In real life, Lena Dunham is way more responsible than most people — she’s 26 and runs her own show and makes her own movies! — but something about the way she talks about her new dog Lamby, whom she adopted on Wednesday, reminds us a whole lot of her Girls character, Hannah Horvath.
“I adopted him at Brooklyn Animal Rescue Coalition,” she told VH1 News at the season two premiere of Girls. “I wanted a dog for so long.”
“In a million years, when kids go to school, they gonna know: Once there was a Hushpuppy, and she lived with her daddy in the Bathtub,” Quvenzhane Wallis says at the beginning of Beasts at the Southern Wild. And now, we hope kids a million years from now will also know that once there was a Quvenzhane Wallis, and at 9 years old, she was the youngest person to receive a Best Actress Oscar nomination. If you’ve seen her breathtaking performance as the fierce young girl living in the untamed swamps of Louisiana, you probably aren’t surprised by her nomination. That’s not the only reason to love her, though. Here are seven more:
1. The girl knows how to accessorize. Especially with her signature animal purses:

2. She’s not gonna compromise on that name for your sake. It’s pronounced Kwe-VAWN-zhan-ay, by the way. Her mother, Qulyndreia, told Deadline that the name is a combination of her own name, Quvenzhane’s father’s name, Venjie, and the Swahili word for fairy. Read more…
Forget the Golden Globes; put aside your hopes and wishes for tonight’s People’s Choice Awards; sleep in and skip tomorrow’s Oscar nominations announcement, because we here at VH1 Celebrity have a much more important title to hand out this awards season: Best Facial Hair Performance in a Motion Picture. You know we’re not alone in pointing out how important beards, mutton chops, mustaches and scruff have been to 2012’s most critically acclaimed films: Can you even imagine Lincoln, Django Unchained, Argo, Les Miserables, Bernie or (god forbid) The Hobbit with clean-shaven stars?

VH1 News polled the heavy hitters at the National Board of Review Awards on Tuesday night to see who the stars would nominate and the answers were predictably enthusiastic.
“I’m not worried about awards season, but I have been going for best beard,” Ben Affleck told us. “[Leonardo DiCaprio’s] got the best, probably, and Bradley [Cooper’s] got, like, the scruff, which doesn’t look like a beard-beard but you can’t discredit because it’s carefully calibrated.” Read more…
For the past few Decembers we’ve looked forward to doing a round-up of singer/fashion lunatic Lady Gaga’sweirdest and wildest looks from that year. But as we started looking for 2012, we realized a scary fact: Mother Monster has kind of really toned it down lately. Eek! Sure there was some mighty sideboobs every now and then, But that was pretty much the best (or worst) of it. What were we to do!? Who is going to fill the void left by this insane style void? Which celebrity is the rightful heir to Lady Gaga’s crazy fashion throne!? We’ve looked high and low for the rightful successor and came up with a pretty killer list of contenters, from singers like Nicki Minaj and Rihanna to the Vampire Diaries‘ Kat Graham. Head down to the gallery below and see which celeb toppled Gags as the nuttiest fashionista (or fashionisto) of 2012. Enjoy!
VH1 Divas host Adam Lambert apparently got some diva lessons from a pretty sweet teacher: Real Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes! VH1’s own reality queen, Jackie Christie of Basketball Wives LA, caught up with her during the red carpet excitement just before showtime, where NeNe admitted that Adam was the main attraction for her that night. “I am teaching him how to be a diva, so we’ll see that in the opening of the show. I’m like his mom tonight,” she gushed. “So I’ll be cheering for him and hoping that he does a fantastic job.”
But of course, that begs the question, what exactly is a diva? NeNe helpfully offered up her own expert definition. “Fierce and fabulous and a legend in their own field.” But she was quick to clarify that there’s more than one kind. “There are two different types of divas,” she explained. There’s a diva that is a bitch on wheels. And then there’s a diva that is fun and fabulous and outspoken. I feel like I’m the fun fabulous diva.” Jackie was quick to agree! “I think it’s great to be a legend but it’s also cool to be nice.”
In addition to helping Glambert up his sass cred, Nene is apparently getting busy in her private life too. Rumors are swirling that the Real Housewife is getting back with her ex-husbandGregg Leakes. Even after divorcing, NeNe has claimed that the pair are on good terms, and now there are reports they they’re to remarry during the holidays. That’s some serious Liz and Dick business right there! NeNe is staying mum on the subject, but played coy when a fan on Twitter asked if they could expect some Christmas nuptials. “Keep ur ears & eyes open,” she responded back. We’ll see!
[Warning: Everything in this video and post is SPOILER-Y!]
As VH1’s resident Senior Twilight Reporter/Critic, I filmed a review of the Breaking Dawn: Part 2 just an hour after seeing it back in October. That video, in which I appear giddy, flustered and without makeup, is above for your viewing enjoyment. It is seven minutes – about six minutes and thirty seconds too long, so apologies in advance for the word vomit. But I has feels!
Watch the video above and you’ll see something fairly extraordinary: A person learning they have a long lost sibling, and then treating it like it’s NBD and getting right back on the promotional pitch! Yesterday it was revealed that Lindsay Lohan’s dad Michael fathered a lovechild back in the 90s, but we guess no one got around to telling her. She apparently first heard the news this morning during a television interview.
The controversial actress (polite euphemism for train-wreck) made an appearance on Good Morning America with Amy Robach today to discuss the airing of her upcoming TV-movie, Liz and Dick. But as so often happens, conversation turned towards her troubled history and family life, including the news of her newly discovered half-sister. Her reaction? “I didn’t even hear that, so thanks for the news!” Annnnnd then it was right back in the discussion of Elizabeth Taylor. Amazing! Either she’s really single minded, or maybe that was just her way of deflecting salacious family gossip and getting back to the task at hand: Resurrecting her career.
The Lifetime produced flick is certainly the most talked about made-for-TV-movie in recently memory, and people are eagerly waiting to see if it will be Lohan’s return to form. She admits channeling her own experiences while playing the role of screen legend, Elizabeth Taylor, who was also ruthlessly scrutinized by the media. “I think that everyone goes through things in life, and I like to learn from my mistakes, obviously,” she says. “But I wouldn’t be who I am today if I hadn’t gone through certain things, everything happens for a reason, good or bad. So you can just take what you’ve learned from it and move forward.” We’ll tune in on the 25th to see if Lilo moves forward, or just gets into another fender bender.
We’re blaming Stephenie Meyer for the fact that we’re obsessed with Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart as parents. They’re so young and have plenty of time to get around to that in real life … but they’re just so darn good at it in Breaking Dawn – Part 2 that Kate Spencer couldn’t help asking them both about their thoughts on little ones. We already shared Kristen’s quotes on motherhood last week, but how about Rob’s? Kate made this a bit more comfortable for him to answer, asking if he thinks about showing the Twilight Saga to his kids and grandkids.
“That would be so weird,” he said. “I can’t even imagine that about anything that I’ve done.” Read more…
In our sit-down with Breaking Dawn director Bill Condon, he told us that Kristen Stewart was “nervous to show the maternal side because it’s something that hasn’t happened for her yet. But it got turned on immediately when Mackenzie Foy showed up.”
He compared the bond the actresses shared to that of Kristen and her Panic Room co-star, Jodie Foster, and said, “The idea that she was seeing this daughter, in a way, go through this experience of making a movie for the first time, made her incredibly connected to Mackenzie.”
Awww! Bill also called Kristen, “an incredible warrior goddess” in the film, and said her “real achievement” was shifting between vampire and human Bella, as the two films were shot simultaneously. Kristen returned the praise, telling us that Bill totally gets the Twilight fandom, and that he, “had his finger on what keeps this thing going. He didn’t shy away from the romantic elements of it, without making them…sentimental boring BS.”
Bill Condon says that the vampire sex in Breaking Dawn Part 2 was “easier” to figure out than the vampire-human sex in Breaking Dawn Part 1 (yes, I’m bring you all the hard-hitting news in this post). “All we know about vampire sex is that it’s really, really good in a way we can’t even imagine. So it was more abstract.”
The director – who is an absolute delight to chat with – credits Rob Pattinson for coming up with the vampire sex scene’s most pivotal lovemaking move. “Rob had the absolute best idea for it,” he says. “He was like, ‘you know what her real erogenous zone is that I really want to start with? It’s right here on her neck, because that’s the classic place where a vampire bites somebody, so it’s the one place he’s never been able to kiss her before, because he can’t trust himself. So now that he’s a vampire he can finally attack that neck.'”
Bill adds, “It was a great way to get started.”
Um, yeah it was. Now, as Bill was telling me this, my pervy fangirl brain wasbuzzing between how hot it is that Rob was basically directing where on his girlfriend he wanted to kiss first in the sex scene and how sad I was that he chose Kristen Stewart‘s neck over her arm pit. But you know, beggars can’t be chosers, right?
We’ve seen the vampire sex and are dying to talk with you all about it. Let’s discuss on November 16th, shall we?
