Supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio was just walking around Malibu yesterday with her pooch, minding her own business. She totally didn’t realise that she was going to become the subject of a new PETA diatribe. The animal’s rights organization took umbrage to the fact that her dog’s coat was dyed pink and purple. Not because it’s offensive in terms of style — though, Alessandra, a pink and purple dog may be a tad much. They’re all het up about the effects of the color. A statement by PETA reads, “What most people don’t know is that dyeing a companion animal’s fur can cause the animal stress and can lead to complications or allergic reactions that endanger the animal’s health. Our dogs and cats love us regardless of how we look; why not extend the same kindness to them?”

While we agree with what they’re saying, we feel that they should have taken time to figure out whether the dye was chemical or vegetable based. Emma Watson was recently put through the ringer because she was spotted with, what people thought was her dog, whose coat had been dyed pink. The real story was that the dog wasn’t Emma’s, it was a friend’s. Darcy the dog’s coat had been dyed pink to raise money for breast cancer awareness. And most importantly, the dye was vegetable-based and very dog friendly. So, perhaps checking with Alessandra first, instead of going straight for a press release would have been the more logical thing to do. While we really respect what PETA does, bullying people isn’t the right way to achieve their ends.
