Beyoncé played host to a gaggle of famous friends at the world premiere of Life Is But A Dream, her new HBO documentary, last night. Of course, her immediate family — husband Jay-Z, sister Solange, and mother Tina— were all there to support her, but it’s not everyday that the one and only Oprah Winfrey shows up to your movie premiere!
Beyoncé‘s new HBO documentary, Life Is But A Dream, is set to premiere on HBO this Saturday night. While we have already canceled all of our plans that night in anticipation of spending the evening on the couch soaking in the experience, Bey unveiled the film at New York City’s historic Ziegfield Theater last night for her most fabulous and well-to-do friends, including dapper husband Jay-Z, pantsless sis Solange, and Her Royal Highness, Queen Oprah Winfrey, among others.
OK, last night’s Super Bowl featured plenty of the old-school ads: a woman in a bikini advertising the “topless” Fiat, guys doing ridiculous things to get good luck for their team, Bar Refaeli kissing a nerd (god, we still can’t get that sound out of our heads!). But as if to match Beyonce and her all-female band, the commercials seemed to be heavily tilted towards women (and the sensitive men we love), at least compared to most sporting events. (Which, duh, in 2011 and 2012, ladies made up 45 percent of the Super Bowl TV audience, so it’s about damn time!) We already had a hint that this was happening last week, when we got sneak peeks at the Seth Rogen/Paul Rudd-led Samsung ad and the “Space Babies” Kia commercial. Here are more of our favorites:

Rihanna and Chris Brown are by no means an official couple yet, but there are apparently a lot of people who would be happy to see it happen. Among these folks are Oprah Winfrey and Rihanna’s own father! Riri’s pop Ronald Fenty recently spoke to In Touch magazine about the man convicted for assaulting his daughter in 2009. And he you know what? Ron thinks he’s a standup guy! “I love Chris, man. He’s got so much charisma. And he’s always had so much respect for me. That’s what I love about him. He’s always shown me respect.”
Ronald, a recovering drug addict who physically abused Rihanna’s mother in the past, has forgiven Brown for what he did, and urges the world to the same. “I think everyone makes mistakes and they shouldn’t be held to them forever. Everyone should be forgiven once. There’s a lot more to Chris than the whole world knows.” That may sound like a surprising move for a parent, but bear in mind that this is also the dude who called Rihanna fat. Read that back to yourself. Rihanna. Named Esquire’s Sexiest Woman Alive last year. Fat. We’re not confrontational people, but we may have a problem with Mr. Fenty and his opinions. But it’s hard to argue with his last statement on the matter, we guess. “I know they love each other. They always have. She’s happiest when she’s around him, and as long as she’s happy, I am happy and the whole world should be too.”
Usher’s protracted divorce and custody battle with Tameka Foster finally came to an end last month, and we’re sure all involved parties are looking forward to a bit of privacy. But first! Usher agreed to one last probing interrogation, on this week’s Oprah’s Next Chapter.
“He said that he would talk to me and then he’s never gonna talk again,” Oprah says in a new promo for the episode. She asks him about “about his marriage … the fact that his mother didn’t come to the marriage … the fact that he’s gone through three years of a custody battle, now has primary custody of his own children … about breaking down on the stage in Berlin … what really made him cry on the witness stand. … He talks about everything, no holds barred. ”
If you think this video will give you a hint at his answers, you will be disappointed. This is a major tease that features only part of his response to that Berlin question: “I felt like I would never perform again.”
But O makes up for the lack of actual Usher quotes with her own enthusiasm for this interview, especially when she shifts into lustful lady interviewer mode to tell us, “And then I asked him the question I always wanted to know, maybe you do to: Does he make love to his own music?”
He grins his sexiest of grins and says, “I love that.” What we love even more is the face Oprah makes at the end of the clip, revealing a side of O we rarely see, and it is awesomely awkward. More, please.
Russell Brand sure does like the pop stars! Less than a year after his split with teenage dream Katy Perry, the comedian was photographed leaving the home of Spice Girl Geri Halliwell. It’s been rumored that the two have started a romance after getting reacquainted at the Olympic closing ceremony earlier this month. “Geri has said they have a spiritual connection through yoga and they practise asana together,” a friend told Britain’s Sun paper. “‘Russell is known for action between the sheets but he is actually very good at just sitting still in silence. It is something that has acted as a bond for he and Geri as their relationship blossoms.”

Some days, there is so much foolishness going on in the world, it’s all we can do not to collapse onto our fainting couches and fan ourselves with one hand. That was our immediate reaction upon reading that Olympic gold medal winner Gabby Douglas had to deal with racism from her fellow gymnasts on her way to the top. “I felt [I was] being bullied,” Douglas revealed to Oprah on yesterday’s Oprah’s Next Chapter about her time training at her home gym in Virginia Beach. When her teammates were asked to scrape the balance bar, for example, “They’re like, ‘Why doesn’t Gabby do it? She’s our slave.” Great slavery joke, you guys! If only you were as good at being a human being as you are on the uneven bars!
Recalled Gabby, “I definitely felt isolated. I felt, ‘Why am I deserving this? Is it because I’m black?’ Those thoughts would go through my mind.” Of course, we probably shouldn’t be too surprised that the Olympic gymnast had to deal with all this; the kerfuffle over Gabby Douglas’ hair during the Olympics made our eyes roll so far back into our heads, we had to use a dust buster to pull them out. Eventually the bullying got so bad, Gabby’s mom Natalie Hawkins explained, “She said, ‘I’d rather quit. If I can’t move and train and get another coach, I’d rather quit the sport.’” Luckily Gabby was able to move to a gym in Iowa to work with Shawn Johnson‘s coach Liang Chow, and the rest is history. It is literally world history, and no one can take that away from her. Meanwhile, if we were Gabby, we’d be so tempted to slowly drive past our old gym wearing our gold medal, but she’s probably way too classy for that.
