The MTV Video Music Awards are known for having one of the most varied guest lists in showbiz, creating  mind-blowingly random Hollywood juxtapositions. Many unexpected duos are tapped to present awards together, and sometimes folks are feeling friendly and just want a picture with their secret celeb crush.These unexpected pairings sometimes could be the musical collaboration of our dreams, much like Lady Gaga and Cher appearing side by side (with a side of beef) back in 2010. Or they could be the nightmare we wish would end, like the legendary meeting of Kanye West and Taylor Swift in ’09. Who would have thought teen sweetheart Mandy Moore would want to be hugged up with the creepy Marilyn Manson? Justin Bieber, Usher, Gavin DeGraw And A Merry Band Of Dudes Spiff Up The Billboard Awards

While the women may have held their own in the best-dressed department at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards, the men were a class apart. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, you certainly couldn’t ignore them. Case in point, Usher, whose electric cyan suit would’ve looked clownish on anyone else but him. Or LMFAO who strode around in their usual neanderthal style picks. The rest of the men were a lot more sedate in their choices. There was a fedora here and there — on Gavin DeGraw who looked like a ’40s gangster in his suit. Or Wiz Khalifa who paired his with a waistcoat, low-rise jeans and Amber Rose.

We spotted a bow-tie on Modern Family‘s Ty Burell, over a plaid shirt. Also wearing checks was Eric Benet, who picked the pattern for his suit. Justin Bieber kept it contemporary and youthful with a pair of cool kicks. Also contemporary, but in a completely different direction was the very fashionable Robin Thicke. All in all, we approve of how the men made sure the carpet was sartorially diverse. Your Mega Peek Into The 2012 Vanity Fair Oscar Party

We all know that the Vanity Fair Oscar Party is almost as big as the Oscar ceremony itself. And just as brights were a major Oscars 2012 trend, it was the same as the party. Rosie Huntington-Whitely wore a juicy, tangerine Antonio Berardi dress while Cameron Diaz went more orange with a Victoria Beckham number. Kate Upton, a pregnant Molly Sims, Salma Hayek, Abbie Cornish and Diane Kruger all wore shades of crimson.

It’s just a straight-up roll call of celebrities here: Elizabeth Olsen in black Christian Dior, Sofia Vergara in a white Robert Cavalli column, Brooklyn Decker in nude, beaded Valentino and Selena Gomez in Dolce & Gabbana. See what we mean? We’re not too sure about  Zoe Saldana in her black, sheer Marios Schwab or January Jones in her Wes Gordon green-and-burgundy confused dress. Or Elizabeth Banks and her green-and-blue feathered Chadwick Bell dress.  Jennifer Lopez wore the same designer as her Oscars dress, but this plunging, sparkling, plum version was even sexier.

Robin Thicke Busted For Pot Possession

In case you were wondering whether singer Robin Thicke‘s buttery smoothness was natural or herbally-enhanced…well, this doesn’t really clarify anything, does it? It does, however, shed light on what he does to relax, seeing as how cops busted the singer as he sparked up in a Cadillac Escalade on East 21st Street in Manhattan this afternoon. We can’t say we took Thicke for a huge ganja fan, though we guess that does explain why he went on that diatribe about Paul Patton’s orgasms in Essence back in December. That was not the rational decision of a lucid mind!

Robin joins a recent grab bag of celebs who’ve been arrested for marijuana possession since the new year, including Snoop Dogg and Mirror, Mirror star Armie Hammer. According to TMZ, Thicke was allegedly polite, even signing a few autographs during his arrest. Thankfully the singer was soon released. The man cannot live without his silk pajamas and cognac, and we are 99% those are contraband in prison.

Which 2011 Trends Will We Regret In 2012?

Happy New Year, Fablifers! As we wrap up our Best of 2011 lists, we wondered what our future selves will think about the past year’s big trends. In fashion, there were a whole lot of animal prints, mismatched ’90s-reminiscent patterns, super-high heels, super-low-cut gowns, see-through gowns, missing pants, giant fur vests and a whole lot of geriatric-looking outfits. All sorts of ladies died their hair pink or applied Steven Tyler-ish feathers to their locks. Men continued to wear mustaches and beards. On the Internet, TMI Twitpics went to a whole new level (thanks, Anthony Weiner). On TV and in movies, nostalgia reigned, while in books, it was all about fear for the future.

We asked some prominent tastemakers which 2011 trends they think we’ll regret someday soon and got a surprisingly diverse response.

Eric Northman, Bella Swan, Count Chocula Top Celebs’ 2011 Vampire Picks


Since we listed our 25 favorite vampires of 2011 last week and asked you to vote for your own, the polls have been HOT. Edward and Damon are neck and neck, but Bones is coming up from behind, as book fans seem to have caught onto the race. It’s exciting to watch on our end (Vampire Academy fans from Russia are a force to be reckoned with!), so we decided to leave polls open until 11 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. In the meantime, let’s look back at who this unusual collection of celebrities would name Vampire of the Year for 2011.

“Anyone from True Blood. They’re all brilliant and fabulous,” Heather Matarazzo told us. And her sentiments were echoed by True Blood werewolf Joe Manganiello: “It would probably be a tie between Stephen Moyer and Alex Skarsgard. I really can’t pick one or the other.”

Alexander Skarsgard’s dad obviously is a big Eric Northman fan as well. “It’s my vampire genes!” Stellan Skarsgard told us.

“Bella Swan!” Elizabeth Reaser said, choosing her on-screen daughter-in-law over her own adoptive “children.”

David Cook went old school, ignoring the “of 2011″ part of the title and choosing Brad Pitt’s Louis de Ponte du Lac from Interview With a Vampire.

Then there were the even less-obvious choices. Questlove nominated Count Chocula. “Hands down, he’s been vampire of the year for me for the last couple of decades.”

Stars Nominate Charlize Theron, J.Lo, Tilda Swinton For Best-Dressed Of 2011


Are you having trouble deciding who among our list of 30 lovely ladies was the best-dressed celebrity of 2011? You’re not alone. We posed that question to a number of other famous folks on red carpets and in the VH1 offices, and many were stumped. But when they did finally answer, they gave us a few names that didn’t make our original list — and now we realize it easily could have been a top 50. Watch on:

“I always think Charlize looks amazing,” Aisha Tyler told us.

Questlove put his choice in context: “The best-dressed celeb of 2011 was J.Lo, considering the tragedy she went through this year. I feel like she’s put on a brave face and she came out smelling like a rose.”

There was a bit of nepotism at play too: “My wife, Paula Patton,” Robin Thicke declared, and Bill Hader nominated his SNL co-star Kristen Wiig.

The 30 Cutest Couples Of 2011 *That Aren’t Robsten

We’re gonna level with you, dear readers. Here at the FABLife, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson will get our vote for the cutest couple every year until the end of time. That’s just the way it goes! So, to make it fair for all of the other adorable love birds out there, we’ve taken them out of the competition. But we’ve made Robsten the gold standard by which we measure and rank the rest of the sweethearts! So please Twihards, don’t send us angry letters.

Sure, 2011 was largely seen as the Year of the Breakup. That doesn’t mean love didn’t flourish! We’ve asked stars who they think should earn the title of “Cutest Couple 2k11,” and their answers ranged from the predicable, to the, err … not so predictable. Tehmina Sunny and Amadou Ly both share our Robsten 4Lyfe sentiments, whereas David Cook and Chelsea Rendon were more Selena Gomez/Justin Bieber people.  Roots drummer Questlove was pumped that puppet pals Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy got back together in the Muppets reboot, while Robin Thicke felt that Charlie Sheen and his nose candy made the perfect duo. AMAs Most Questionable Fashions: We Can’t Make Up Our Minds!

Of all the fashions we spotted on the red carpet and onstage at last night’s AMAs, there were some that were clearly awesome and others that hurt our delicate eyes. But then there was the middle ground. The outfits that confuse our sense of right and wrong. Daring, but maybe too much. Awful, but maybe in an interesting way. Gorgeous if only they fit better.

Maybe you can help us out: Were Justin Bieber‘s tiger-striped pants hideous or hilarious? Should we admire J.Lo‘s nude bodysuit on the grounds that it showed off her assets? It’s A Boy! Robin Thicke And Paula Patton Name Baby “Julian Fuego”

Robin Thicke isn’t just a mack daddy anymore. The Sex Therapy singer and wife actress Paula Patton are celebrating the birth of their first son, with Alicia Keys alerting her audience in LA yesterday that opening act Thicke was away on “daddy duty.” “Mother, Father and son are all doing well,” said their rep. And what’s the little boy’s name, you ask? Julian Fuego Thicke. Yes, Alan Thicke‘s grandson has the middle name “Fuego.” Was “Adrian Caliente” already taken? “Dominic Steam”? “Lucius Von Sexmobile”? Here’s hoping young Julian Fuego is the first of many.
