Rumors of a split with Alex Rodriguez didn’t keep Kate Hudson from going out in public yesterday. The Nine star rushed in and out of her hotel—in an impressive variety of ensembles—to attend a screening of the Critics’ Choice Movie Award-nominated film, appear on It’s On With Alexa Chung and go to dinner with mom Goldie Hawn and common-law stepdad Kurt Russell. According to the New York Daily News, A-Rod has been keeping busy too…with another woman in Miami.
“She and Alex were introduced at [a dinner for Armani Saturday], but it looked like they got pretty friendly pretty fast,” says their source. “They definitely left the dinner separately, but showed up at [the nightclub] LIV together a few hours later.” As Madonna knows all too well, A-Rod is not one to sit around and mope if things are going less than swimmingly in a relationship. Will she return to the Yankee bleachers or were they just sex-crazed ships passing in the night?

Fergie found a way to rock a high-necked dress with shoulder pads and show cleavage at the LA premiere of Nine, where she stood alongside co-stars Penelope Cruz and Nicole Kidman on the red carpet (Kate Hudson was off in New York, natch). Joining the BEP singer were bandmate Taboo and husband Josh Duhamel, making his first public appearance with the missus since those pesky cheating rumors broke. “It’s been a lovely year, but I’m missing [Josh] now as I’m on tour,” said Fergie, who also stoked a baby rumor by not responding “hell no!” when asked if she wants one. “It’s a month since we saw each other, but we talk every day. It helps that Josh is in showbiz, too.” It’s good she can find the silver lining in that.
Nine is a likely nominee for this January’s Critics’ Choice Movie Awards. Check out photos from last night’s premiere in the gallery below.
Award season is heating up in Hollywood, with Up In The Air already taking Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress from the National Board Of Review. Here are ten films films we expect to hear come up a lot this winter, as more cinema societies name their top movies of the 2009. Don’t forget—we’ve still got the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, the Golden Globes and the Oscars to look forward to on TV. [Photo: Paramount Pictures]
Movies directed by Jim Sheridan—that don’t star 50 Cent—have a tendency to snag award nominations for their actors. And Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman could each win their first major trophy for appearing in his Iraq war love triangle film. (Related: Natalie Portman Goes Blue For Brothers)
Though there are plenty of fussy European period pieces looking for award show love this year (Bright Star, The Last Station, The Young Victoria), one of the most promising is only (only!) set about forty plus years ago. Star Carey Mulligan has already won a Hollywood Award for her portrayal of a schoolgirl swept away by an older man of questionable ethics.
The cast of Nine were one motley crew at the film’s London premiere Thursday night. Penelope Cruz and Kate Hudson took the opportunity to wear glamorous gowns with heavy, expensive coats (much to the delight of attendee Alex Rodriguez), while Nicole Kidman went with a light jacket and miniskirt. The men’s outfits didn’t mesh either, with director Rob Marshall‘s business suit clashing with Daniel Day-Lewis‘ flamboyant ballroom dancing uniform, complete with velvet jacket and high-waisted, red-striped pants (much to the delight of attendee Bruno Tonioli). Surrounded by this incoherence, Judi Dench‘s elegant yellow gown—suitable in all scenarios—won the night by default.
