SPICE UP YOUR LIFE! Sorry, guys. We really did get excited seeing the Spice Girls reunited while performing at the amazing spectacle that was the Olympics Closing Ceremony yesterday (or this morning, depends on what part of the world you’re in.) Especially went whizzing around in those cool, lit-up minis! And they weren’t the only ones we squeed at. The whole playlist of sorts had moments we were giddy about. How about Take That? We used to swoon over them back in the day, and seeing them together brought back all those memories. We only wish that Robbie Williams had joined them, but we’ll take what we can get. We got One Direction for the swooning-in-this-day-and-age, so we’re all good! George Michael busting out moves was awesome — did you sing Freedom out aloud too? And how about them supermodels, huh? All in glittering gold gowns. Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Stella Tennant, Karen Elson and the rest of the finest of the Brit fashion crop did make a huge impression.
We have to say that Fatboy Slim busting out Rockerfella Skank was a massive moment for us too. Acid house at the Olympics? Yes, please! And while we’re at it — what did you think of Russell Brand‘s performance? We love him, so we were more than happy to see him up there. More than anything, his inclusion showed just how much thought the organizers put into this ceremony. They tried to be together everything quintessentially British — fashion, comedians, music, dancing — and we think they totally succeeded. Look through our gallery to have a look at who else we were excited to see, and let us know if you agree!

Is there anything in the world more beautiful than a boy band? The gel-heavy hairdos. The choreographed moves. The matching outfits (so often suits, so often made of leather). The cuddly, goofy photo ops. Being in a boy band isn’t just a job, it’s an art form. As someone who once cried in the middle of 40,000 screaming girls when Donnie Wahlberg sang “Cover Girl,” seeing them perform live can be a life-changing experience. (NKOTB 4ever.)
Our friends over at MTV are honoring this special species of man music with their Battle of the Boy Bands, and the final round of voting begins today. In honor of the competition we’ve selected the best photos of the best boy bands of the past 20 years for you to swoon/LOL/and get nostalgic over. Be sure to view the pics while listening to our boy band playlist, featuring some of our favorite boy band jams.
OK, so Prince William and Kate Middleton’s idea of date night may differ ever so slightly from ours. Because for the royals, popping out for a fun night à deux not only involves having Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles around, but their choice of venue most likely involves a red carpet. Like last night, when the couple attended a special charity concert at the Royal Albert Hall, which featured a performance by Gary Barlow of Take That. And as usual, the couple looked terrific. While the Duke looked spiffy in a suit, the Duchess looked like a million
dollars pounds in a Zara dress and Ralph Lauren jacket. We would spend days on a treadmill if the Angel of Good Legs promised to give us pins like hers. And don’t even get us started on her hair. A mane that shiny should be illegal. Lord, we love these two!

Robbie Williams is getting married today, shattering our teenage dreams. We’re currently going through a memory montage of past hormonal upsurges of him writhing on stage along with the other four members of Take That. Sigh.
We’ll also admit how remiss we’ve been because quite frankly, we didn’t even know he was dating anybody (they’ve been together for FOUR years)? Probably because he was supposed to date this very heartbroken blogger. But it’s true, he’s getting hitched today to an actress called Ayda Field on the Santa Calina island off the coast of California. None of the other members of Take That are coming because the couple only broke the news last week, leaving it too late for them to cancel the family vacations they’d planned.
This is not a hoax either. The singer has already proposed once on a live Aussie radio show, but later said he was just messing around. Considering the island is prepped and ready for the nuptials today, all systems are go. Here’s what Robbie thinks of his bride. In one of the strangest (and cutest) quotes we’ve ever heard, he commented, “I call her my Swiss Army knife because that’s the way I feel about her – she can do anything.”

As everyone in the whole world cannot have failed to notice, Britney Spears has an album out! And it’s called Circus! Yes, we’re observant, thank you. But what you in the U.S. may not know is that British band Take That also have an album out this week — and spookily, it’s called The Circus. (For those uninitiated, Take That were a boy band of the early 1990s who had massive success until founder member Robbie Williams discovered drugs and erratic behavior and left the band. He became a huge solo star but is now better known for spotting UFOs from his home in L.A., whereas TT reformed a couple of years ago and the British people clasped them to our collective bosom once more).
Anyhow, some may have naturally assumed that worldwide icon Britney would still soar to number one with her highly-anticipated comeback album. But it’s not looking likely. Especially when news came out that Take That are outselling her at a massive 14-to-1.
Yep, you can wear all the skimpy ringmaster outfits you like Brit, but there’s no competing with our former teenage crushes over here. Sorry. [Photos: AFP, FilmMagic]
