hearing the news. And that’s pretty understandable: Given the level of devotion they have (had?) for Stewart, this can feel like a really personal loss. What we weren’t expecting is the way some bloggers have pulled the plug on the endeavor (at least temporarily), or are simply maintaining radio silence.
“As Kristen takes this time for herself and those closest to her, we will use this opportunity to take a break from blogging and try to regain the piece of us that was lost the last few days,” the administrators of Kristen Stewart News wrote in a post today. “A hiatus will allow us to figure out the best way to move forward.”
Earlier tonight, Us Weekly delivered a bombshell that has sent shock waves through the tight-knit Twilightcommunity. On the cover of its latest issue, which hits newsstands on Friday, the magazine alleges that Kristen Stewart cheated on her longtime romantic companion, Robert Pattinson, with her (very married) Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders. The magazine apparently has photographic evidence of the “marathon makeout session” that took place between the 22-year-old Stewart and the 41-year-old Sanders on July 17 (just five short days after KStew and RPattz made all sorts of cute faces at each other at the Breaking Dawn, Part 2 press conference at Comic-Con).
If Kristen and Rob had any idea this news was going to break, they certainly did not show it when they appeared together at the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday night. Of course, there’s a very real possibility that these pictures have somehow been taken out of context by Us, but either way, we are feeling more than a little devastated tonight. Neither KStew nor RPattz has issued any official statement as yet (nor has Rupert Sanders), but we will definitely keep you posted if (when?) they do. However, a source told People that “Kristen is absolutely devastated. It was a mistake and a complete lapse in judgment. She wasn’t having an affair with Rupert. It was just a fleeting moment that shouldn’t have happened.” Uh-oh, that does not bode well. Either way…
The surfboards were being handed out at seemingly record speed at the 2012 Teen Choice Awards on Sunday night. Without a DVR, we’d hardly have been able to catch the many awards picked up by Justin Bieber, The Vampire Diaries crew or, of course The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1. Even so, a bunch of awards on the nominations list weren’t even mentioned (sorry Summer TV Show and Male Country Artist!). We’ll try to come back and update this list when all of those poor, neglected winners are announced.

It’s no surprise that Twilight-mania was the focus of our attention today at San Diego Comic-Con — it is, after all it was the beginning of the end of an era, for the saga as well as for VH1 Celebrity and all the other blogs that have basically devolved into fangirls for the past four years. But while Kristen Stewart and company were getting teary-eyed about their last Con as a group, Twilight mastermind Stephenie Meyer swooped in to remind us that there are many other things in the world to fangirl over, namely, another thing she created: The Host. People were already filing out of Hall H when Stephenie got back on the mic and announced that she and Andrew Niccol, the director of her next adaptation, were ready to show fans the first real sneak peek of the alien-invasion flick. That certainly got our attention away from needing to hunt down some convention-center junk food. Check out Kate Spencer and I recapping all our favorite moments of day one in the video above (and me calling actors “hot” maybe a few too many times). Now, here are five things that gave us goosebumps and reminded us that, yes, there will be life after Twilight:
1. The Soul eyes look awesome. After hearing the Twilight crew complain that the contact lenses were kinda the hardest part about making the films, we were worried about this. For the uninitiated, the book is about people possessed by alien creatures called Souls, which give their hosts’ eyes a weird silver halo. Instead of that weird blank stare colored contacts can give actors, these made them just seem creepily serene, as they should.
2. It is PACKED with action. The first scene is just like the book, showing Melanie being chased and jumping into an air shaft. And what we saw ended with a dramatic car/truck/helicopter chase.
3. Max Irons is super hot. Especially when making out with Saoirse Ronan in the rain. Read more…
