Beyonce refuses to wear her engagement ring every day, busting the blingy beast out only for special occasions. And now that we’ve been up close and personal with the diva’s diamond, we can see why. The thing is obnoxiously huge and surely must weigh a ton. The poor girl lost all that weight on the Master Cleanse, only to then lug it around on her finger! Sure, the $5 million ring is lovely, but is it really necessary to have 18 carats worth of Jay-Z’s love on your left hand? [Photo: GettyImages]
Is it just us? Or do Beyonce and Jay-Z look like the happiest couple ever? Together since 2002, the two finally tied the knot in April — and that “honeymoon glow” still hasn’t worn off. Spending the holidays on a $200,000-a-week yacht near St. Barts in the Caribbean, the stars couldn’t keep their hands off each other.
We’d like to throw out some school yard cliches (like “All aboard The Love Boat” or “Beyonce rides more than a jet-ski”) about their fairy-tale romance, but Beyonce and Jay-Z are almost too cute to make fun of. [Photos: Splash News Online]
When we see Solange, our immediate reaction is to pity her. Wouldn’t it suck, we think, to have Beyonce as a sister? Wouldn’t it be hard if your music sold only a fraction of her music? And if you were unlucky in love and your sister was married to The Supreme Being of Hip-Hop?
But then we remind ourselves that Solange is rich and beautiful and never has to wait in a line to get in a bar or a club or a restaurant. No, don’t pity Solange. Loathe her …
Mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the curviest of them all? Kim Kardashian, clearly. The majority of Scandalist readers believe that Kim had the curviest goods in 2008. But Beyonce put up a strong fight — and even beat Kim in mobile polling.
Beyonce and Jay-Z pulled off their rooftop wedding in NYC with the secrecy of a black ops mission. Only Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds came close to matching their stealth. Check the official results …
It’s hard to tell what Beyonce was going for when she explained to OK! Magazine how the Knowles aren’t like a certain legendary R&B family. “I grew up upper class. Private school. My dad had a Jaguar. We’re African-American and we work together as a family, so people assume we’re like The Jacksons. But I didn’t have parents using me to get out of a bad situation.” Was she criticizing people for stereotyping African-American families or was she dissing Michael and Co. for being lower class? According to the National Enquirer, one person who’d like to know is Janet Jackson.
Janet wanted to know why Beyonce had to mention her family. They’re not friends and barely know each other. She feels Beyonce went out of her way to tell the world she’s from the upper class and the Jacksons were like a bunch of dirty gutter rats. Janet is proud of her family and how they came from nothing and became superstars.
Not only is Janet telling everyone who will listen that Beyonce has a lot of growing up to do and that she needs to stop trying to impress everyone, she’s planning to confront Beyonce herself and read her the riot act.
With Beyonce enjoying bigger sales and married to a more successful rapper/CEO than Janet’s boyfriend Jermaine Dupri (when is he gonna put a ring on it, anyway?), it’s not surprising that Janet would take Beyonce for a stuck-up. But unless Janet’s determined to hold a grudge, we’re guessing this will end with hugging and crying rather than a musical battle. Has it been only seven years since Janet had Destiny’s Child sing “Let’s Wait Awhile” at her MTV: Icon tribute?
Britney Spears underwhelmed the British populace a couple of weeks back with her lackluster appearance on the X-Factor, but on Saturday night’s finale Beyonce demonstrated just what performing is all about. In a totally oh-my-god-she’s-amazing fashion. Duetting on her track Listen with the show’s eventual winner Alexandra Burke, we’re in fresh awe at Sasha Fierce and her incredible talent. Just watch the clip (above) for proof, if it ever needed be, that Beyonce is brilliant.
Then watch Britney on the same show (below) and feel a bit cheated. (Actually, don’t. It’ll just leave you even more worried all over again).
Well, perhaps. If you think British people aren’t known for their emotional natures, just check out Saturday’s final of The X-Factor, which saw North London’s Alexandra Burke triumph at the end of a mammoth competition. The super-talented singer, who earlier in the evening almost expired upon singing with Beyonce, properly collapsed upon learning she’d won over boyband JLS.
We had the mouth-open-in-shock gasp! The fall on the floor drama! The hyperventilation! The awkward seconds while she’s not even able to speak into the microphone! The avalanche of tears that threaten to remove all makeup! And then the moments when she can’t actually sing her winners’ song — a cover of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah — because of the pure damn drama. Ahhhh.
The conservative pundits were right! Barack Obama has stacked his cabinet with celebrities like Morgan Freeman, Barbra Streisand, George Jones, The Who and Twyla Tharp! Dude is crazy!
Actually, those five are the line-up of 2008 Kennedy Center Honorees, who were treated to a fine fete last night. Obama wasn’t present—though Streisand took a peck on the cheek from our current president, yow—but plenty of stars were there to salute and perform for the legends of film, song and stage. The ceremony won’t air on CBS until December 30th, so you’ll just have to check out the gallery to see who got gussied up for the event.
Beyonce may be a Grammy-winning multi-platinum selling artist, but that doesn’t stop her mom Tina Knowles from setting her daughter straight once in a while. Mrs. Jay-Z works it on the cover of Elle this month, and in the inside interview, Tina tells of a time B got a little too divaish and she had to slap her daughter back into shape.
“My husband came up and said, ‘Tina! She’s got the No. 1 record on the radio!’ I said, ‘I don’t care!’ I was terrified. I had seen people take your child and turn them into something you didn’t want them to be. I taught my girls to pick up their own suitcases. Pretty is as pretty does. Like my mother said, ‘You got to be cute on the inside,’ ” Tina says.
