When people say that they “like a nice smile” in a prospective mate, they’re not really being entirely truthful. In actuality, a great smile means very little to most people if they’re not paired alongside an attractive set of teeth. This, we feel, is the great triumph of the new(ish) Tumblr site Actresses Without Teeth, which we think goes a long ways towards exploding the “nice smile” myth.

The soulstress got her start singing in a small church choir in the South Side of Chicago and now she’s an Oscar winning actress, Grammy winning singer, spokesperson for Weight Watchers and Mother to adorable son David! A lot sure has happened to the star over the past 8 years; from dominating her role as Effie White in Paramount Picture’s Dreamgirls, to rocking the stage with fellow VH1 Divas in 2011. As her life has changed so has her look. From her humble beginnings on Idol to her recent dramatic weight loss, J-Hud sure knows how to explore her fashion horizons and we all can’t deny that she looks great doing it! You go girl! I’m sure sexy fiance WWE fighter and Harvard Law graduate David Otunga would agree. With a wedding date set for the near future, and a career that won’t stop we can’t wait to see what this superstar will do next! Jennifer Hudson was filming scenes with Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty on the Smash set in New York yesterday. And geez, did she stand out. Her wardrobe consisted off a hot pink mindress, edgy jacket and studded flats (which we now covet) but it was her face that garnered all the attention. Jennifer, on the left, came on set without any makeup on and didn’t care that there were cameras around. Not that she needs to because the woman’s skin is absolutely flawless. Was there any base on her because it’s ridiculously smooth? Her no-makeup look was soon transformed as she got ready for her shot and bam — glamazon! Big hair, defined eyes and glossy pink lips. We’d like a professional artist with us at all times too, thank you very much. But here’s the thing — now that we’ve seen the before and after shots of J.Hud, we’re totally loving the bare-faced version. If we saw her like that (with less messy, transition hair) in that dress and with those shoes, we’d still do a double-take because she looks awesome. We’re guessing “summer vacation” means something different when mom and dad can whip you off to St. Tropez or Maui any time of year, but it still means something for celebrity kids, judging from the fun pics we’ve seen. School’s out, mom and dad take you to the park, the beach, the yacht, the private jet, and you get to play all you want. For some little ones, like Jessica Simpson’s daughter Maxwell or Hilary Duff’s son Luca, everything about summer must be new and fun, and the paparazzi don’t have anything on mom’s need to capture their every move. Jennifer Hudson’s and Gwen Stefani’s sons had to squeeze their fun in with their parents’ busy work schedules. Kids like Matilda Ledger and Sean Federline got to spend some quality time with their moms’ significant others. And we’re happy to see that even the children of newly split parents, like Suri Cruise, and Heidi Klum and Seal’s brood, were able to enjoy some carefree moments in the sun.

In the wake of murders in Colorado last week, we have all been a bit on edge and in desperate need of some justice. So, we welcome today’s news about the sentencing for the man who murdered Jennifer Hudson‘s mother, Darnell Donerson, brother Jason Hudson, and 7-year-old nephew Julian King in 2008. Finally, after an overwhelming amount of pain and loss for JHud’s family, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
William Balfour has been sentenced to serve three consecutive life sentences in prison. While Balfour is probably not to keen on his future behind bars, his sentence gives us all some peace of mind. Balfour’s sentence follows his May 11 conviction on three accounts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Jennifer’s beloved family members, along with home invasion, residential burglary, aggravated kidnapping and possession of a stolen vehicle. While such allegations against Balfour have certainly gained him the least popular vote in media, and have evidently not earned him much sympathy in the courtroom, Balfour has continued to proclaim his innocence. After the prosecution cited “overwhelming circumstantial evidence,” including death threats against his estranged wife and Jennifer’s sister, Julia Hudson, this guy still would not let up. He even blamed Jennifer Hudson’s fame for his guilty verdict, to no avail. According to TMZ, during his sentencing hearing, the judge told Balfour, “Your soul is as barren as dark space.”

Beyonce, Fergie and the Jenners were just a few of the celebs who couldn’t wait to show the world their fab 4th ensembles. Jennifer Hudson may not have won the third season of American Idol many moons ago, but she is definitely winning in her life as it stands now. J. Hud is one of the rare singers whose acting chops come closely equal to her powerful voice. When word spread about her role as Winnie Mandela in the biopic Winnie, we were excited to see what the Oscar winning singer could do with the role of the anti-apartheid historical figure. After being convicted of murder last month, William Balfour, the man who killed Jennifer Hudson‘s mother, brother and nephew in October 2008, is apparently looking for a retrial. According to Balfour and his attorney, it was Jennifer Hudson‘s fame that was at least partially responsible for his guilty verdict. Uh…huh. “The testimony was irrelevant, and because of the fame of the witness, the prejudicial effect of the testimony on the jury outweighed any probative value that it would have,” Balfour’s assistant public defender Amy Thompson said in a motion she submitted today; Hudson was the first witness to testify against her former brother-in-law in court. That’s how being famous works, right? Juries just convict people based on whether they liked Dreamgirls? Oh no…considering everyone liked Dreamgirls, we now face the complete collapse of the American judicial system!
In JHud’s defense, the prosecution in Balfour’s case reportedly called over 80 witnesses, presented evidence of death threats made by Balfour toward Hudon’s sister Julia and cited “overwhelming circumstantial evidence” against him. Meanwhile, the defense called two witnesses and rested their case after 30 minutes. Is all we’re saying. Either way, we hope justice will be served, but come on…let’s give jurors at least some credit.
