Even before the Mickey Mouse Club got their hands on him, Ryan Gosling was busting out some sweet moves and a voice bigger than his body to match them. Here we have him at a Mormon talent show at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Cornwall, Ontario back in 1991. The 10-year-old Gosling starts off with a smooth rendition of the soul classic ”When a Man Loves a Woman” as he works the stage with insane levels of pre-pubescent swag. He is then joined onstage by his older sister, Mandi, to dance to C&C Music Factory’s “Everybody Dance Now.” And we can’t forget those awful matching outfits that the duo seem to make completely adorable!
In an interview with Interview magazine in 2010, Gosling spoke about performing as a child. He said that when he was 8 and his sister was 12, “We would sing “’When a Man Loves a Woman’ to the bride. We’d do it right before the garter ceremony. While the bride was sitting on the chair, I would get down on my knees and sing the song, and then my sister would sing another song, and then together we would sing ‘Old Time Rock & Roll.’ Then sometimes if we were really killing it, I’d sing ‘Runaround Sue.’” What we’d give to hear a little serenade from Gosling now! And maybe without his shirt on…
As you can see from the video above, Tom Cruise’s co-stars Malin Akerman, Julianne Hough and Catherine Zeta-Jones really feel like the actor was a real rock star on the set of Rock of Ages — and they meant that in the best way, not the diva-concert rider, trash the hotel room kind of way. And from what we can tell from clips of him as Stacee Jaxx, the guy really poured himself into the part. But none of this should surprise us in the least: After all, the guy has always been a rock star, even when he was at his most clean-cut and Hollywood. Here, we’d like to count down the 10 moments when he most resembled the lead singer of his own guitar-thrashing, ear-melting, groupie-attracting, Billboard-topping band.
Of all the ’80s fashion trends making a comeback these days, we shouldn’t really be surprised about the jumpsuits and rompers showing up all over the place. After all, they are pretty comfortable (even though you have to strip down every time you go to the bathroom #girlproblems). But we get the feeling that isn’t why Mary J. Blige was ready to take one of her costumes home from the set of Rock of Ages.
“All the jumpers are hot,” Blige, who plays strip club owner Justice Charlier, told VH1 News. “I think was the one with the braids, the silver jumper, I would wear that. Right now.”
Unfortunately, we have to wait for the movie to see that particular suit, but in the meantime, here are a couple of others, along with a few iconic ones from their ’80s heyday.
Leave it to Mama Monster to still look fab and fierce even with a huge black eye! Lady Gagaposted a pic to her Twitter today showing off her shiner, the result of an onstage mishap that happened this Sunday during a New Zealand concert. “Emerging from hours of sleep,” she wrote. “Still remiss if I should go outside, with this clonker I may be of questionable styling.” If you ask us, it just looks like some kind of funky eye shadow. Work it, Gaga!
For those of you just tuning in, a dancer accidentally gave Gags a whack with a metal pole right in the middle of “Judas.” Oh the betrayal! But ever the pro, Lady Gaga didn’t miss a note and kept right on singing. In fact, she finished the remaining 16 songs! “I want to apologize,” she reportedly told the crowd after the incident. “I did hit my head and I think I may have a concussion. But don’t you worry, I will finish this show.” The poor pop princess was indeed left with a concussion, in addition to her bruised left eye and cheek.
Despite the setback, Gaga hasn’t slowed down much, continuing on to Australia in order to bring her Born This Way Ball to her adoring aussie fans, many of whom have been sending her well wishes and good vibes. “Thank you so much for all the thoughtful messages,” she tweeted on Monday. “I feel a bit woozy but a little better everyday. Very happy to be in beautiful Australia.” Watch the whole freaky moment in the clip above. If it doesn’t prove that Lady Gaga is the hardest working gal in show-biz, then we don’t know what will!
A lot of things have changed for Steve Carell since he uttered the famous phrase “I love lamp” as Brick Tamland in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. After all, the 2004 movie came out a month before The 40-Year-Old Virgin and eight months before The Office premiered on NBC, and many of us still thought of him as “Produce Pete” from the Daily Show. So when VH1 Celebrity caught up with Carell as he was doing press for Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (in theaters June 22), we wondered if he thought his higher profile would mean a bigger part for the lovable weatherman in the sequel, Anchorman: The Legend Continues, due to begin filming next February or March.
“I have no idea. I kind of hope not,” Carell told us. “I feel that Brick is best taken in small doses. And I see it as an ensemble, aside from Will [Ferrell]. I hope it’s kind of the same setup as the first one.”
And after all these years, Carell seems to think that ensemble will be just as great together as the first time around. Read more…
Mark Wahlberg turns 41 today, but the bad-boy rapper turned award-nominated actor and producer still has the pecks and abs from his younger days. We recently saw the evidence all over the Web, as he was filming his new movie Pain and Gain in Miami and showing off his killer physique all over town. Mark even took it back to his Calvin Klein ad days by parading around in his underwear on his balcony.
Partly in preparation to play Micky Ward in the 2010 boxing flick The Fighter, Wahlberg beefed up quite a bit in recent years. The Boston native also literally flexed his muscles as Holbrooke Grant in the 2010 comedy Date Night. But he’s not just a pretty face: He was a producer on The Fighter, and exec-produced HBO series Entourage, How to Make It in America and Boardwalk Empire. He’s the whole package, but to celebrate Mark’s 41st birthday, we’re going to celebrate his less cerebral pursuits with 20 pics of the shirtless actor.
And while you’re at it, check out the video clip above to see celebs like Julianne Hough and Brooke Hogan weighing in on their shirtless Mark Wahlberg moment. Got one we forgot? Let us know in the comments section!
Just as Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have dominated the MTV Movie Awards Best Kiss category for the past four years — including last night, when KStew had to settle for a little onstage self love — their first onscreen lip lock was victorious in our own tournament last week. By an overwhelming majority of 84 to 16 percent, the Twilight kiss crushed The Notebook in our Ultimate Best Kiss Smoochdown. Judging by that vote, you guys your kisses wrought with tension and danger, but no tongue.
VH1 News hit up the Movie Awards carpet last night to find out what the stars thought was their own best kiss, and their tastes tend to differ from the typical Twi-hard.
“A five-minute Frencher is usually the go-to, and if that’s too long of a scene and people get all weird about it, then a nice, light tongue nibble on the lip kind of thing with groaning,” said Jeff Dye, the host of MTV’s hidden-camera show Money From Strangers.
“When a guy takes me out on a date and it’s a surprising kiss,” said Kirsten Prout of ABC Family’s The Lying Game. “Not like a sneak attack, pins you against the wall kind of kiss. When they dip you down low and it’s romantic and it’s like an old Hollywood movie, I’m a sucker.”
“Yeah, and I like up-against-the-wall hair pulling,” chimed in Lauren McKnight, Prout’s co-star in the My Super Psycho Sweet 16 movies.
OK, it’s time to confiscate the Kardashian’s Macbooks. The first family of attention seekers have just released a music video made out of footage from their trip to the Dominican Republic. Sure, it does feature elder K-Sisters Kim and Khloe dancing in swimsuits, but tragically it also contains Kris Jenner smacking husband Bruce’s booty (and vice versa). That disturbing image has seared itself into our brain like a cattle brand, and we’re amazed YouTube didn’t make us confirm our age to view it.
The clip is set to Notorious B.I.G.’s “Hypnotize” and was posted online by junior Kardashian sisters Kendall and Kylie (16 and 14 respectively), whose rap-dancer bikini gyrations that we viewed for journalistic purposes now make us feel like we should be on some kind of watch list. “Here’s our latest family music video to Hypnotize by Notorious B.I.G,” they wrote. “We might get some hate but who cares, we had fun doing it! Hope you guys don’t take this too seriously!” And there you have it folks: rap videos are fun for the whole family! From mom and dad, all the way down to underage daughters. Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re going to give our eyes a shower.
Let’s for a second forget that Paris Hilton is contorting her body into shapes that shouldn’t even exist. Trust us, this was the least pretzel-like image we could find of her with her sister, Nicky Hilton. Let’s also, for a second, forget that Nikki Reed‘s smile is more of a grimace than a grin. Because all three of them have absolutely nailed a trend we love at the MTV Movie Awards, precious metal. Seriously, anything metallic or sparkly brings out the magpie in us. We all know that embellishment and sequins don’t always go right, so when the wearer manages to get every detail spot on, it’s a cause for celebration.
We’ll start with Paris in a gunmetal Marco Squared sheath with an embellished neckline and hem. We love the fact that the silhouette is cut like a simple, sleeveless sheath. No frills, no hipbones jutting out — she let the fabric and the lines do all the talking. Her sister, Nicky, also wore a Marco Squared design, putting on a silver-grey jacquard strapless dress. It had amazing attention to detail, especially on the drapes of the skirt. Big win for the Hilton sisters! They look sexy, but nowhere close to trashy. We’d go as far to say that they look pretty darn fine. Nikki also joins their ranks in a stunning Randi Rahm cap sleeved, gold micro-beaded cocktail frock. Again, the silhouette is one of a shift, but who needs anything fancy with that fabric? We’re glad she kept it simple, but slightly cheeky — note the keyhole neckline. Dull gold peep-toe Giuseppe Zanotti pumps and a Pierre Hardy animal print clutch completed the look. Take a bow, ladies. Which look is your favorite?
We feel really bad for the ladies on the worst-dressed list at the MTV Movie Awards. A couple of tweaks to their outfits and they could have been on the best-dressed list, easily. None of the looks in this selection are heinous, except a few. Brooke Hogan would be one of the few. We can’t even begin to deal with her bedazzled, stomach-baring WTF of an ensemble. Another, would be Ciara, whose red Balmain mini-dress crosses the line from sexy short to wardrobe malfunction short. We get that the deep neckline and little skirt slit are supposed to be artful, but they looked ripped. Julianne Hough should be given the memo that a peplum is not necessary for everything. Especially not ’80s looking lace Sally LaPointe cut-out dress. They make the dancer look boxy when we know she isn’t at all. Bad silhouette.
Now on to the ones we truly feel sad about. We love Christina Ricci, but we feel she’s got so tiny that nothing fits her right anymore. Her Christian Siriano strapless number would have looked awesome if she could fill it out a little. As a result, the fabric swamps her and it, somehow, looks synthetic. Lucy Hale fell prey to that same problem. Her color-blocked Catherine Malandrino dress just didn’t sit right on her, which is shame, because Lucy is so lovely! We also beat our heads about Elizabeth Banks, whose sartorial flag normally flies high. We just coudn’t get on board with her black Elie Saab jumpsuit. The detail down the arms and bodice looked … spidery. Look, weird fashion stuff can also be amazing when people own it. She’s trying desperately to own this — we love the makeup and hair — but the outfit has run away with her. Better luck next time. That applies to all these ladies. Have a look at the gallery to see who else is on the list.
