The stars hit the red carpet last night for the BET Awards and let’s just say that some of them didn’t dress to impress. Whether they were wearing garish and outlandish outfits or ugly and ill-fitting dresses, these 10 celebrities weren’t showing anyone up when they showed up last night.
Years ago Beyonce‘s claim to fame was being 1/3 of the group Destiny’s Child whose song titles repeated the same word three times– “No, No, No and “Bills, Bills, Bills.” Bey put on her solo artist wings and flew, but not before Destiny’s Child became one of the highest selling girl groups of all time. Actress Angela Bassett remembers being in awe of Beyonce at a VH1 Divas live show way back before Destiny’s child would become Destiny’s superstar icon. Read more…
Celebrities always scrub up and put their Sunday best on for this one, don’t they? The National Board Of Review Awards Gala is always the first big awards red carpet of the year and seems to be for the “serious” movies and actors. Therefore, the fashion follows suit. Nothing too frippery here. Emily Blunt got it perfectly right with her nude-blush Emilio Pucci dress with tiny little cut-outs, bronze Stuart Weitzman shoes and minimal and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. Amanda Seyfried wore a panelled onion and metallic Bottega Veneta dress, nipped in at the waist, with lace-up Alexandre Birman heels and pretty Norman Silverman earrings. Anne Hathaway‘s black luxe, androgynous tapered Hedi Slimane tuxedo was also right on the money and amazingly chic paired with her cropped hair.
Thank you, Bradley Cooper for wearing such an elegant Gucci suit, but damn, you need a haircut. Jessica Chastain, who has been doing rather well sartorially lately, picked a black Alexander McQueen dress with a floral metallic collar, bronze Charlotte Olympia shoes and a matching Aurelie Bidermann cuff. And then there was Ben Affleck, who sorely needed a shave, but who worked it out in a black tailored suit. Read more…
The 2012 BET Awards happened last night at the Shrine Auditorium in L.A, and as always, we’re here to give you the red carpet report. The fashion represented is a bit puzzling. Most of the ladies almost got it right. They were so close! Like Tatyana Ali, for instance. Her yellow-and-black ensemble would have been terrific on her, had it not been for that aggressive, vinyl-looking peplum. Or Taraji P. Henson, whose aqua colored dress was lovely, but the sparkly neckline made it look like she had fish scales. It’s hard to make Selita Ebanks look bad — her Falguni & Peacock dress was a knockout, but the sheer skirt made it look like her underpants were on display. Same with Kerry Washington. She always looks so elegant, but her nude, strapless Altuzzara top made us feel like she had forgotten to put something on, on top of her basque, and just ended up going out in her J. Mendel skirt. The bustier looks underwired within an inch of its life.
We also are ho-hum about Michelle Williams — of ex-Destiny’s Child fame. Nice lace dress, but reminiscent of a nightgown, much? Not fans of jumpsuits, either, and La La Vasquez‘s version didn’t fill us with joy. And why did LaurieAnn Gibson look like she had a onesie on? You catch our drift, right? This entire red carpet had some good picks, but each was undermined by some crazy detailing. Does that make it crazy good, or just plain crazy? You decide. Have a look at our gallery that has more looks including Willow Smith‘s, Chaka Khan‘s and Regina King‘s.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds new film, Green Lantern, is poised to hit theatres tomorrow. In preparation, the big premiere happened at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in L.A yesterday, and most of its cast turned up to celebrate. Blake looked lovely in her white Chanel couture gown, which only someone as leggy as her could pull off. She also brought her family with her including mom Elaine, and sisters Lori and Robyn.
Ryan was not, in any way, overshadowed by his co-star? That light grey suit’s totally working on him! Tim Robbins and Peter Sarsgaard rounded up the main male cast. As for the ladies — and we didn’t know this — Angela Bassett‘s in the film too. Angela, as in Stella who ‘Got Her Groove Back’ in the ”90′s! In it to just watch the film were celebrities like Jason Bateman, Zachary Levi and Karina Smirnoff, who you can all see in the our gallery. Let’s see if this is going to be the summer hit that everyone predicted it to be!
