And listen, we know there are a lot of singletons out there who are not so pleased about how much we in the media focus on this holiday. But we can’t help it, OK? We cover divorces and breakdowns and deaths and fights all the time, and it’s really nice to have a day that’s all about the important things in life. (No, not the unveiling of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, though that’s nice too.) We just really want to escape from it all and look at Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez nuzzling each other. We would like to soak in the happiness that is Adam Lambert and Sauli Koskinen’s love, bask in Jay-Z and Beyonce’s adorable glory, shiver with delight at the perpetual hotness of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, and marvel at the lasting power of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith. We are hoping some of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s world-saving affection will rub off on us. And we’re even going to allow for some admiration of Tom Brady and Gisele Bunchen, football loyalties aside.

But here’s some good news for you black-hearted V-day haters: The last time we did a best couples gallery, back in December, one of those couples announced their divorce a few days later. Oh, no! What have we done?!?

Owl City’s Adam Young Writes Taylor Swift A Song For Valentine’s Day

Gentlemen, prepare to have your Valentine’s Day plans reduced to rubble by Owl City‘s Adam Young’s valentine to Taylor Swift. Apparently last year Swift hinted at a crush on the “Fireflies” singer, confessing that she wrote “Enchanted” “about this guy that I met in New York City, and I had talked to him on email or something before, but I had never met him. And meeting him, it was this overwhelming feeling of: I really hope that you’re not in love with somebody.” Well, Young got the hint, but only after he realized Swift had hidden the letters A-D-A-M in the song’s liner notes as well as incorporated the word “wonderstruck” from one of the emails they had exchanged. “Everything about you is beautiful. You’re an immensely charming girl with a wonderful heart and more grace and elegance than I know how to describe,” Adam replied to Taylor on his website. “You are a true princess from a dreamy fairy tale; a modern Cinderella. I’m terribly sorry it’s taken me such a long time to reply but I figured Valentine’s Day was the perfect time to write this note to you and simply say… I was enchanted to meet you, too.” Boom! That’s the sound of your bouquet of red roses and heart-shaped box of chocolates being blown out of the water.

We actually think this pairing is perfect; Adam and Taylor both wear their hearts on their sleeves in a darling cartoon-woodland-creature sort of way. As if all that sweetness wasn’t enough, Young changed the lyrics to Swift’s Enchanted, singing “I was never in love with someone else / I never had somebody waiting on me / ‘Cause you were all of my dreams come true / And I just wish you knew / Taylor I was so in love with you.” Might as well take your girls to Arby’s, fellas. There ain’t no competing with this guy.

Style Wars: Alba’s Laces Let Us Down

Rom-com fluff fest Valentine’s Day made its British debut today, with much less of a turnout than Hollywood’s star-packed premiere earlier this week. Jessica Alba and co-star Ashton Kutcher hopped the pond, along with Emma Roberts and Demi Moore.

Alba’s been in a red carpet rut lately, and her streak continued in foggy Londontown with some atrocious footwear. We hate the peep-toe, laced-up, bright blue booties. Their clunkiness paired with the opaque black tights makes her ensemble unbalanced and overpowers the otherwise cute, playful dress. We’re wishing she had gone with some understated round-toe pumps. Style Wars: The Sweethearts Of Valentine’s Day

While Valentine’s Day looks like little more than a well-timed fluffy date movie, its cast is nothing short of all-star. Leading ladies Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Garner, Jessica Biel, and Jessica Alba were amidst last night’s star-studded premiere in Hollywood. Though all four actresses have a hard time looking less-than-gorgeous, their red carpet garb was hit-and-miss. While Hathaway dazzled in a mini blue number, the other ladies left us bored and/or horrified. Poor J-Biel evoked candy cane dreams in her frilly disaster of a dress. Alba looked okay from the shoulders down, but her mop was in dire need of a blowout. Jen Garner’s body was bangin’ in a form-fitting strapless frock, but she could’ve chosen something less snooze-inducing. Whose Valentine look do you love?
