Aww, we miss Paula so much. For all of Steven Tyler’s American Idol inappropriateness, neither he nor J.Lo have ever seemed like they might have flown here from some alternate dimension filled with double rainbows and free Lunesta prescriptions. Not so Paula Abdul, who says she sleeps standing up with her eyes open. “I sleep standing up sometimes,” Paula said in an interview. “I’ve been sleeping against a wall and I never fully close my eyes so it freaks people out. My eyes are always kind of open,” which just fits so perfectly with everything else we know about her.
Explained the Live To Dance judge to Access Hollywood, “I fell asleep at an awards show when I got an award and my manager at the time let me just be asleep so that I could be on the jumbotron. But I only require a few hours of sleep. Lately it’s been two or three.” The rest of the night she practices elaborate tap-dance choreography with DJ Scat Cat! Paula did admit that Simon Cowell tried to make a move on her while they manned the AI panel, a fact that might make it awkward if Paula gets hired on Cowell’s X-Factor. “[Simon] did try to swap spit once,” Paula claimed. “He’s done it a few times.” If that’s not enough to rob you of the ability to sleep for more than 45 minutes at a time, well, then we don’t know what is!

In news that will no doubt make Simon Cowell’s Christmas, a Christian group is comparing him to Jesus Christ. Yes, that Jesus Christ. Maybe they thought X-Factor was short for Christ-Factor. Re, the official magazine of the Assemblies of God church, claims that Cowell’s no-nonsense tough-love style is very similar to the way Christ would have behaved. We can only imagine how this makes Paula Abdul feel.
“Jesus, the one we think of as being meek and mild, gentle and loving and full of compassion, had the ability to talk tough,” explains the faith based periodical. “Some of his words were upsetting and difficult to swallow – just like Cowell’s – but he spoke truth and doesn’t the truth hurt sometimes? Simon Cowell takes, learns from them and grows in the process, and there are numerous stories in the Bible of people who do the same.” Wow, well thank goodness he’s using his powers for good! Think of all the gifts Simon has given us: Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, and Susan Boyle, just to name a few. But then again, he did spring William Hung on an unsuspecting world. The Simon works in cruel and mysterious ways.
So now that Simon Cowell is done with “American Idol” (sob!), he’s already planning his next big move which, in a way, has him returning to his roots. In 2004, Cowell, along with Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh, was a judge on the first series of the British talent show “The X-Factor”. The show was created through his own company, Syco, and was a massive success. He’s now bringing the show to the U.S, and the first season is scheduled to air later on in 2011 on FOX. And he’s pulling out all the stops putting together a judges panel. He’s going to be on it as well… a li’l healthy competition with his old American Idol gig!
Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey are rumored to be in the running for the judges panel The X has marked a spot for Paula Abdul too! But in order to make it happen with Cowell a second time around, she’s demanding some serious cash, claims a source, “Paula really wants to reunite with Simon on his new show next year. But she thinks he needs to either put up – or shut up!” And he need to put up a $ 3 million advance, or no cigar. The source went on to say that “the two have discussed reteaming, but Paula feels Simon needs to commit financially.”

Every time Simon Cowell‘s American Idol contract comes up, we still marvel at the figures. Today, we’re marveling at the amount of money he actually turned down in order to depart the famous show. Reports that surfaced today have hinted that Cowell was offered an additional $100 million to stay with the franchise, but he opted out in order to work on his X-Factor series instead.
In other X-Factor news, there’s been a lot of chatter about what other music powerhouses Cowell will convince to join him on the show. Rumor has it Cowell has been considering Cheryl Cole, his UK co-judge, to join him for the U.S. version of the show. He’s also been considering Tommy Mottola – the head of Sony music and former Mr. Mariah Carey – to be a judge as well. And then of course there’s the rumor that he plans to bring Paula Abdul on board ever since Cowell was recently quoted as saying “It was always my intention in one way or another to carry on working with her.” The more we hear about this series’ progress, the more excited we’re getting. We wonder if Idol and X-Factor can co-exist peacefully, or if this will be the beginning of the end of Ryan Seacrest and Co. [Photo: Getty Images]
We totally called it yesterday when we theorized that maybe Simon Cowell would find a way to reunite with Paula Abdul when he departs American Idol next year. Now Cowell has admitted that he does indeed want to work with Abdul again, saying “I’ve gone on record, I adore Paula. Whatever happens, I will be working with her in some capacity, because I miss her.” Now, we don’t know if this means she’ll definitely be hired for The X-Factor, but it sure sounds like it!
Funny, season 9 of Idol hasn’t even started yet (tonight, baby!) and already it feels like it’s unravelling – we sure hope all these departures don’t result in lost momentum and maximum suckage. We already went through that with this most recent season of Project Runway and we can’t handle another reality crap-fest.[Photo: Getty Images]
What’s going on here? Oh, IDK, just some British girls at the X Factor after party touchin’ tongues. Happy Wednesday! [Photo: Splash News Online]
