There are times that we look at Lady Gaga and she feels like an art installation. Like the time she launched her perfume “Fame” in New York City with a party that involved a “performance art piece” called “Sleeping with Gaga.” And she got a tattoo, live in front of all her guests. But then, right before we’re about to emit a very loud WTF, Gaga always reminds us that she’s in on the joke on herself which makes her so endearing to us. Remember when she threw up on stage in Barcelona? Most of you saw that because Gaga tweeted out a fan’s video of the incident and poked fun at herself while at it. It is with that same sense of affection that we read Mother Monster’s very un-monstrous interview with Stylist. We, especially, honed in on the bit where the singer opened up about her “Body Revolution” and what caused it. That’s because her being criticized for her weight gain made us a little sick and we loved the fact the she stood up for herself against those nasty folks quartering her for the extra poundage.

She brought up the topic by talking about her relationship with her fans first, saying, “I’ve realised I don’t have to do very much anymore but make music, because my fans do it all for me. They carry the message so far. Ever since they saw how much Born This Way could affect people, they wanted to do more and have that sort of space of kindness and compassion.” Of what inspired “Body Revolution”, she adds, “I was acutely aware of some photos on the internet – my mum called me and was like, “Did you gain weight?” – everybody was telling me about it, and I didn’t really care. But when I heard it was on the news, where they talk about wars, the economy crashing and the election – I just thought, ‘This is f— ridiculous.’ I mean, what kind of example is that to a young girl sitting at home? I thought, well I don’t really care if they think I’m fat, because, quite honestly, I did gain about 30 pounds.” See why we love her? It’s complete honesty and no bulls— with Gaga! And is she is bulls—, she’d let you know it. She also let in on someone who inspires her, and can we just say, we could not agree more. “Adele is bigger than me, how come nobody says anything about it? She’s so wonderful and I think her confidence is something I have to match,” she says.  ”She has set the bar very high for a lot of woman. I need to be a confident woman and just say politically active things when I can that are helpful to young people.” Better still, the two should duet!
