We’re a little bit confused about the purpose of Emma Stone’s cover photo in W. Not that this is the first time the fashion magazine has baffled us by featuring a cover model in no clothing. I mean, that’s a very stylish bra, and I’m sure if I saw the whole leather jacket she has wrapped around her arms, I’d like that too. But mostly, the vibe we’re getting here is “Emma Stone can be a corrupted, sexy little girl, in addition to all the roles you already like her for.” The messy hair and minimal makeup add to that post-coital look. Inside the mag, she’s wearing more clothing that follows in this punk princess theme. And none of this fits either A) the quirky comedian she normally portrays in real life, or B) the mob moll she’s playing in Gangster Squad.
Not that she doesn’t look good, of course. Also, she makes up for this confusion with this quote about her appearance as a presenter at last year’s Oscars. “It was for best visual effects, so Ben [Stiller] and I had all these funny ideas. Planet of the Apes was nominated, so we thought we would bring a chimp onstage and I’d say, “Oh, it looks so real.” And Ben would be like, “It’s a real chimp.” And I’d be insisting, “Oh, my God — the work they do now is so staggering.” And he’d repeat, “It’s a real chimp.” But apparently, you can’t make the Oscar presentation about a particular movie or else the audience thinks you’re swaying the vote toward that movie.”
Any girl who’s disappointed she didn’t get to bring a chimp onstage at the Oscars can do no wrong in our book. Academy, please make her present again this year.

Jessica Chastain has not one, but four covers for W Magazine‘s “Art Meets Fashion” January, 2013, where the actress, “plays human canvas to four leading artists of the day.” She’s basically, being interpreted by the artists, and George Condo is one of them and has said, “I wanted Jessica to become part of the painting and then appear to come off it, as if she were breaking free and leaving behind an empty space. “I liked that the paintings were 3-D.” Of participating in his art, Chastain’s response has been, “I love the feeling of giving myself over to another strong point of view. It’s the best kind of trust—the belief that an artist will take care of me while creating something unique.” Chantal Joffe is another, although Jessica had to Skype with her, as the artist is afraid of flying, so couldn’t commute from London! “I never saw Chantal in person, but her softness and phobic nature affected me,” Chastain says. “I could hear the mix of shyness and strength in her voice, and I tried to channel that feeling. I found Chantal very feminine, so I moved that way. I fixed my hair by the window, I slouched while seeming intent.” Condo’s cover is the one you see above, while the one below is Joffe’s. Condo himself designed the dress Jessica’s wearing on the cover, and she’s wearing Calvin Klein for the Joffe version.
When we first saw Scarlett Johansson‘s “Goth Bonnie Raitt” makeover in W Magazine, it was like we were struck with a sweet, sexy guitar riff. Everyone knows that only the best women have grey streaks in their hair! Raitt, Rogue from the X-Men, uh, Cruella de Vil: all women we want to look like, all women we want to be. ScarJo joined Mia Wasikowska, Rooney Mara and Keira Knightley in getting a sick makeover for the mag, but only one of them looks like a hotter Dr. Blight from Captain Planet. Needless to say, we are into it. If only anyone had actually looked like that in the nineties!
As it turns out, ScarJo is mixing it up in more areas than her scalp. According to People Magazine, the Hitchcock actress has just broken up with her boyfriend of a little under year Nate Naylor. “She broke up with him last week,” a source claims. “He’s pretty upset but the writing was on the wall. A lot of people were surprised it lasted this long.” Somewhere Ryan Reynolds holds his new issues of People and W Magazine, his lower lip trembling with what might have been.
Despite having a face like a valentine, a gigantic action franchise and an Oscar nom under her belt, Jennifer Lawrence is consistently the most self-deprecating celebrity we know. And we love it. We do feel conflicted about our love though. On one hand, we don’t want JLaw to think she is anything less than the flawless human being she is. On the other hand…remember when she went on Letterman to promote Hunger Games back in March and declared, “I hate myself. Don’t go see the movie because I’m a troll. I think the movie is great but their biggest mistake was me”? We’re sorry, but that proved to us she’s a woman after our own hearts. Now The Silver Linings Playbook star is bringing more of the same in her new W Magazine interview. Wow, how can this woman not know she’s as close to perfection as homo sapiens get?
Thank you, W Magazine, for reminding us how awesome the ’80’s were. That decade always gets such a bad rap for its big hair, fingerless gloves and shoulderpads, but people forget that it gave us some pretty amazing fashion moments too. Penelope Cruz on the cover of the September issue of the magazine is a nod to everything that was right about that decade. We’re loving the chunky jewelry, the natural eyebrows and the massive, sideswept hair. We’re also grateful that they didn’t go too ’80’s with the makeup. The matte look is what pulls this whole cover together. The accompanying black-and-white shoot comprises some of the most stunning images we’ve seen of her yet and are are in a completely different stylistic direction than her cover. Look at the photograph on the right? Minimal, arty but completely captivating, right? Each of the pictures is like that, and Cruz really needs to send the photographer a bottle of wine or something, because he just did her a solid.
The interview itself deals with her cinematic career, specifically about with her very fruitful working relationships with directors Pedro Almodovar and Woody Allen. We would have preferred more personal insights, like some stories regarding her story with husband Javier Bardem, but she’s famously quiet about that side of her life. As a result the piece didn’t draw us in like we were hoping it would. So we’re just going to have look at the pictures again. Not that we have a problem with that.

We’re not talking about the August W Magazine cover of Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron, guys. That released a few days ago, and you can see it here. It was steamy alright, but it did nothing to prepare us for the heat that lay on the pages inside the magazine. That gorgeous silver necklace Charlize is wearing on the cover, so visible thanks to the deep, plunging neckline of her Dior Archive dress, is by Tiffany & Co, FYI. If someone is feeling generous and would like to send it over a present, feel free. The newly released photo shoot of the two Prometheus stars is damp, sexy, slightly S&M and has us swooning. Not in a Mills & Boon kind of way, but in a Fifty Shades of Greykind of way, if you know what we mean. The cover story is pretty great two, with Fassbender and Theron both talking about life, movies and their friendship. A hilarious moment comes about when they’re asked, “What’s harder to do? A death scene or a sex scene?” Charlize replies, “It depends on who you’re doing the sex scene with. I don’t have issues being naked. That sounds very slutty.” But enough talk about reading and let’s talk photos again. Specifically the one that’s coming up after the jump. Warning: it’s Charlize in thigh-high stocking and Michael shirtless, again. Read more…
Your work day is over: time to kick back, relax and enjoy a piping hot bowls of hunks. Hunks like Tom Cruise, Mark Wahlberg and Christopher Meloni, to be exact. Now, clearly all these hunks deserve their own post, but to achieve critical hunk mass we fused them together into one super hunk post. It’s sort of like the end of David Cronenberg‘s The Fly, but not gross and with more hunks! Man, now we wish Jeff Goldblum was in this hunk round-up. Maybe next time!
Tom Cruise posed for this month’s W Magazine while channeling his Rock of Ages character, hair metal singer Stacee Jaxx. Now, we know some of those abs have to be Photoshopped (please compare to Tom’s other shirtless Staceee Jaxx photo immediately. Immediately.) and of course those tattoos aren’t real and, yes, maybe something weird is going on in his brow area, but still…the man is turning 50 this year and looks like he was carved out of well-moisturized granite. Even if it might make you uncomfortable to admit it, Tom Cruise is still a bona fide hunk. Accept him. Embrace him as you would any other hunk.
Remember in the early ’90s when Mark Wahlberg used to model underwear for a living? Now he’s hanging out in Miami filming Michael Bay‘s Pain and Gain and, well, basically modeling underwear for a living. If we knew what brand those were, we’d buy some and keep them on us at all times in case we met a worthy hunk. We would tell you to say hello to your mother for him, but she’s already seen these photos and she knows. She knows he says hello.
We always appreciated that Jessica Biel is, for lack of a better term, the Sporty Spice of Hollywood’s starlets. In real life Justin Timberlake‘s lady love might sleep on a bed made of rose pedals with puppies the size of cotton balls, but in our minds she’s repelling down a sheer rock wall into her kitchen for breakfast every morning. Biel’s new W Magazine interview (and insanely toned cover photo) aren’t doing much to convince us otherwise. “Girls were nervous about going into caves; they were scaredy-cats—and I wasn’t into that at all. I loved the idea of being with a crew and having an adventure. I was really interested in pits full of snakes,” Biel says of loving The Goonies as a child, adding, “I’ve always been physical. I have no concept of what life is like without physical activity.” Physical activity in a cutaway white one-piece definitely still counts! Some might argue it counts double!
All of which makes it sound like Jessica will be at her cinematic peak in this summer’s Total Recall reboot, as it features her lady-grappling with Underworld star Kate Beckinsale. “Kate and I usually fight men in movies, and when you knock into a man, he doesn’t care,” Biel explains. “But every two seconds, Kate and I were saying, ‘I’m so sorry—are you okay?’ We were both so nervous about fighting another woman. Which is strange, because I have no problem fighting with a guy. In truth, I like doing anything that requires breaking a sweat.” Like looking at pictures of yourself in hanging out poolside in a bra, for example? Okaaaaay? Seriously though, girl, you make us want to run wind sprints all the way to the gym.

The February cover of W magazine is like a double bonanza. Oozing sexiness on a special dual cover are Brad Pitt and Charlize Theron. Don’t they look drop dead amazing? The interviews with both stars provide interesting tidbits of information. For instance, Charlize reveals her usage of “cutlets.” You know … bra fillers! She says, “I wear those! If you don’t have boobs, you wear those cutlets. I heard a story of a girl who was on a date, started making out, and thought, Oh, he’s going to touch the cutlets! So she went to the bathroom to take them off, but her purse was too small to put them in there. I always thought that was a funny image, a woman not knowing what to do with these things that you stick onto your boobs. It’s just the most bizarre, unsexy thing there is—so I added that to Mavis.” And indeed, Mavis, her character in Young Adult, has more than one scene featuring said undergarments.
Brad, on the other hand, talks about movies and whether or not he’s OK with watching himself die on screen. He doesn’t have a problem, it seems, as he revealed, “God, no. I’m just checking the boxes. Hit that. Missed that. Hit that moment. Missed that one. God, I’d like to do that one again.” He also talks about the one film that made him cry. Interested to know more? You’ll have to read the

Carey Mulligan! When did you decide to become so smoking hot? Posing for the upcoming issue of W Magazine, the Shame actress dressed up her goodies in white lingerie for an unusually slinky cover photo. We always knew the Great Gatsby star was adorable in a sweet apple-pie-school-teacher way (you know, one of those school teachers made out of pies?). We had no idea she was so…so…so seductive! Now that we think about it, Carey is almost always mouse-ified for her roles; her wardrobe in Drive looked like it came straight out of our grandma’s closet. The less cool grandma. We have to assume this new come-hither look is the result of working with Michael Fassbender. One day on the set and our shirts would be exploding off too.
