When we were freshmen in high school ten years ago, Eminem’s portrayal of struggling rapper Jimmy “B-Rabbit” Smith (A.K.A. himself) in 8 Mile was an inspiration. The monster hit “Lose Yourself” from the soundtrack became our personal pump up jam to run laps during gym class, and gave us the confidence to take that “one shot” and ask Jenna to the prom, try out for the class play, or pass that chem test! Plus it was also notable for changing the way we thought of the phrase “mom’s spaghetti” forever.
However as we got a little older, we realized the one shot ol’ Marshall Matthers was rapping about was much more serious than our day to day high school drama. It was about reconciling hopes and dreams with growing up and responsibility, all against the bleek Detroit backdrop. By no means a quick flick rushed out to capitalize on his skyrocketing fame, Eminem gave an incredible performance, made all the more amazing considering it was his first movie!
But Eminem is by no means the only rapper who tried his hand at acting. In fact, it seemed like every MC has made the jump to films at one time or another. Some totally killed it and became a successful multi-talented crossover artist, while others…made Soul Plane. So in honor of Em’s epic 8 Mile turning 10 years old today, we’ve decided to take a look back at some of our favorite rappers-turned-movie stars over the years. Enjoy!

Sure Kanye West and Kim Kardashian are famous all over the world and have millions of dollars at their disposal. But they still celebrate birthdays in the same cutely embarrassing way that we always do at our local Olive Garden. Kimye put in an appearance last night at the Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation’s Angel Ball, held at the fancy Cipriani restaurant in New York City. Yeezy must have had a quick secret word with the waiter, because soon a chocolate cake was delivered to a surprised Kim and Co. Alright, her birthday was technically on Sunday. But that’s half the fun! We have on average approximately 35 restaurant birthday’s a year.
Guests reportedly sang, and model Bar Refaeli snapped a few pics on her iPhone. It’s just like a night out with our friends! Except less endless pasta bowls and bread-sticks. Celebs really are just like us! But those weren’t the only famous faces to turn up at the Angel Ball. Gerard Butler was there, as was Angela Simmons and super model Irina Shayk.Nelly and Ashanti went together, but the cutest pairing had to be Solange Knowles and her gorgeous mother Tina. “Attack, my chilly ones!!!” We have to say, Katy Perry made for quite an intense snow-person at KIIS FM’s annual Jingle Ball on Sunday. Like her song, the singer was both hot and cold in her Frosty get-up, forgoing the corn cob pipe and a button nose for some killer curves. We don’t know about you, but we think a snowman sergeant would have been a nice costume addition to her spot in VH1 Diva’s Salute The Troops.
Katy was just one of the many stars who performed at the holiday themed concert this year. The stage was jam-packed with some of the hottest hip-hop stars around, including Nelly, b.O.b, Taio Cruz, and so many more. Also joining in for some seasonal cheer was fellow Diva Haley Williams, Selena Gomez, Enrique Iglesias. Check out the gallery below to see who else caught the holiday spirit!

When Diddy promised that “all of the ladies out there are going to be thanking us” after seeing Nelly‘s ad campaign for the mogul’s Sean John underwear line, one assumed the photos would, at the very least, show the “Hot In Herre” rapper in his underwear. But Nelly seems a little gunshy in the released pics, showing off the labelled elastic but leaving his cup safely hidden under baggy jeans. Unless more revealing shots await, Nelly can’t hope to compare with proud pants-dropping predecessors like David Beckham and Marky Mark. You can’t go halfway on something like underwear modeling, Nel! Own it!
