If Rihanna has a reality show in addition to being one of the biggest stars in the world, shouldn’t Lady Gaga have a side gig or eight as well? Barbra Streisand certainly thinks so, and has that woman ever been wrong? WELL, HAS SHE? No. According to Time‘s Joel Stein, Babs is hoping to steer Gaga toward the big screen, fantasy-casting her in the upcoming remake of Gypsy, ostensibly as burlesque perfumer Gypsy Rose Lee. “I told [Streisand] what a mullet is, she told me she’s thinking of casting Lady Gaga as the lead in her remake of Gypsy.” Stein writes. Let’s see…singing, dancing, wearing fabulously trashy outfits. We might be crazy here, but this just might work. Dear God, would Barbra play her insane stage mother Mama Rose? This right here is why Streisand makes the big bucks. This is the best idea since Bette Midler starred in the 1993 version of Gypsy, which historians agree was the best idea ever.
Of course, Gaga’s proposed role in the musical-based movie remake would be on top of her world tour, her work on the upcoming album ARTPOP, making her first big screen appearance in the upcoming Machete Kills, continuing her work with her Born This Way Foundation and recently teaming up with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), beginning with her current visit to South Africa. That feels about right. That feels like a reasonable workload for a human being.

If star spotting are your thing then you should have been in Malibu yesterday. Celebrities were dotted all over the place — with their kids and significant others — from the beach to parks, and it looked like the ideal way to celebrate Memorial Day. Katie Holmes and Suri had a whale of a time on the beach, as did Gavin Rossdale, Gwen Stefani and their two sons Kingston and Zuma. Also seen enjoying the surf with their kids were Marcia Cross and her daughters, and a preggers Tori Spelling. Spelling had rented a seaside home with her husband Dean McDermott.
Doing the whole beach party thing sans kids were a very pregnant January Jones and Barbra Streisand, who attended the same party. Cisco Adler and his wife also caught some sun. Checking out Malibu playgrounds and parks were Adam Sandler and his daughters (as seen in the picture above), as well as Alessandra Ambrosio and her daughter Anja. We hope you had a great long weekend too!

Though noticably short on rock stars (Rob Thomas may pass for Steve Perry, but Joel Madden does not pass for Bruce Springsteen), Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie assembled an impressive array of talent for their 25th anniversary re-recording of “We Are The World” Monday night. Among those appearing on the single to benefit Haitian relief efforts are Akon, Will.I.Am, Beach Boys Brian Wilson and Al Jardine, Tony Bennett, Justin Bieber, Toni Braxton, Miley Cyrus, Celine Dion, Jamie Foxx, Tyrese Gibson, Josh Groban, Heart’s Ann and Nancy Wilson, Keri Hilson, Jennifer Hudson, Enriquie Iglesias, Wyclef Jean, the Jonas Brothers, Kid Cudi, Gladys Knight, LL Cool J, Katharine McPhee, Jason Mraz, Pink, Carlos Santana, Nicole Scherzinger, Snoop Dogg, Jordin Sparks, Barbra Streisand, Usher and Kanye West, who was undoubtedly on his best behavior after that Hope For Haiti snub.
While Lil Wayne has revealed he covered Bob Dylan’s vocal, the full singing order has yet to be revealed (we’re pretty sure Vince Vaughn redid Dan Ackroyd‘s part, though). Check out photos from the recording, which was shot in 3-D for release later this month, in the gallery below.
