10 Awesomely Awful ’80s Perms

View Photo Gallery

The ’80s were a time of questionable fashion trends. This is a fact. Though many of the looks ended up being recycled (like neon and ripped jeans), there are some that have no business ever seeing the light of day again. One of the worst? Perms. In every incarnation — be it the poodle perm, the body wave, crimped coifs, hair metal manes, Designing Women helmets — the perm was hilarious at best, criminal at worst (seriously, Whitesnake’s David Coverdale deserves a fine).

View Photo Gallery

If you love watching celebrities making spectacles (and spectacular disasters of themselves) THIS is the most wonderful time of the year: We’re still chuckling to ourselves over the Golden Globe Awards disasters and gleefully looking forward to the Grammys and the Oscars. As we count down the hours to red carpet glory, we thought we’d take a second to think back fondly at the moments when stars and their stylists took their desire to make headlines a little TOO far. As in, Bjork, most people remember your 2001 Oscar swan gown better than anything you ever sang…

Spice Girls, Magic Mike, Cher…What Other Thing You Love Will Become A Musical Next?

Spice Girls Musical, Cher Musical, Magic Mike Musical In The Works

Honestly, up until today we thought all the things we love were already on Broadway: Mormons, phantoms, cats, Raven-Symone. Then we remembered how much we love the Spice Girls, Cher and (we’re assuming, even though we haven’t seen it yet) Magic Mike, and the universe quickly made those things into musicals too. Cher tweeted this week that a musical based on her life is already in the works. If that didn’t elicit an audible gasp from your lips, you should also know that the show stars three different Chers…and “[A]ll three Chers will talk and sing to each other.” Three times the Cher!

Meanwhile we’d already heard about a possible Spice Girls reunion at this summer’s London Olympics and today our favorite band from the sixth grade announced that Viva Forever!, the jukebox musical featuring their music, will hit the West End on December 11. The musical is being shaped by Mamma Mia! creator Judy Craymore and written by Absolutely Fabulous star Jennifer Saunders, and will star….wait for it…”Viva, a young woman with a chaotic home life who looks to resolve feelings about her adoption through belief in herself, female friendship and, well, ‘girl power.’” Of course it does.

Our 10 Favorite Celebrity-Rocker Couples Of The ’80s And ’90s: A Rock Of Ages Fashion Flashback

Richie Sambora and Cher, Heather Locklear and Tommy Lee, Ric Ocasek and Paulina Porizkova, Valerie Bertinelli and Eddie Van Halen

As we gear up for the release of Rock of Ages this week, we’ve been looking back at some of the trends the nostalgic musical so lovingly celebrates, like Malin Akerman’s sexy rocker-chick look and Mary J. Blige’s flashy jumpsuits. More than any one fashion, the movie reminds us of one big trend the late ’80s and early ’90s were famous for: the groupie. Not just the girls who flashed their goods from the audience or hung around by the tour buses, either — there were plenty of high-profile ladies who were eager for a backstage pass. And some of them got a lot more than a private concert in the bargain.

As we gathered this list of our favorite celebrity-rocker pairs, from Cher and Gene Simmons to Tommy Lee and Heather Locklear, one other thing became very evident: All of these couples seemed to share taste in makeup, tight pants, big hair and baggy blazers. It even looks like Eddie Van Halen and Valerie Bertinelli got their hair cut together. And maybe Rod Stewart and Rachel Hunter could swap blazers, while Axl Rose and Stephanie Seymour traded acid-washed jeans. We’re not sure what exactly Melissa Gilbert and Billy Idol had in common, but, yeah, that happened!

Cher Through The Years: Happy 66th Birthday!

Cher has big plans for 2012, but don’t call it a comeback. The pop goddess has rarely slowed down in her 49-year career. Cher began recording her 26th studio album as of 2011, and plans to release “The Greatest Thing,” a duet with Lady Gaga, as its first single. The Armenian beauty won’t stop there. Cher announced via Twitter in February that she will also tour beginning in September 2012, her first tour in seven years. While she upholds her music and acting career, the mom of two still manages to be there for her kids. Not only was Cher  Chaz Bono’s biggest fan while he was on Dancing With The Stars, but she also recently attended the GLAAD Media Awards with her son. Cher is such a supporter of Chaz and LGBT rights, she’s currently in a feud with Mitt Romney and Donald Trump over the issue.

The singer and actress has so much to be proud of. From her beginning as part of the pop rock duo Sonny & Cher, to becoming a television personality on her own variety show, to her acclaimed roles in films like Mask and Moonstruck, Cher is definitely a triple threat. She’s also had quite the love life — she’s been linked to everyone from Elvis Presley to Richie Sambora. Today Cher turns 66 years old, and we decided to turn back time and take a look at how she’s held onto that flawless physique and radiant beauty (with a little help from her surgeon friends) through the years.

Josh Hutcherson, Chaz Bono, Kat Graham Celebrate Equality In Style At GLAAD Media Awards

The 23rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards went down on Saturday night at at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in L.A. Lovely ladies like Kat Graham, Ali Larter and Milla Jovovich attended. Larter looked tiny in a ruched red Zac Posen dress while Jovovich was draped in vintage Halston. Kat nailed it in a strapless black gown by Indian designer duo Alpana Neeraj. Grand dames like Betty White made an appearance too. She walked the red carpet with Wendie Malick and Jane Leeves — her co-stars on Hot in Cleveland.

Cher and Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack presented the Stephen F. Kolzak Award to Chaz Bono for making a significant difference in promoting equality. We also love that Josh Hutcherson got the Vanguard Award for the LGBT ally organization he co-founded called Straight But Not Narrow. The award was presented to him by Benicio del Toro, no less. Have a look for yourselves at all the very evident camaraderie between the stars in the gallery below.

30 Greatest Oscar Fashion Flops Of All Time

In addition to the films and the accolades, the Oscars have a long, illustrious history as a place where questionable celebrity fashion goes to die. While assembling our Academy Awards fashion flops list, we realized that, sure, there are always going to be standbys like Cher or Nicole Kidman who reach for the stars, only to land on the Worst-Dressed List. More surprising, however, are the normally smoking-hot stars who somehow manage to biff it super hard on the red carpet. Scarlett Johansson? Kate Winslet? Natalie Portman? Were your stylists out sick … forever? We also discovered that 2004 was an inexplicably terrible year for Oscars gowns. We have no idea why. Don’t take our word for it, though; check out our gallery of worst Oscars looks ever, and tell us which outfit makes you cringe the most.

Cher Has A Twitter Fit Over Franco’s Foiled Burlesque Tribute

Celebrities, check it out: there’s no such thing as deleting a tweet. If you throw a Twitter tantrum over not getting an Oscar nomination, like Cher did today, the internet will store it in full even after you declare a “disappointment pass.” Judging from her rant, the Academy not letting James Franco sing Burlesque‘s “You Haven’t Seen The Last Of Me” at this weekend’s ceremony was insult to injury. “Ok this IS ME BEING A BABY ! MY HEART IS BROKEN ! I WAS UPSET AFTER WINNING THE GOLDEN GLOBE…James Franco was going to dress up in the “Welcome to Burlesque outfit & sing U Haven’t Seen the Last of me…I was OVER THE MOON ! cause even if I did get Snubbed by the music part of the Academy…How Cool was it to sing your song…To have YOUR SONG sung by James Fkn Franco in Your Outfit ! Well I guess his singing ( unlike his Acting Sucks )…But he COULD HAVE LIP SYNCED! oh well I’m all sour grapes! It was GREAT THAT HE thought the Song was good enough to try!”

She’s since deleted everything except a brief acknowledgment of James’ tribute, including a whole bit about how a “Blue Ribbon Panel” decides who gets an Oscar nom for song “Unlike ALL Actors Getting To Deciede Who The ACTOR Nominees will b!” But Cher did tweet one apology in regards to her freakouts: “One thing. Didn’t Know caps were shouting! Sorry! I’m SO out of the loop . Probably out of the loop Is outta the loop.” We’ll be surprised if Franco doesn’t make some reference to this drama on air Sunday.

Cher Gets All Kanye On Twitter For Being Slighted By The Oscars

Whenever Oscar nominations are announced there’s always one camp who get seriously pissed off—people who didn’t get a nod and therefore feel slighted (that’s an understatement). The Oscar nominations 2011 have been no exception. Although the most vociferous of the noms-haters may come as a bit of a surprise. It’s Cher who’s mad that Burlesque didn’t get a Best Song nomination (she’s in the movie , of course). She thinks they were robbed, tweeting, ” We didn’t get a nomination 4 best song! That sucks! Diane’s song Is so beautiful! It’s hard to understand how u win…” She continued her rant in the next tweet, “the Golden Globe 4 BEST SONG & not even get nominated by the OSCARS? Oh well it is..what it is … the sun us still shining!” That wasn’t the end so do visit Cher’s Twitter account for the amusing read.

The reason why she’s got all Kanye West is because Diane Warren won Best Original Song at The Golden Globes for You haven’t seen the last of Me for Burlesque, and thanked Cher onstage for being an “eternal bad-ass.”  Cher… it’s Burlesque. Which is probably going to be the new-Showgirls for humanity from now until the next really bad film comes out. It’s not that big of a surprise the Oscars shut it down.
