Kate Winslet/Jeremy Sisto Titanic Screen Test Explains Why They Went With Leo After All

Seeing as how Jeremy Sisto was still riding high off his Clueless success in the mid-nineties, it’s no wonder director James Cameron was hoping to snag him for the role of Titanic hottie Jack. Having just watched Kate Winslet‘s first screen test from the Titanic 3D Blue-Ray edition, however, we completely understand why Cameron went with Leonardo DiCaprio. While 21-year-old Jeremy is a total Baldwin, he’s a little too low-key and mumbly for a sweeping love story that ends with his corpse sinking into the frigid Atlantic. We also don’t think he could have gotten through the raucous Irish jig scene without a little eye-rolling. Winslet on the other hand? Pure porcelain-and-crimson perfection. Who wouldn’t want to see her sweaty hand slap the window of a Model T Ford?

Not that the dialogue is helping Jeremy any. “Have you ever torn apart a rose?” Wha? That’s a hard line for anyone to make romantic. Then again, considering this scene ends up being a pivotal moment in their budding romance, we (and our seventh-grade selves) are glad they held out for Leo.

15 Years After Setting Sail, Check In With The Cast Of Titanic

100 years after setting off on her doomed voyage, the Titanic is back in the headlines and back on the big screen! In honor of the ill-fated ocean liner’s centennial anniversary, director James Cameron has sent his record breaking blockbuster Titanic into another round of theatrical release. But this time the larger than life spectacle gets the 3-D treatment, so you’ll be able to see that steamy car love-scene like never before!

It’s hard to believe it’s been 15 years since the film first took the world (and the Oscars) by storm. It made an even-bigger star out of Leonardo DiCaprio, brought Kate Winslet to worldwide prominence, and probably bought James Cameron a couple dozen yachts or something. But despite the boatload of success stories, many faces from Titanic have been lost in the great sea of Hollywood bit parts. Billy Zane, where art thou!? Never fear, movie fans; we’ve managed to track down all of your Titanic favorites. Full speed a head to the gallery below to see how they look, and what they’ve been up to!

Kate Winslet Shares Her Thoughts About Leonardo DiCaprio Getting “Fatter”

As any girl who was below the age of 100 at the time might remember, Kate Winslet received a lot of attention, good and bad, for her slightly larger than Hollywood average curves during Titanic‘s initial release  in 1997. This time around, it’s her costar Leonardo DiCaprio who’s having his voluptuousness critiqued…by Winslet! “We do look very different, we’re older,” the Carnage actress told iTV’s Daybreak in an interview about Titanic 3D. “Leo’s 37, I’m 36 — we were 21 and 22 when we made that film. You know, he’s fatter now — I’m thinner.” Aw, that’s not fair! Look at him. Leo was barely through puberty when he had to make every tween in America swoon and drowned in the Atlantic!

Of course, Winslet is pretty well-known as a non-stop geyser of hilariously inappropriate comments, though up until now they’ve almost all been self-deprecating. “My Heart Will Go On,” her sex scenes, the contents of her stomach: Kate couldn’t hold back anything if she tried! Of course, she isn’t the first person to discuss Leo’s slightly rounder physique in public. “Some of those pounds on later Hoover were not prosthetic. I’ll say it. Leo got a little fat,” joked J. Edgar screenwriter Dustin Lance Black last fall. See, Kate? Leo’s probably still working off that J. Edgar weight. It’s a historical fact that the first director of the FBI had a gigantic apple head!

“My Heart Will Go On”: Just Another Part Of Titanic That Makes Kate Winslet Barf

Back in seventh grade, you better believe we’d start bawling the second we heard those first flutey notes of Celine Dion‘s “My Heart Will Go On.” After hearing it for the millionth time, however, even our squishy adolescent brains started to sour on the Titanic soundtrack. Kate Winslet knows what we’re talking about! “I wish I could say, ‘Oh listen, everybody! It’s the Celine Dion song!’ But I don’t,” Winslet admitted to MTV News about the newly re-released movie and soundtrack. “I just have to sit there, you know, kind of straight-faced with a massive internal eye roll.” While the Academy Award-winning ballad apparently makes Kate “feel like throwing up,” it’s not the only element of the newly released Titantic 3D that gives the actress a serious case of the dry heaves, as Winslet has made very, very clear in recent interviews:

  • “Even my American accent, I can’t listen to it. It’s awful. Hopefully it’s so much better now. It sounds terribly self indulgent but actors do tend to be very self-critical. I have a hard time watching any of my performances, but watching Titanic I was just like ‘Oh God, I want to do that again,’” Winslet joked with the Telegraph. “Every single scene, I’m like ‘Really, really? You did it like that? Oh my God.’”

Justin Bieber Rents Arena To Watch Titanic With Selena Gomez

Although only seventeen, Justin Bieber has just raised the bar for date nights, and revolutionized the concept of “dinner and a movie” forever. The teen singer rented out all of L.A.’s Staples Center on Friday night to watch Titanic with his lady love, Selena Gomez. Somewhere, James Cameron is shedding a single tear. Friends of the Biebs told TMZ that he got the idea after watching Mr. Deeds, in which Adam Sandler has a surprise date with Winona Ryder at an empty Madison Square Garden. But while Sandler only plays a romantic millionaire in the movie, Bieber is the real deal and brought the fantasy to life…with a few touches of his own thrown in.

The couple began their evening by attending a Demi Lovato concert at the nearby Nokia Theater. Once the show ended, Justin reportedly told Selena to follow him through the underground tunnel that connects the theater to the massive Staples Center. They arrived to find themselves alone in the 20,000 seat arena, with the lights dimmed and  a candle-lit table for two set on the court. The love birds were served a dinner of steak and pasta catered by the venue’s exclusive Lexus Club, and when they finished eating Titanic started playing on the Jumbotron.

You hear that? That’s the sound of a million girls swooning, and a million guys screaming in frustration. The best part is that Justin didn’t even have to pay to use the arena. That’s what happens when your concerts fill the place three times in a row. We’ve gotta hand it to the kid, he’s got game. Leo may be king of the world, but Biebs is king of the date nights. Well played.
