We’re having fond memories of the Great Expectations version which released back in 1998 with Ethan Hawke and an absolutely breathtaking Gwyneth Paltrow. Remember that one? This latest one, due to release late November this year, feels like its going to blow its 1998 predecessor out of the water. Directed by Mike Newell of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, it stars Helena Bonham Carter as Ms. Havisham and Ralph Fiennes as Magwitch and honestly, after watching this trailer, we don’t really care about the actors playing Pip and Estella’s roles. Carter and Fiennes are just perfectly cast and we pity anyone sharing screen space with those two. Alright, alright, Pip’s played by Jeremy Irvine of War Horse fame. He does a decent job in the trailer but like we said, anyone pales in comparison against those other two English thespians. We’re most concerned with Holliday Grainger who portrays Estella. She didn’t stand out at all for us, but we’re going to give her the benefit of the doubt and wait till we actually watch the film. Perhaps the next trailer will change our minds? Holliday’s had roles in both Jane Eyre and Bel Ami, FYI. We cannot tell you how excited we are about this film, as the book never gets old for us. Newell paints a beautiful picture that seems to be muted and lush at the same time, staying true to a Dickensian atmosphere. Goosebumps, all over. Have a look for yourselves.
If Harry Potter erotic fan fiction is your thing, then this post is for you. If listening to Ralph Fiennes dramatically read Voldemort/Harry slash fiction out loud while wearing adorable pajamas is your thing, then maybe the Secret really does work. What other explanation could there possibly be for something so delightfully specific? And filthy?
Stopping by Andy Cohen‘s Watch What’s Happening Live on Bravo last night, the Harry Potter and the Dealthy Hallows: Part 2 villain was cajoled into reading some erotic fiction starring none other than He Who Cannot Be Named himself. Not having a nose or a sense of morality has never been so hot! “How is it possible that the touch of this evil man could feel so wickedly good?” Fiennes reads. We’ll let you listen to rest of the NSFW video yourself since it’s sort of scandalous. Though extremely fictional! And about fictional characters! Man, we thought our crush on Ralph Fiennes could never get any bigger. Or…um…our crush on Voldemort. We are so ashamed.
This one’s for all of you who enjoyed Sam Worthington‘s glowering turn as Perseus in Clash Of The Titans last year. The official trailer for the sequel — Wrath Of The Titans — is out and is scheduled to hit cinemas next year. All the usual suspects are in: Worthington, Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson, who now wants Perseus’ help ’cause dem Titans (who they believe to be “imprisoned forever”) are breaking free and they’re pissed! The eye candy in the movie is courtesy Rosamund Pike. As for Worthington, he’s still glowering but has longer, curlier hair which takes the edge off. Besides, the action and effects in this one look pretty insane. We’d put this in the ‘must watch’ pile.
Oh, oh, this is turning into a film we’re definitely not going to miss! As it is, we think that Daniel Craig is the most delicious James Bond ever since Roger Moore (sorry, Sean Connery). It’s a given that we’ll be watching him take on the role in each successive film. But really sealing the deal for us is this news: Javier Bardem is going to play the villain to Bond’s just-about good guy in the next film! The 23rd James Bond flick is rumored to be titled “Skyfall“.
Apparently, it was down to Bardem and Ralph Fiennes to bag the bad guy’s role, but it seems the Spanish actor won out in the end. He was on ABC’s Nightline recently, and revealed, “I am very excited, my parents took me to watch the movies, and I saw all of them, and to play that is going to be fun. They chose me to play this man, but I cannot give you many details.” We think he’s going to make a terrific villain! Do you?
There are few franchises that make us squee the way Harry Potter does. Twilight? Not really (sorry, Kate Spencer). The Hunger Games? We love it, but it still can’t hold a candle to the epic battle between The Boy Who Lived and He Who Must Not Be Named. So we’re thrilled and sad to watch this preview of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part Two because while we’re really excited to see it, it’s the end of an era. The movie comes out on July 15, 2011, after which point, Ralph Fiennes will finally get his nose back.
The premiere of Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 is exciting for so many reasons. Not only is the the penultimate installment of the beloved series, but it’s also the first time that the entire cast has completely come into their own and grown into adulthood and it’s (hopefully) not creepy for us to say that they’re a really good-looking bunch. The film premiered in New York last night at Alice Tully Hall and the cast and dozens of celebs (and their kids) were in attendance. And in a crowd full of fashion darlings like Sarah Jessica Parker and Lourdes Leon, it’s pretty safe to say the Emma Watson was easily the best dressed of the night in a slinky black number. Hermione Granger has officially gotten a makeover and she looks amazing.
We are seeing the film this week and are proud to say that we have never actually used the word “squee!!” for anything, but right about now we are totally squeeing our pants, We. Are. So. Excited. We can’t wait till Friday to discuss – are any die hard fans out there planning to hit up the midnight showing on Thursday? Let us know! And in the meantime, check out who attended last night’s premiere.
Do you hear that? That’s the sound of Harry Potter fans around the world hyperventilating. The first installment of the two-part epic Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows opens wide next Friday, but the cast kicked off festivities last night with the world premiere gala in London. Leading gents Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint looked dapper in dark suits, but costar Emma Watson stole the show (and our hearts) in a gorgeous black lace semi-see-through number. Scandalous! Perhaps she’s trying to catch Dan-Rad’s eye for Round Two of ambushing him with her lips. (jk, guys.)
Speaking of JK (*zing*), her majesty The Rowling looked dazzlingly elegant in a black gown. Helena Bonham Carter did not disappoint in her crazed Amy-Winehouse-On-A-Bender-At-Prom inspired outfit, and even Lisa Marie Presley made an appearance. Why? Because she could. Check out your favorite wizards, muggles and those-who-shall-not-be-named in the gallery below!
Gossip Girl star Ed Westwick and Quantum of Solace actress Gemma Arterton are said to be the two who’ll play star-crossed lovers Heathcliff and Cathy in a new movie version of Wuthering Heights. The two Brits beat out a host of other high-profile names — including Sienna Miller, Michael Fassbender and Natalie Portman — to bag the parts in the Emily Bronte adaptation. The last movie version in 1992 saw Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche in the main roles, and we think these two sexy stars will make the famously electric, tortured romance between the fictional lovers even hotter. In 1989, Ralph Fiennes was making a name for himself with the Royal Shakespeare Company while Luther Campbell was laying down under ass-cheeks on 2 Live Crew album covers. Today, Fiennes is the Academy Award-nominated star of everything from Harry Potter movies to The Reader, and Campbell’s family had it’s own reality show, Luther’s Parental Advisory. Both men were born on December 22nd—which one is older?
