Okay, so we’re not really that angry. Just jelly that Gwyneth’s Coldplay frontman husband thought to make such a gigantic romantic gesture at their Miami concert last week. Like, Chris and Gwyneth might as well be on top of the Empire State building at this point. Or he could have come to her doorstep in the pouring rain and carried her upstairs. Well, we guess it would be their doorstep, which makes it slightly less sexy since he would have just opened the garage door and walked up the steps…look, our point is that everyone should be stopping every concert to kiss their spouses. Challenge made, every other married musician out there!
Like her fun song “How We Do (Party),” Rita Ora’s style is equally as vibrant. The 21-year-old Jay-Z protege is opening for Coldplay this summer and is quickly rising to stardom as Roc Nation’s newest pop diva. When the British Armenian beauty stopped by the VH1 offices for Big Morning Live Buzz she showed up in true Rita Ora fashion–in prints and colors. “I have to be on here in a pretty printed outfit,” she told Big Morning Buzz Live host. And her nails, that only cost her 60 pounds in London, were all kinds of sparkly. Whether on stage or working the red carpet, Rita Ora loves a bold print. Don’t be surprised if she pairs a printed dress with the hottest sneakers out. “It’s funny because everyone that knows me knows it takes so long to get me out of kicks,” she said about her love for sneakers. But for our shoot she brought her best nude A game pumps. Scroll down for the details.
Rita Ora’s dress and jacket are from FW12 Manish Arora. Her rings are Fenton Fallon. The watch has no label and the bracelets are her own. The shoes are Mugler.
We have a theory: Adele and the Brit Awards producers must have known that no one would treat “Adele wins” as a big headline-worthy deal this week, after she swept the Grammys last week. So they purposely cut her off during her acceptance speech, and she flipped them the bird. Yep. That worked! The triumphant songstress’ middle finger livened up her otherwise risk-free appearance, but other stars at last night’s show let their gowns (or lack thereof) do the talking. For her performance, Rihanna switched out her breathtaking, beaded gold gown for a sweatshirt and some boxer brief. Jessie J flashed us her underpants through a gauzy, flamenco-style red gown. And Florence Welch looked a bit like wild animals tried to rip her dress off her — but the look kind of worked on the energetic singer. It was a night when risks paid off, after all.
Check out the looks that wowed us, and a few that we’d like to splash with some of Coldplay’s Day-Glo paint, just to liven things up a bit.
It would be hard to overstate how much Apple co-founder Steve Jobs transformed our lives, from getting a mouse into our hands to introducing the touch screen, from how we listen to music to how we talk face-to-face on our mobile phones. In the end, Jobs definitely delivered on his “Think Different” advertising slogan. So it’s not surprising that celebs from every walk of life took to Twitter and Facebook like the rest of us to share their condolences upon hearing that he lost his battle to cancer at the age of 56. R.I.P. Steve.
“Rest in peace, Steve Jobs. From all of us at #Obama2012, thank you for the work you make possible every day-including ours.”
An innovator. Contributed so much to this generation & beyond. RIP Steve Jobs.
“The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come. For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it’s been an insanely great honor. I will miss Steve immensely.”
La La Vasquez
RIP Steve Jobs…praying for your family..thank YOU for all YOU’VE done to change our world and our way of thinking..
The official Hope for Haiti Now telethon lineup has just been announced, and this show is going to be even bigger than we had imagined. Rarely, if ever, have so many of the world’s biggest musicians mobilized so quickly with Hollywood elite (plus President Clinton and Oprah) to lend a helping hand in a time of tragedy. If only George Clooney, the mastermind behind the telethon, had been responsible for the relief efforts after Hurricane Katrina!
Sheryl Crow, Keith Urban and Kid Rock (Group performance)
Performing in New York:
Mary J Blige
Performing in London:
Jay-Z, Bono and The Edge (collaboration)
Presenters and speakers in Los Angeles (except where noted differently) include:
Anderson Cooper (from Haiti)
Jon Stewart (from New York)
President Clinton (from New York)
Robert Pattinson (from London)
Samuel L. Jackson
Will Smith with Muhammad Ali
Turn on your television at 8PM EST to witness history in the making. Hope for Haiti Now will be on just about every channel, including VH1 and MTV. Donations will go to Oxfam America, Partners in Health, Red Cross, UNICEF and Wyclef’s Yele Haiti Foundation. Facebook and MySpace have signed on as official social-media partners to help drive donations.
Details are trickling in as we type … But we’re hearing about a fundraiser for Haiti that is being masterminded by George Clooney. Allegedly MTV has agreed to air a bi-coastal happening on all of its channels (MTV, BET, CMT and our beloved VH1) in an attempt to provide much-needed support for the devasted victims of the earthquake.
According to Showbiz411, which broke the story today, Clooney was busy recruiting celebs at a party for Up in the Air last night — and Sting, after being approached, was overheard saying “Where do I go?” The timing for recruiting talent could not be better as nearly every A-list actor will be attending the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards on Friday and then the Golden Globes on Sunday. Expect to hear a lot about Haiti in upcoming acceptance speeches!
It’s hard to imagine this event going down without music. We can’t confirm anything at this time, but a straight talking-head telethon just isn’t how VH1 or MTV rolls. Plus, can you imagine Sting without his guitar? Exactly.
“It’s too late for advice now,” SimonCowell ominously responded when RyanSeacrest asked if any of the judges had a nugget of wisdom for this round of contestants. This week’s performances included a couple of seasoned performers, two single mothers, two high school students, a Norman Gentle, and a guy who has Kate from Jon and Kate Plus 8’s hair, only his is black. (But seriously Adam Lambert, the good news is that dogs across the neighborhood finally got a version of “Satisfaction” that they could hear properly, so thank you, feel free to retire now.)
5. Norman Gentle Rides Again
Much as we want Norman Gentle to stick around, we don’t think he’ll be here forever. As Ryan said after Norman groped the American Idol signage, “That’s the first time a contestant has gone to second base with our logo.” We loved his performance because he basically used the song “And I Am Telling You” to tell us he was not going. We love that as soon as he sang the words “I’m not going,” he knocked on plastic too. Plastic is just as good as wood in Norman’s world. He’s quirky and weird and yes, we agree with Paula that this isn’t the right stage for him, but we’d love to get a few more performances out of the guy to see how far he can get. Also, he called Simon “Sassy-pants.”
We had lots of fun live blogging the Brit Awards for you last night from London, which saw Duffy and Kings of Leon among the music stars who triumphed on the night. But we wouldn’t be doing our job without rounding up some of the behind-the-scenes gossip.
Lady Gaga – who appeared with the Pet Shop Boys for the briefest cameo ever – had the largest entourage backstage. “A total of 16 minders, assistants and managers were crammed into her dressing room – and used a rota to hang out with her,” according to reports. Plus, she was overheard saying, “Who are these people?” about Girls Aloud. Well, until about five seconds ago we hadn’t heard of YOU, love.
(Gaga also achieved her particular shade of orange by having three spray tans on the day…)
England’s “Grammys” is a huge deal in UK music — and our UK contributor, Becky Howard, is teaming up with PopSugarUK to live blog the show, which features performances by Kings of Leon, Take That, Coldplay, U2, Duffy, Girls Aloud, Adele, Leona Lewis, The Ting Tings and others. Plus, Lady Gaga will be closing the show with a duet with the Pet Shop Boys. Participate in our live blog now and check out PopSugarUK’s Brit Awards coverage.
