Gigantic blond curls, larger-than-life curves, sizzlingly on-screen chemistry with Mr. Burt Reynolds (we assuming)…is it us or is Nicki Minaj slowly morphing into Dolly Parton? If so, based on photos snapped during Nicki’s visit to Good Morning America today to promote her new MAC Viva Glam lipstick, the transformation is nearly complete!
As if that wasn’t enough evidence for you (and it should be), Minaj’s cover forNew York Magazine’s Spring Fashion issue could basically be a poster for Rhinestone Cowboy. We’re kidding, of course. We acknowledge Dolly Parton and Nicki Minaj each have their own very distinct (yet complementary) steez. That being said, we’re still going to cross our fingers for a Nicki Minaj/Kenny Rogers duet. And you know it’s only a matter of time before they remake The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas!
Hello, Dolly! An icon of stage and screen for over 40 years, Dolly Parton has become the platinum-blond standard of what a star should be. She’s made more that 40 (yes, 40!) albums over the decades, received two Academy Award nominations, acted in beloved classics like 9 to 5 and Steel Magnolias, and founded her own charitable foundation. Hell, she even has her own theme park. Dumb blonde, she ain’t! And she’s done it all while always looking like a million bucks. Literally! “It takes a lot of money to look this cheap,” she famously said, but her self-deprecation only makes us love her even more.
But in addition to all of her glittering career accomplishments over the years, the self-proclaimed “Backwoods Barbie” is also known for her fabulous figure, which she’s -err- prone to showing off on occasion. We’ll come right out and say it: she’s famed for wearing some of the most jaw-droppingly low necklines in showbiz. At 65 years old, she’s showing no sign of slowing down or covering up. Earlier this week she showed up to the the premiere of her latest movie, Joyful Noise, in one of her most blatantly boob baring outfits yet! And it goes without saying that she looked as stunning as ever. So in honor of her new movie opening wide today, we’d like to celebrate with a look at some of Dolly’s most cleavage-tastic outfits of all time. So make some joyful noise and head to the gallery below!
Queen Latifah may have bypassed the red carpet at the VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul event last night, but that only served to make her onstage appearance even more of a hit. The Queen wowed everyone as she appeared to sing a duet with Dolly Parton — who changed into a different black gown than the black embellished dress she wore to maker her entrance. The singer wore an amazing Edition by Georges Chakra custom made blue crepe mermaid gown with a striking silver metallic neckline and a sexy slit. The make-up, hair and silver sandals that went with the gown were spot on, too. The perfect, classy choice for the evening — kudos, Your Highness.
Can anything with the word “divas” in it be complete without one Ms. Dolly Parton? We didn’t think so. She sparkled on the star studded VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul carpet wearing a big smile, red nails, a black bedazzled black dress covered in rivets and a pair of knee-high boots. The country music legend was roped in to present an award at the show. Do we wish she had gone vintage Dolly with the glitter and the big hair? Yeah, kinda. But we’re also loving this version of her — still larger than life. but a lot more streamlined.
Shut it down. Shut the Academy Awards down now. Based on the Joyful Noise trailer, we know we don’t want to see Rooney Mara or Kirsten Dunst or whomever crying into their couture when Queen Latifah wins Best Actress in 2012. We also don’t want to see Brad Pitt sobbing into his beard when they turn the Best Actor category into another Best Actress category and give that one to Dolly Parton, because that is the only conceivable outcome we can foresee.
In addition to giving us Parton and Latifah mid-diva-off as competing candidates for director of a church choir, the film, due out on January 13, is seemingly jam-packed full of Oscar bait: Keke Palmer! Spot-on plastic surgery jokes! The fact Dolly Parton’s robe is inexplicably tailored to hug her ridiculous curves! Of course, we’re acting as if we ran the Academy Awards…and if that’s what we have to do to see this movie win Best Picture, well, then that is just what we’ll have to do.
Prince William & Kate Middleton somehow forgot to invite Dolly Parton to their upcoming wedding, but that’s not going to stop the country singer from trying to get on the list. She told the UK show Lorraine that she’d be honored to sing “I Will Always Love You” with Elton John…not that anyone’s suggested she should. “Wouldn’t that be great? Nobody’s asked me about that but I might offer it. [A duet] with Whitney Houston, I would do anything. Elton John could play for me and I could sing the song, he could sing a duet with me. I’m sure he was probably invited, I wasn’t invited.” You and 99.9999% of the people who’d like to be there, Dolly.
Some entertainers aren’t waiting to be asked for their contribution, though. George Michael has tweeted that he’s sending Kate & William an undisclosed ’70s cover as a gift. “We have a mutual friend who i think will make sure it gets to them. That and the toaster….” While he’s only revealed the song’s decade of origin and the first word of the title (“You”), George plans to release the song to the world on Friday. Here’s hoping he skips the T-Pain autotuning he smeared all over his recent New Order cover.
Queen of Country Dolly Parton and her best friend Judy Ogle have apparently been the subject of rumors that the two close buddies are lesbians – who knew?
“We’re absolutely totally honest open and comfortable with each other,” Dolly, who has been married to businessman husband Carl Dean for 43 years, says. “We’ve been accused of being lovers. We do love each other, but we’ve never been like that.”
Dolly, who played Miley Cyrus‘ aunt in the last Hannah Montana movie, will not be reprising her role as Aunt Dolly in the new flick, but still plans to stay in touch with young people.
“In my older years, I’m going into that world of children,” Dolly says. “That’s the way to keep yourself young. Be childlike, not childish.”

Remember when Jessica Simpsonbelly flopped at the Kennedy Center Honors? If Dolly Parton wasn’t such a nice lady, Jessica may have never opened her mouth to sing again. Gasp! The horror!
“You know, what happened at Kennedy Center, I really thought I was done singin’. I was just at a place where I’d lost a lot of confidence and I didn’t even know who I was. But Dolly totally took me under her wing and helped me up and over the cares of the world.
It went from the Kennedy Center to her being a part of this record and getting letters from her of encouragement. She told me she’s never been more proud of anything in her whole life. And I have it written down in her handwriting! I do owe a lot of my confidence to her.”
Nothing makes you prouder, Dolly? Nothing? You know, there’s such a thing as being “too nice.” And telling Jessica Simpson to do anything other than hope for Vanna White‘s job might qualify. [E!]
