While the Twi-hard world struggles to put the pieces back together following last week’s Kristen Stewart cheating news, fans of another vampire couple might be understandably wary of putting too much faith in their real-life romance. So far as we know, The Vampire Diaries stars Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder are still going strong. (And we’re reeeeallly hoping that now that Elena is a vampire, she’ll follow in the L.J. Smith books’ plot and fully fall for Damon onscreen too.) But that doesn’t mean that there are wedding bells in their near future, either.
“Eventually I am going to marry and have a family but not anytime soon,” she told Canada’s Fashion magazine, via UsMagazine.com. “I’m not going to pull a Miley.” Read more…
The surfboards were being handed out at seemingly record speed at the 2012 Teen Choice Awards on Sunday night. Without a DVR, we’d hardly have been able to catch the many awards picked up by Justin Bieber, The Vampire Diaries crew or, of course The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1. Even so, a bunch of awards on the nominations list weren’t even mentioned (sorry Summer TV Show and Male Country Artist!). We’ll try to come back and update this list when all of those poor, neglected winners are announced.

“When do you ever get to see Alan Ball and Chris Meloni doing body rolls?” Joe Manganiello asked me shortly after the True Blood panel. When but at Comic-Con? After the trailer shown at the panel seemed to indicate that Pam is making Tara into a stripper, Joe, of course, took the opportunity to demonstrate his Magic Mike skills. And mayhem ensued (as in show creator Ball stood on his chair to show his moves, and Meloni did his version later, too).
The crowd was already worked up about sexy supes after the Vampire Diaries panel, where the stars themselves brought up all sorts of naughty ideas. Zack Roerig suggested that Elena could use Matt’s blood, or his body, for comfort now that she’s a vampire, and then went on to say he thinks Matt should get it on with Caroline’s mom, Sheriff Forbes. Not to be outdone, Paul Wesley said Elijah and Stefan should hook up. Later on, he floated the theory that vampire sex lasts only half a second, so it could even be done in line at Starbucks. That lead Ian Somerhalder to quip that vampire sex had happened right there in front of the audience and we didn’t even know it. Oh, we’d know it, Ian. We were watching you veeerry closely. If you’re like me, you haven’t entirely come to terms with the loss of Alaric on The Vampire Diaries. Good thing we don’t have to miss actor Matt Davis for very long: He’s got the lead in the CW’s mid-season drama Cult. The suspenseful mystery is hard to summarize, even for its stars, but let’s just say it’s a show about a TV show about a cult, whose superfans suddenly appear to be in grave danger. The Lost-like air of mystery already has the show gaining buzz at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, which gave Davis the perfect excuse to get to hang out with his Vampire Diaries pals while promoting his new gig. Not to make him feel sad or anything, but I had to ask him what he misses most about being in Mystic Falls.
“My friends. My family. After three years, I’ve become so close with everyone, it breaks my heart to think that I’m not out with them right now,” he told me, a little wistfully. “I’ll see them here, which is great. I love that [Cult] has come as far as it has, that it’s being well received, that we’re at Comic-Con so it’s paralleling them. It’s a good way to segue out of a show like Vampire Diaries.” Read more…
You know what’s great about informal awards shows like the Teen Choice Awards? They have complete freedom to make up categories as they go along, thus ensuring that the hottest, most fan-favoritest stars of the moment will show up and take home some hardware. And no one will complain, ever. Especially as we look at the “second round” of nominees for the TCAs, which take place July 22. You can go here to see the complete list. But we’ll give you the highlights you care about most:
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 now has 11 nods, including the Choice Movie: Romance, Actor and Actress: Romance (Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, who already have nods for Sci Fi/Fantasy), Liplock, and Scene Stealer: Male (Kellan Lutz) and Female (Nikki Reed).
The Vampire Diaries‘ count is up to eight, with Villain (Joseph Morgan), and Male and Female Scene Stealers (Candice Accola and Michael Trevino).
And, in keeping with the zeitgeist of the year, the TCAs are shaping up to be one long celebration of Channing Tatum. He’s got six nominations to his name. In addition to his previously announced nods for Movie Actor: Drama (for The Vow) and Movie Actor: Comedy (for 21 Jump Street), he’s also now nominated for Movie Actor: Romance (The Vow again), Liplock (The Vow, with Rachel McAdams), Chemistry and Hissy Fit (for 21 Jump Street, with Jonah Hill).
The biggest question now: Will a third round of nominations include a category for Best Male Stripper Movie? Oh, wait. Is that weird when we’re talking about “Teen” choice? Sorry.
A few ladies from 90210 were also spotted — Shenae Grimes, Jessica Stroup and Jessica Lowndes. These were by no means the only shows that the CW presented. Rachel Bilson was there, pretty in Chanel, for Hart of Dixie, along with co-star Jaime King who looked tropical in a skirt and bandeau top by Proenza Schouler. AnnaSophia Robb was there scoring for The Carrie Diairies in a vintage-looking alice + olivia by Stacey Bendet dress with YSL heels. Have a look at our gallery to see who else was there! (And don’t miss our gallery of all the hot stars of fall’s new network shows.)
I’m not sure what hurts more after last night’s season three finale of The Vampire Diaries, my eyes from all the crying or my neck from all the head-spinning. Like every finale (and yeah, every other EPISODE) the show has given us before, this was a game changer for Elena, the Salvatores, their friends and their enemies. So, if you haven’t seen the episode yet, you definitely should stop reading now.
Though it was pure torment, I absolutely loved how everytime I started sobbing about a character dying, the next scene showed them to be alive and well. Perhaps because of all those twists, I was left feeling just a bit unsure about what went down after all. Here are my biggest questions — and a few answers.
1. Wait, so who’s alive and who’s dead now? And which actors aren’t coming back next season?Read more…
Big win for Team Coco! Nina Dobrev was on Conan O’Brien‘s show last night, to build up today’s season finale of The Vampire Diaries. We were wondering why she chose to wear a pair of formal shorts for the interview, but as the episode unfolded, we figured out just why. It’s also directly related to why Conan himself said, “Best job in the world!” at the end of the segment. He actually got Nina to get down on her hands and knees to do a super-bendy yoga move called “The Scorpion” on the show!
Nina’s been practicing yoga for years, FYI. Best of all, she had to use Conan as a “human wall” to balance her legs on. And then used his knees to tuck her feet in as she bent them over, reminiscent of a scorpion’s tail. Not only did Conan look like he couldn’t believe his luck, but the expression on guest Joel McHale‘s face was priceless too, especially when Nina’s legs go shooting up. He couldn’t help but exclaim, “This is awesome.” It is awesome, guys, and it’s all in the video above. Her boyfriend, Ian Somerhalder is a lucky, lucky man.
It feels very bittersweet to be talking about the season finale of The Vampire Diaries when we have four more episodes to go — but in vampire time four weeks must feel like a blink, so I guess it’s not too soon. When Klaus himself, Joseph Morgan, stopped by the VH1 offices earlier this week, we knew he wasn’t going to give us actual details about what will go down between the Originals, the Salvatores and the rest of the Mystic Falls gang at the end of the show’s third season. Still, could he at least tell us how he reacted when he read the script?
“There was no one there with me when I got the script, but I tell you I got goose bumps reading it,” Morgan told us. “I know people have standard things that they say … but I genuinely, actually had a physical reaction to reading it.”
But like every frustrating, exhilarating, WTF-inducing TVD finale and mid-season finale before it, we will have mixed emotions, Morgan warns. Read more…
What is it with those Vampire Diaries boys? We all know about Ian Somerhalder’s tireless efforts to basically save the world with his foundation, but he’s not the only Mystic Falls resident putting his vampire skills of persuasion to very good use. For the second year in a row, Joseph Morgan, who plays the not-so-charitable Original vamp Klaus, is asking fans to help him raise money for Positive Women for his birthday on May 16. The organization’s mission is to empower women and eradicate poverty in Swaziland.
“I actually started supporting Positive Women just before I got the role in Vampire Diaries,” Morgan told us. “I put out a Youtube video encouraging people to donate and of course no one watched it because no one knew who I was, and then suddenly I got the role of Klaus and it became the fifth-most watched video in the NGO because that was the only footage of me talking!” Read more…
