A Totally Objective Guide To The Best Shipped Relationships Of 2012

After watching Spider-Man: The Animated Series in 1997, we decided Venom and Mary Jane Watson were actually a better couple than Mary Jane and Spider-Man, and we haven’t looked back since. In case you’re new to the Internet, pretty much every TV show, movie or otherwise fictional couple has a huge fan base swooning over their relationship. It might be a well-established couple or the characters might have met once to sign for a UPS package, it doesn’t matter. Someone is obsessed with them declaring their eternal love. This is a phenomenon known as shipping, and it is 75% of the reason anyone even knows about Twilight.

Maybe we just spent too much time on Tumblr over the last twelve months (we really, really did!), but 2012 seemed like a year where shipping was front and center. From New Girl to Sherlock, everywhere we looked shippers were building onto the fictional universes they loved, mostly with smooching. So we decided to pay homage to the most passionately shipped relationships of this year as part of our Best of 2012. Don’t see your favorite couple? From Game Of Thrones To Liz & Dick, We Look Back At The Best Wigs Of 2012

Have you ever heard of the Baader-Meinhof effect? Basically it’s a cognitive illusion in which, once you become aware of something, you notice it everywhere. For us, 2012 meant a year of noticing wigs in every single aspect of our lives. From TV shows like Vampire Diaries to movies like Liz & Dick to meat space like celebrities’ heads, we couldn’t blink without seeing yet another wig. Nor did we want to.

For example, did anyone else see The Hobbit? Critics turned up their nose at the film’s length, but no one breathed a word about all the magnificent dwarf wigs. (It’s better this way. It was a delightful surprise.) While we try to figure out how to obtain a braided-beard-attached-to-a-toupee wig like ol’ Bombur, check out the best of the best of 2012′s wigs. Celebrities — they’re just like us, right? By which we mean, our stars arrive as a mixed bag: We have our American sweethearts, the class clowns and, of course, the bad seeds. Even if it’s normal for a former Disney teenage star to flash her crotch in public these days, Santa does not approve. And yet other A-listers used their stardom in 2012 to rise above the fray, display their philanthropic ways, and prove there are menches in Hollywood. Their hard work does not go unnoticed, and we know those little elves (a.k.a., their agents) are stuffing some A-list gifts in their stockings. Because we all know that Justin Bieber really needs another hoodie. And maybe we need the Lindsay Lohans out there to make us appreciate the Matt Damons even more. Here we’ve broken down our list of our naughty n’ nice celebrities of 2012.

Naughty

1. Chris Brown – I don’t even know where to begin with this one. Brown brawled with Drake in a club, rekindled a romance with the woman he abused and tattooed an image of a battered woman on his neck. Ah, Chris Brown. You never fail to prove you are the biggest douchebag there ever was. Not only will Santa be skipping your house this year, but I can assure you, Dancer, Prancer, and Rudolph will send you a stocking filled with their droppings.

2. Amanda Bynes – The former child star who rose to fame with All That and The Amanda Show is now giving audiences a different kind of Amanda show — one filled with hit and runs and DUIs. Santa may not think you’re all that this year, but hopefully you can take that as a sign to get it together for 2013. Put down the booze, get some help, and nab a supporting role in an indie comedy to reboot your career. Or, if you’re really retiring from acting, take a break from making headlines too. We’re rooting for you, Amanda.

3. Nicki Minaj – Nicki needs to learn to respect her elders … and the divas around town. She and Mariah Carey have been at it since auditions of American Idol this year, and we’re placing blame on the rap star who allegedly threatened to “shoot” Mariah in an argument. There’s no need for that kind of drama in the search for America’s next pop star, is there? Coal for you, Ms. Minaj.

Merry Christmas, happy Hanukkah, joyful Kwanzaa, and — why not? — happy birthday too, while you’re at it! It’s the holiday seasons, folks; the time of year for giving to our nearest and dearest. And for you, dear readers, we could think of no better gift than 100 of the sexiest bikini photos that this year had to offer! We’ve got some of everybody, and we do mean everybody. There might even been one of you in there. We’ve got that many!

Of course this uber-gallery is presided over by Beyonce, who ruled over our 2012 Bikini Awards just like she does with the rest of the known universe. In fact, she was able to defy time and win the coveted award with pics that were (technically) from 2011. That’s the power of Queen Bey! In addition to her, our list is chock-full of other pop queens like Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga, and big-screen A-listers like Scarlett Johansson, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Alba. TV personalities Maria Menounos and Angela Simmons made a strong showing, too. We’ve also got shots from the usual suspects like reality star Kim Kardashian, never-shy Twitter mama Adrianne Curry and Coco, the Patron Saint of Donks.

Some of our very own VH1 stars like Mob Wives’ Drita D’Avanzo and Basketball Wives’ Evelyn Lozada put in an appearance, as did Hunger Games leading lady (and our personal favorite) Jennifer Lawrence. Professional hotties Kate Upton and Brooklyn Decker look straight out of the pages of Sports Illustrated, while Victoria’s Secret Angels Miranda Kerr, Heidi Klum and Adriana Lima are simply heavenly.

November is traditionally the month that we all give thanks, and we definitely have a lot to be thankful for with these hot social media savvy celebs! Gorgeous superstars like Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus couldn’t resist sharing intimate snaps with their adoring Twitter and Instagram followings. But that was just the start! Tennis legend Serena Williams showed off her championship bikini curves while on vacation, and Scarlett Johansson showed off her scandalous new tattoo. Jessica Simpson showed off her fab new post pregnancy bod, while former Spy Kid Alexa Vega showed off the fact that she grew up. What a bunch of show offs! Whitney Houston’s The Bodyguard Turns 20! Here Are 6 Celebs Who Lived The Movie In Real Life

It’s hard to believe that Whitney Houston made her acting debut 20 years ago today in the classic film The Bodyguard! The multi-platinum diva showed off her killer acting chops along side Kevin Costner, and the heat between the pair made the flick the second highest grossing movie of 1992. Plus, the soundtrack also went on to become the greatest selling soundtrack album of all time (in your face, Grease)!

And we also imagine it’s Heidi Klum’s favorite movie. In case you haven’t heard, the 39 year old modeling legend is currently romantically involved with her bodyguard, Martin Kristen. But she’s by no means the only celebrity who took The Bodyguard as a how-to-guide for relationship success.  We’re guessing that stars like Britney Spears and Scarlett Johansson were also big fans. Mary-Kate Olsen, Halle Berry, Scarlett Johansson Show Us: French Boyfriends Are All The Rage

Halle Berry, Mary-Kate Olsen, Melissa George, Scarlett Johansson and Hilary Swank are all dating French men

Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy have been dating since May, but after an uptick in their public appearances (and PDA) of late, it seems like the world is still coming to terms with whether this couple is creepy, cute or just plain odd. But if we keep harping on the age difference between the 25-year-old actress-turned-fashion mogul and her 42-year-old businessman BF, we’re missing something else in this story: French guys are the hottest new accessory for Hollywood ladies. First we saw Halle Berry and her delicious actor fiance Olivier Martinez. Then Aussie beauty Melissa George, after her split from Russell Simmons, hooked up with French millionaire Jean-David Blanc and was recently spotted shopping for wedding dresses.

Hilary Swank took up with French real estate broker Laurent Fleury this fall, and already they’re said to be sharing his apartment in Paris when they’re not going for romantic walks in Venice Beach. And just this week, Scarlett Johansson was spotted in New York with Romain Dauriac, the former editor of French art magazine Clark, whom she may have met through her tattoo artist.

We have no way of knowing if all these French paramours share anything in common besides incredibly sexy accents (and possibly bank accounts large enough to keep up with these successful ladies), but it’s nice to know the only ones who’ve dreamed of being swept off our feet by a barely shaved, impossibly masculine guy who also knows how to order wine and make us feel like a princess. Not to buy into stereotypes or anything.

Scarlett Johansson Gets Tatted Up, Also Gets Her Psycho On For V Magazine

It’s kind of hard not to stare at this V cover of Scarlett Johansson. We’ve already marveled at the photographs of her as Janet Leigh in Hitchcock, which is based on the making of Psycho. Having said that, you now know exactly what the cover photograph is about, as it’s so clearly a take on Psycho‘s legendary shower scene. She looks feral and gorgeous and scary all at once making this one of the most arresting covers we’ve seen on the magazine yet. This is also reminiscent of the W magazine goth cover Scarlett did, which was extreme in a similar way. Looks like magazines with initials agree with her! Of filming the actual scene, the actress said, “We only had the luxury to shoot the scene for a day, and everybody was feeling very nervous because it involved water and nobody wants the actor to get wet. They were concerned with modesty and all these things – but I don’t care about any of that stuff and Janet Leigh never did either.” Yeah, we have a feeling plenty of people would be just fine with Scarlett showing up to work and jumping into a shower.

It’s also been interesting to see her without the makeup on in this photo published by Celebuzz of Scarlett’s new tattoo. It’s a horseshoe with the words “Lucky You” inked on her right ribacage. As in, lucky you to see Scarlett’s ribcage? She got it while visiting Paris a week ago, and it was done by the French tattoo artist Fuzi Uvtpk. What do you think of it? It feels a little … country to us, but hey, is she’s happy, we are too.
